    Fantastic video, right amount of detail and clear view. Also mentioned the size of tools needed. I hope it goes this well for me!

    You missed one of the most important steps. Completely slipped over compressing the calipers to allow fitment back on the car.

    On top of this you should post a video video showing what to do if the Pistons get pushed in and won’t retract you have to remove the electronic device from the caliber to retract it manually if electronically it gets stuck very easy to do as long as you have two retainer screws holding the electronic device on remove them and turn counterclockwise when finish put back on add your breaks and you’re gone

    I just did the rear pads/rotors on a 2008 A6. You DO NOT need the VAG-COM to change the rear pads/rotors.
    Here's what you do, let's begin shall we...
    * make sure your EPB is not engaged
    * raise and secure vehicle on jack stands
    * remove wheel
    * disconnect the plug to the servo motor
    * remove servo motor from the caliper assembly, set it aside
    * on the back of the brake piston, use a T40 torx bit, turning CLOCKWISE. I turned mine 3-5 full rotations, then used a piston tool to push in the piston until it stopped. This was enough to make space to install the new pads.
    * install new pads and/or rotors
    * reassemble
    * once reassembled, pump brakes, turn car on and engage and disengage the EPB a few times. I heard it cycle the first time as it was seating itself.
    DONE!

      +csideblue1 You need some electronic device to push the brake pistons in, otherwise, the epb won't allow you to. Trust me. You cannot just push them all the way in as you are used to do with normal mechanic parking brake

    • @csideblue1
      @csideblue1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ok, whatever you say but I did it without an electronic device and the brakes are fine. Try it before you comment. smh...

      In the 'expert' video, the pistons are calibrated with the motor and cannot automatically detect new brake pads when they are installed but if that's so, then how to they adjust to wear ?

    Those retaining clips should have come with the pads! This procedure was far easier than my Jetta, this was similar to the front but the back one's were a pain in the arse. Why did you need the vcds tool to change the pads though? Good work as usual!

    • @BMACVAGS
      @BMACVAGS  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need the VCDS to release the EPB (Electric Parking Brake). It can't be done properly without it.

      BMAC VAGS love your answer bro. I have the same car 06 i need to do front brakes. Is this vad comm thing you speak of the "special tool" the autozone/mechanic that owns 3 supercharged audis is talking about? Can you buy it? He said i could rent it and is charging me 200 for labor because of this epb. Is it possible independent shops dont know about this and your brakes could seize up afterward? Thanks, cheers

    • @nazikalala
      @nazikalala 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      methafuture 7 months later, I'm sure you eventually got assisted by now but anyway you can buy the tool from eBay. I have the same car and I use an Autel VAG diagnostic unit that I bought on eBay. It is such a big saving to do these task for yourself

      @@nazikalala Hey thanks so much for your reply! I just did the rear brakes today and the EPB light is on the dash and e brake lights are flashing. also there is a long non stop beep/alert when i accelerate but when at a stop it goes away. Could this be happening because my mechanic didnt use the vag comm? He said the left rear caliper is not closing could this be the electronic caliper harness? he had an EPB plugged but i looked up the brand its like 25 bucks. he said hes able to open the caliper but not close it. so maybe a shortage. thats when i started researching about the elec. caliper harness. I hope that its just he didnt use the VAG COMM tool when he did the rears. any insight would be awesome thanks!

    • @nazikalala
      @nazikalala 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@laurarooks5680 hi there, I fear he might have messed some things there. The warning tone and lights are telling you the brakes are on retracted position so the car should not be operated until reset is completed. There is no way to bypass that mechanism without the right tool or electrical knowledge. I've seen someone using battery and wires to manipulate the unit on a Passat but he clearly is electrically clued up.
      I would suggest that you find someone who has the unit to reset your caliper pistons, even if for a small fee. You'll find out then if your mechanic damaged anything. Having worked on this, I seriously cannot understand how could he have worked on this system without the proper tool. It's actually scary that he has released the car in that condition as well. I'd imagine it is either not safe or busy damaging the whole mechanism as you keep driving. Hope you get assisted, good luck and please let me know

    • @samverve

      he did show how to do that - 2:15

    • @nazikalala
      @nazikalala 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      samverve no he didn't, there is no way you'll push that piston back like that. You need the VAG unit to retract it via OBD2 port first before prying it with the screwdriver

  • @problemkind75
    @problemkind75 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you change the brake pads like the video, is your caliper and the EPB death!
    And your brake disc on the right side it's completly ruined with the screwdriver and from the old pads! Look on the middle from your disc and you see, what i mean!
    Thanks for reading my comment . . .
