I practically get PTSD when I hear this. We lived in ND for six years when my husband was a missile officer-4 years in Minot and 2 years in Grand Forks. Those base sirens would go off if a tornado was within a couple miles of the base, day or night. I can’t tell you how many times we heard those things at 2am and had to jump up from a dead sleep to grab the kids and cats and run to the basement. What crazy memories those are!

The sound at that proximity wouldn’t just blast your eardrums out, if it can be heard across town then it could potentially cause serious internal injuries as the sound reverberates through you.

For me it just means that fire engines are gonna be racing out of the station because they sound it as a call out siren that whenever theres a vechile accident or structure fire it warns traffic that emergency vechiles will be out soon an it alerts fire fighters to get to the station

there is a siren somewhat like this in my town. It plays 1 tone for severe weather and 2 tones to call the volunteer firefighters to work. Since it calls the firefighters to work pretty often, I've never really been scared of it. I have always found it interesting how so much noise comes from one small siren.
