  • Hey guys, This is the video from my very first time on the bike with the suspension done completely both front and back. I had the front with the Cogent .58 springs and DDC's for about two months now, and that was an amazing improvement for the front. But, NOW, with this Mojave Pro rear shock on, OH MER GHERD! IT'S FERKING EHRSERHM!!!!!! I was having so much fun during this video, i was bummed that i had so little time to ride today. I took my truck with bike and gear to work today, and blasted out to Carnegie straight after work, to get a few minutes of riding in at least. I'm so glad that i did, cause i'm soo happy with how the bike feels now. I was carrying 3rd gear in stuff that i'd go in 2nd before, and during the video, you cannot even see the giant whoops because I'M FUGGING FLOATING OVER THEM IN THIRD GEAR LIKE A FUGGING FEATHER!!!!! Gawd!! Can't say enough. Good stuff them Cogents!! If you are on the fence, jump on over and land on the side of getting this suspension for your DR650, and you can thank me later. Just saying. Oh, sorry for the mud spot on the lens. I didn't realize it was there until i was done riding and loading up to leave. :-( Next time, i'll ride longer, and take on some even more gnarlier shit out there! Can't wait!!!
    BIG thanks to the guys over at Cogent www.motocd.com/ for a great suspension setup for the wild boar DR650.
    www.motocd.com/product/mojave-...
    Todd, the customer service rep over there is a great friend now, and an all around fun guy to talk bikes, cars, and anything else with, and will get you onto the right setup for your riding style. And he did not push me into the Mojave Pro shock either. That was all me wanting the bees knees of shocks for the DR. Glad i did because that Mojave Pro is ridiculously awesome! Ken, over there got that shock dialed in something fierce for me. Good job Ken. Thanks Rick for your great crew over there.
    I still have the Cogent adjustable pre-load caps to install and tune the front fork, so i'll have content coming soon with that.

    Full disclosure... I'm one of the team members @ Cogent. I love this video! I grinned and chuckled the whole time while watching. Anyone that flogs a DR that fast through that kind of terrain has my respect. It's exhilarating to watch and listen to your reaction and anytime we can assist in the unleashing of a string of expletives like that means a job well done for us. We're so happy you're enjoying our suspension, your bike and your ride so much. Thank you for the kind words. Todd@Cogent

      +Cogent Ologist don't know how i'm just now seeing your comment from 2 months ago? I usually reply right away. Jeeze! i'm slippin! :-) Thanks so much Todd! That really means a lot to me to get props from Cogent itself. yeah, i do normally cuss from time to time, but not THAT much. lol. i just couldn't believe how amazingly stable the bike was over such rough terrain!!! This video doesn't even truly show how rough the terrain really was or how really steep it was. and the big whoops on the trails went mostly unnoticed because the bike was floating over them like they weren't even there, making them imperceptible on the video almost! F#@*ing amazing! I recommend Cogent to everyone with a DR650 or any other make/model bike that Cogent makes suspension for, HANDS DOWN! until you ride a DR650 that has Cogent suspension, you will never truly know how awesome your bike can be... (If i ever win the super lotto and get the BIG one of hundreds of millions, i'm going to buy Cogent suspension for everyone that rides a DR650.) hahaha cheesy, i know, but i'd do it. you know, a kinda "love thy neighbor (fellow DR rider) as thyself", kinda thing. ha!

      +65elcamino283 does the suspension upgrade and added stability as a result make the bike feel lighter?

