I have a daiwa reel with a rear click drag, I got it for my 14th birthday. I still have it, and lend it out sometimes to family. It's horrible, the drag barely works and is not smooth. It's heavy for It's size, and it's beat the hell up. I've now had it for 24 years this month, and despite all the downsides, it still works. After using pflueger and okuma for the last 12 years, I think I'm going to try this reel out. I've had two okuma reels that had broken handles within the last 2 years, kinda getting sick of contacting okuma to send parts to me.
I love ultra light rods and great multi species fishing day for you so much fun catching different types of fish and those gulp minnows works every time
Walmart has a $20 Shimano ultralight combo - 4'6". It's not fancy or whatever your expensive ones are, but has been a blast for me when fishing panfish and even 12" bass are a great fight. Anyone just wanting to test that side of fishing out I'd highly recommend.
Nice catches, I’d be happy catching all of those smallies, especially on the ultralight setup. I’m gonna check out that reel, looks real nice, great vid!
I picked up one of those diawa reel's. A 2000 size. I like it haven't caught anything on it but it cast's well. Put it on a 6.6 ultra light. Looking forward to the warm up.
For sure! The fact that you can get a reel that performs at a high level, has a strong drag system, and is lightweight for these prices is crazy! Super thankful I got this reel. Might sell my Pfluegers and swap more of these in.
I just bought a Daiwa Revos LT 1000. It’s nice, I like it but haven’t fished it yet. I do have a Pflueger President 2000 size. They are similar in size but the Pflueger feels like it was heavier built, and might be heavier. I have not looked at the specs yet. I will say the Pflueger is way more smoother. After having the Pflueger I was a little disappointed in Daiwa but have not fished it yet.
Well that didn’t take long. Lol, found my new ultra light reel. And I’m going to give the Daiwa laguna 1000 a shot on another 6’ light rod too. I’m binge watching most of your videos getting ideas and info.
@@FishAnything will this reel fit well on the Temple Fork Outfitters 6’ UL rod too? I’m going to pick that rod up also. I might even buy the Fishing 13 Architect A 1.0 size too.
@@michaelwright956 Yes, this reel will fit perfectly! I would personally stick with Daiwa over 13 Fishing. I have used both brands and Daiwa definitely has a cleaner drag and more sturdy feel to it.
Crappie, bluegill, bass on the UL. That's a fun day Ethan. Those Keitech plastics are nice but they're not very durable in my opinion. I've used the bigger ones and they rip up easy. The Sojourn and Daiwa reel seemlike a great, afordable combo. I have a heavy Sojourn rod. Congrats on your 1st trolling fish, Dink Master Troll Monster!
I recognize this place! There are a bunch of Warmouth and big bass and pike in the deep water structure if I am correct! Great video and nice multi species day!
Yeah I want to go back and chase bass with a drop shot. I think it will be magical! TBH the only reason I tried this spot is because you mentioned it has Warmouth. Can't believe I didn't find one!
They are in the pads and on the drop offs in the summer as far as ive seen. The skinny section in the middle of the lake has a big deep drop off with a ton of structure as well. Ps a weightless sekno kills it here!
Great stuff! I have to agree about the revros reels. I enjoy both of mine. I have the revros lt 2000 and the 2004h. So many good reels out there. Sometimes its hard to decide what to grab haha.
@@FishAnything truth 🤣. Been enjoying my penn fierce and quantum throttle reels too. They are a tad more and a bit heavier but solid with an aluminum frame haha. But the revros is a bit smoother and cheaper. The aluminum frame is a bit overkill haha.
Ultralight has been my favorite style fishing lately! I do need a new reel for my new Okuma, I’ll have to check this out! I was just waiting the whole time for that boat to go by again!
That shimano will last you a very long time. Can't complain about my Sienna at all! And the barrel was tied off to the tree or whatever the heck was under water. I guess it is to keep people from running over it when the water gets lower.
Believe me I am working on it! Hopefully won't be too long now :) stay tuned to the email notification list & social media, I will be posting a lot once they are back.
Yeah I totally agree. Slim SwimZ are better for sure. I wanted to try the Easy Shiners because of the smaller profile. Only 2" long and really mimics small forage well. Too bad they are so dang soft.
Ya . Got an ultralight rod 6 ft on Amazon canada for 59$ just waiting for it to be shipped. Just waiting for a few pay checks to get the reel I saved in Amazon canada for later . It's should be decent for trout. I'll probably buy a 5 ft rod too just for smaller aces to get into. Lol. But ya love the video...
great and awesome video this is. when it comes to ultralight fishing rod and reel combos, i go to cabela's. they are affordable and great stuff. for a rod and reel combo i pay only $30.00----$45.00 it's good enough for me and catching trout
Hmm I’m sorry they are out of stock in so many places! Daiwa is having a hard time keeping up with demand from the sounds of it. I would suggest finding a 5 - 6’ UL rod that isn’t too “whippy”. If you can pick it up and shake the rod tip and it holds pretty still (doesn’t have too much noodle action), that is what I look for. My Shimano sojourn is also a good rod!
A cheaper alternative to this reel is the Shimano fx. It's very sturdy, it outlasted my Shimano Sienna and I dropped the Shimano fx many times on rock and grass and it's still in great condition 👍
It's not just all fun. There's skill involved in catching fish that small, with their tiny little mouths. Fun day, anyway. Like you, I can't justify paying big buck for UL gear either, but I'd like to try a high-end UL rod some day, because the cheap ones all seem too whippy and not very sensitive.
I'll ask you a million questions buddy. Choice between a PFluger Presidential, Presidential XT and a Shimano Sadno ??? And I need to fill my tackle box with Mule jigs . Finally someone else other than me that loves Ultralight.

Ethan, you have to try the 1/64 ounce mule jig on a 4 inch or 5 inch Yamamoto kut tail worm. It's a dirty little number and I smash the bass out here on that. I catch a bunch of dinks, but I've caught 4 pounders on it too. Try it I guarantee you won't regret it.
Perfect timing for this video. Just picked up a new ultralight rod and was looking for a reel and found your channel. Great content!

They certainly don't make them as durable as they used to. I doubt this reel will last you 20+ years but it should do just fine for a long time.
Started using this combo and absolutely love it! Thanks for the info
Awesome! Tight lines!
Just bought this Daiwa reel 1000 size. The drag sounds nice. I put it in a 7 foot ugly stik carbon. Can’t wait to fish it.

Hey! Loving your videos! I just subscribed and bought a Sojourn! I was wondering what is that jighead holder you have with you at 6:25?
It’s just a cheap fly box from Cabelas!

Easy shiners are killer but tear when a fish looks at it. You can’t beat slimswimz for finesse swimbaits

What size reel works well for an ultralight. I have a 7ft canyon creek ultra light rod. I’m thing 2000 sized reel.
I prefer size 1000 for most applications, but with a 7' rod, I think the 2000 may be a bit better for balancing purposes.
