I used to live in Sarpy county N.E. and i had one right behing my house and it was creepy when they used them. Its also absolutely terrifying cause the way it pauses after almost every word it says.
DJ, the cities always do tests on the siren to make sure the remote system works, sirens themselves work, if not they fix them. So in a sense they protect your ass. It's like starting your engines for the spring, you are testing them to see if the winter season has done anything to them. I know someone who is an expert on sirens.
Most towns test them in the winter too as weather emergencies like blizzards can happen as well as other emergencies like chemical spills, etc as sirens are needed year round

I had my headphones on and the volume all the way up, this must be what it's like without hearing protection. I hope the pain in my left ear is just pressure pain from not having over ear headphones anymore.
I use good headphones when I watch siren videos at full volume…it is NOTHING like hearing them up close and I heard 2910s before. They’re louder than you’d think, but aren’t painful. Watching a video of a Thunderbolt or P-50 at full volume with my headphones isn’t ANYWHERE as loud as those things are in real life. A Thunderbolt makes me cover my ears whenever it faces me as it is so loud, same with the P-50. If that was as loud with my headphones at full volume, I would definitely not be watching the videos at full volume lol. Also note, headphones at full volume are only gonna get about as loud as 102-104dB which is as loud as a Modulator 1004 or Model 2 at 100 feet