    • @65elcamino283
      @65elcamino283  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Paul Dykstra it makes the bike much much more capable and stable riding over extremely rough terrain. On my very first ride even (this vid) i was riding instantly in an extra gear over terrain that before i would have had to ride slower and in a lower gear because at that high of a speed the terrain would just cause me and the bike to bounce out of control and result in a crash/down. Instead i was brapping it hard and floating over that rough terrain like the mx guys do over the whoops on mx tracks where they skip off the tops of the whoops like they aren't even there. And i was now doing that with ease and not even trying hard on a 360pound DR650! :-) yeah, i am super stoked with my bike now. in this video, you can't even really tell how rough some spots of the trail really is because i was riding over it at high speed and smoothly skipping over the tops of it all! there were sections that i'm riding that look on video like a smooth fire road (in reality were 2-3 foot uneven hard faced whoops) because the bike was riding over it so smoothly. yeah. excited cuss words ensue...
      This video is literally my very first ride on the new suspension, and i was soo extremely impressed and excited for how awesome it was performing, that all i could do was spew excited cuss words (sorry about that). I was also elated in this video thinking about my future rides to come where i will get into even gnarlier terrain and ride it even harder and faster than ever before because i knew it all would only get better and better the more i ride from here on out.
      feel lighter?
      well, no and yes. at a sitstill, no, the bike is still 360 pounds. :-)
      but also yes, in the sense that in gnarly terrain you can ride through at a higher speed and with more ease on your part as a rider, making the bike less of a chore to manhandle as it is being forced to be going slower and using all you've got (wrestling the steering, shifting body weight, kicking legs out to keep the bike balanced etc) instead, all you have to do is give it throttle and ride through/over it with much more ease and control, so, yes; "feel lighter" it does. :-)
      Sorry for the long winded reply, but I just hope that everyone gets to enjoy their bikes as much as i enjoy mine

      +65elcamino283 Thank you for the thorough reply. Does it seem more "awake" on the road? I'm 230 pounds. My suspension absorbs everything from flat to moderately bumpy roads, to include fun it won't even really jump a speed bump...

      +Paul Dykstra most definitely. i just converted my DR back over to street supermoto setup with my warp9 17" wheels and Conti Attack SM street tires last week. I had this same setup last year before going dirt, but that was without the Cogent suspension. This thing now rails through the corners without wallowing in the corner and without the front end diving when hard on the brakes (which used to cause the rear to rise up and lighten to the point that the rear wheel would lose traction when braking too hard).
      check it out, from just last week:
      th-cam.com/video/MTjvRDEw-4c/w-d-xo.html
      and part 2 of that same ride:
      th-cam.com/video/fHe1wLUhM1s/w-d-xo.html
      I was pretty rusty on this ride too, as this was just my first ride back on the street after almost a year of having my DR in pure dirt setup and not riding it on the street at all, but trucking my DR out to my offroad park every time.
      if you go with this suspension, when you order, they will take your info, full geared up weight, riding style etc, and build your suspension accordingly for you. You will be amazed at how good they are at this.
      i have speed bumps in the parking lot at my work, and i now use them as launch points for bunny hops! :-)
      by the way, i do NOT work for Cogent. I'm just a super satisfied customer that will recommend them to everyone with a DR (or any other bike they make suspension for)

      +Rock Worm Thanks! It felt utterly confidence inspiring for sure. I felt such improved stability and control in the stuff that would usually upset the bike and get me bouncing all over the trail. I'd love to be able to ride at race-pace out there some day and really use the bike

      seriously dude. you'd nut yurself if you rode my bike. its up to full on pro enduro bike suspension performance. if i had one piece of advice to give to someone just buying a DR650 and intending to ride it offroad in any serious way, i'd say make Cogent suspension your first major mod to the bike. worth every cent. i wish i would have done it sooner. you ride enough offroad that you'd feel the same way once you get this shit on your bike. that bit at 6:30 is even gnarlier in real life than it looks on camera too. check out 8:05 though too. that is some fun shit on the DR, and i'm not saying "fun" sarcastically either. :-)

    Damn I hate the arm pump too, I don't know why it's so hard to grip my drz with my legs. I need to try adjust my handlebars some more and maybe switch to my wider footpegs. Whenever I do crazy trails on my mountain bike, I never get arm pump. Somehow I can balance and stand all day on the bike yet I have to grip so much with my arms on the dirtbike. I think I am gonna try and install some pegs to lock my boots into, i've heard it can help you grip the bike with your legs.
    Those downhills are intense, yet they feel a lot more natural to me than any other kind of terrain. I guess I can blame that one on mountain biking as well. Climbing up the hills is always slow and tiring on the mtb but it's that crazy rush from the downhill that makes it worth the effort.
    Glad you are enjoying the new suspension! I finally got around to fixing my sag/preload and the clickers. Such a huge improvement compared to the old soft settings I had been running. You were hitting those whoops with no problems haha and on a heavy bike too. I bet the suspension was the best mod you did to that bike overall. Sure wish I had one of those FCR carbs as well (do you have one?)

    • @65elcamino283
      @65elcamino283  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +redlinerider454 You should look into making something like Steg Pegz for your drz. Barry over on the endurocross enduro training and adventure oz channel made something up for his DR and he said he's going to post a template online to duplicate. Check this out: th-cam.com/video/yE-3c0t6-RM/w-d-xo.html
      Right at the 4:42 mark is where the homemade steg pegs are mentioned. I'm definitely going to be doing something like that for my DR.
      yeah, i wish i would have done my suspension at the beginning. Such a drastic improvement! There were sections of whoops that weren't even noticeable on the video because the bike just floated over them with ease. Fuggin awesome!!!
      I just did the dynojet carb tune and opened up the airbox. Probably gonna do the pumper on down the road when i do the big boar stuff to it once it's back to being a supermoto (re: after i get a green sticker smoker 250) :-)

      +Spartan ADV damn nice indeed! I know we've all heard the cliche of "it transformed the bike", but it's true. Gawd i love that bike now!

    • @spartan8390
      @spartan8390 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +65elcamino283 A rough idea. I'm heading west to Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, then north to Oregon, and Washington. From there I haven't planned the return route. It's basically a trip to meet and ride with other motovloggers on their home turf. As far as where I'm staying along the way, no idea until the funds go through. I have a lot to work out but I can have it planned with a couple weeks after things fall into place. I've ridden in rain so weather won't be a big issue. Ideally, I'm aiming for stepping off the last week of June and running into the first couple weeks in July. Quite a bit more gear to get and a rebuild will come before I go. As for those two things, I know exactly what I'm buying. I'm pretty excited to see California for the first time.

      @65elcamino283  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Smightification thanks dude! yeah, the dr650 has pretty crappy stock suspension to where you can only go so fast over rough terrain before you will literally lose control of the bike (or i should say that the bike will lose control of itself and basically throw you and itself off the trail.) hahaha, been there and done that many times. lol haven't gone down riding offroad since i put the Cogent stuff on though (knock on wood) and i've been riding that damned 650 harder and faster than ever before now with how stable it is thanks to the Cogent suspension. Can't say enough about it. If you'd like to really REALLY enjoy the shit out of blasting offroad on your DR, get setup with Cogent. I guarantee it (insert pic of Men's Warehouse dude)

    • @65elcamino283

      they are the fly racing fat bars i bought from procycle. they do make the bike a lot less "grandpa-ish" looking! haha. plus they are way stronger than the stock ones. i bent the shit out of the stock ones within minutes of riding offroad. lol. but that was mostly cause i sucked and fell a lot. the front cogent springs i got in a kit from procycle that came with the DDC's (dynamic damper cartridges) and the springs and fork oil for $289. thats the best way to go. get the springs and ddc's at the same time. big improvement for the front fork.

    I've been in the market for a dual sport, preferably the DR650, but at 205 lbs I may go with the XR650L because of the better suspension. From what I've gathered, the DR is the torquiest of the 650 class. I just can't stand the 2015-16 colors and graphics. The XR is also much more visually appealing to me. What state is this?

    • @65elcamino283
      @65elcamino283  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +John Martin Yeah, that XR has way better suspension than the DR for sure. AND you can tune the suspension even more with aftermarket valving (check out racetech gold valves) The XR is 346 pounds wet, so its 20 pounds lighter than the DR, at 366 pounds, but the XR starts out with way better suspension. Both are big heavy bikes for sure in the rough offroad, but can be ridden hard like a dirtbike. Oh, yeah, California. :-)

    • @65elcamino283
      @65elcamino283  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, i hear that! baaaaaaaadddddd. never sat on a spongier pogo-stick of a bike than a stock dr650. i bought the front ddc's and front springs from procycle, but after that when i did the rear shock i bought direct from Cogent. that rear shock is pricey, but worth every penny. if you ride offroad often on your dr, the cogent upgrade is a MUST. it will turn your bike into an all out offroad beast. best mod done to the bike, by far. www.motocd.com/

  • @SavageThrash
    @SavageThrash 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You may have just convinced an 8 year rider of stock DR suspension to upgrade... SO many suspension options these days!

    • @65elcamino283
      @65elcamino283  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's worth every penny, and you will lament that you had not done it sooner. cogent has it dialed in for the DR650. the owner of the company rides a DR650, and i think he may have had a bit to do with how much r&d they spent on the dr suspenders even though they do make suspension for other bikes too. your bike will be a whole nother beast with their stuff on it. i had no idea how dramatic the difference would really be. i was blown away by how awesome it was, hence all the expletives in this video. it was literally my very first ride with the new suspension and i couldn't contain myself. glad this vid helped you decide to upgrade. it would have been my very first upgrade had i known how awesome it would be. cheers!

    • @SavageThrash
      @SavageThrash 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it worth the extra 340 bucks for the pro to get adjustable compression dampening? Having a hard time mentally considering I've ridden with such garbage suspension for years.

    • @65elcamino283
      @65elcamino283  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i guess it comes down to how hard you want to ride the bike. if you want to be able to ride really gnarly terrain hard and fast, then plunk down the extra for the pro. i figured, i'm doing this once, i might as well do it right and have no regrets. i'm glad i did, because being able to adjust it did come in handy since they got it super close with their setup, but i was able to dial it in just right, and then re-adjust for different ride days/conditions. it's worth it unless you are literally making your kids starve in order to buy the shock. but don't worry about getting the remote hydraulic pre-load adjuster. it's something convenient, yes, but necessary, no. you can adjust it still, but just not on the fly while riding

    • @SavageThrash
      @SavageThrash 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah no reason for the hydraulic pre-load adjuster. Just don't want to drop 700 on a shock and still end up missing out on something ya know. Probably won't make a huge difference for me, I've survived offroad with this suspension till now, can only get better from here!

    • @65elcamino283
      @65elcamino283  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the main diff between the mojave and the mojave pro is the external reservoir with it's adjustability is on the pro. i can't speak for the non-pro, since i have the pro. you may be just fine with the non-pro. shit, i may be fine with the non pro, but i did tune the shock with more dampening, so it was very nice to add more in when i needed it. either way, it will be a huge improvement

      nice! I cannot stress more just how much for the better the cogent Mojave Pro rear shock and cogent Springs and their DDC's up front will transform your bike into a beast off road and an awesome corner carver on road. by far the best mod that I've done to my bike by far. Did I mention by far? lol

    • @65elcamino283
      @65elcamino283  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +evo moto well then you will be extremely pleased with it. I guarantee it. and it will actually make riding the bike easier off-road. much much easier. rough terrain will not upset the bike like it does to the stock suspension. ("upset the bike" meaning "throw you and the bike off the trail"). I'll recommend cogent suspension to every Dr Rider out there just because it turns that bike into a monster off road

    F$*@$(#; this video is going to cost me over a grand 🤣. Can you tell me if you have any carb, air box and exhaust mods?

      It's worth it. I did the procycle carb jet kit, two brothers exhaust. I ported the inner flange on the header pipe, opened the side cover of the airbox, k&n filter. Every little bit adds up
