Speaking about the garbage smell. The term Sanitation workers in NYC actually use is "NOSE BLIND." They tell me the workers don't smell the garbage after a few months. Love the channel
I too made a comment/question about bringing your trash truck home and washing it in your driveway. I work for myself doing heating and air and do not live in an hoa neighborhood and even though I offer free service to my neighbors they often complain about my 2 vehicles 1 van that is lettered up and 1 service truck not lettered up sitting in my driveway I couldn't imagine showing up with a garbage truck and then washing all the garbage juice from it onto the ground in front of my neighbors. I'd have to move if I started a garbage business
If I was your neighbor, the only thing I would be concerned about is smell/rodents/bugs. Since you clean your truck every week, it sounds like you don't have those issues so there should be nothing to complain about.
Highest volume of trash on the 1st of the month and it peaks again in the middle of the month. This is due to a lot of people getting paid on the 1st and 15th or every 2 weeks. Its been this way my whole life. My dad had a trash business while I was growing up and now I own one too. Some things never change.
@22:50 - Our service here in central Texas actually, via phone app, notifies us the day prior so they don't have these fluctuation in weights & times... I never understood why until you explained it, in volume, and it makes complete sense as to why they notify us. Helps them be more consistent and efficient and cheaper for everyone - even tho it seems counter... Thanks for sharing!
So do you need to go to the dump during your single day run OR can your trash truck go to all of your customers and collect and then do a dump? Thank you and I love that you are super transparent on you and your wife opening up a new business.
Wrapping up the lawn care season this past week I've found myself many a times covered in mulched leaves sitting upon my zero turn. I shake them off, kick them forward off the foot plate, and use a grabber to get the big clumps off the top of the deck. But one time this week while the temperatures have dropped I found myself wearing winter work gloves and reaching down to my right to remove a clump of those leaves off the discharge side of the deck. Sitting back up I thought, that was dumb. I could have gotten that glove and my hand caught up in a deck belt. I was reminded of this moment at the 17:28 point in this video. I wish you prosperity and certainly no ill will. But please for your own safety keep your hands away from 'Lil Ms Pac-Tuah's rear end.
Could be a good idea to get an outdoor bug zapper to prevent the fly problem from getting worse. Even if they disapate they are still around probably making a nest somewhere
You may not see anything wrong, but if it is actually wrong depends where you live. Almost all areas residential zoned areas have local codes that prohibit this. For example, this is one area in Florida """ City Code References Include: Section 25.750.2 Commercial Vehicles in Residential Zoning Districts. All “commercial vehicles,” including self-propelled vehicles with or without trailers, having a weight class of one (1) ton or more individually, or combined, and all commercial trailers, are prohibited from parking in any residential zoning district (street or lot) except while standing on a temporary basis for the purpose of loading or unloading, or providing other services, common to residential areas, or as may be permitted for non-residential uses under Section 25.760 of this Chapter."""
The nose comment was hilarious. I have a large Greek nose but since I’m a plumber I’m used to sewer smell and I can’t smell it anymore and other people can😂.
It’s surprising to me that you’re able to run this type of business from your home since it sounds like you said you live in the city limits. Most of the time that requires additional licensing and reviews from a Building and Zoning department. How many licenses are you required to have? City, county, and state?
Zilch. One of the benefits to the state and area of the state I live in. Running the same business a county or two over would have worlds more red tape and fees.
Find a spot on the truck to locate a 5 gallon tank, run a 12v electric pump and some hoses and give the box and tail door a 5 gallon rinse out as you are tipped at the landfill. Get rid of the bulk of crap residue while it is open.
I figured it was a matter of time until I saw this title. You wash your truck and it doesn't stink. People should really mind their business. This is why I just want a couple acres of my own.
Does all the affluent stay in the hopper until is emptied at the land fill? I really enjoy your videos, particularly seeing you build your own business
You’re exactly right. You can’t put your business to a holt because your neighbors don’t like what they see… but I have an idea for you. Would you ever consider making the gate to the backyard larger and making a concrete or gravel pad in the back to park on?
I'm sure you've thought of this, but when the city trash contract is up for renewal, are you considered offering your services to them to replace the out-of-county trash service?
making some money on a truck that runs only once a week is really good. if you add enough clients to split the route into two days, you'll be making plenty
Weird question 😅: do you have certain stops/customers that you think you could identify them by the state of their garbage? Like is there any kind of identity or personality or trend to some of your stops that are above ordinary? Love the videos! Keep it up.
I couldn’t imagine living in an area with a HOA, especially as a small business owner. Thankfully you don’t have to mess with any of that and you can legally park your Brand New Isuzu in your own driveway. 🇺🇸 #smallBusiness
I’m just here to say that I anxiously await every video just to see how many times you’ll say “2 cans” and then see if you put up the toucan (my fav part) 😅 …. the first part of this video 2 cans was mentioned, but there was no toucan…. Therefore I got very excited at the end of the video when the toucan appeared! 😂😂😂 #ItsTheLittleThings
You burden yourself by having to take your own weekly garbage to the dump in a garbage truck you purchased. Past that, you go above and beyond what 95% of people would do and you share it openly with the world. Keep up the good work
Curious to know if/when you are ordering more trash cans? I see you passed the halfway mark for the number you ordered.. Love the videos, keep them coming!!
In terms of balancing on tires of that size/ truck size, there is a bag of glass beeds that gets tosssed in with the tire when mounted. After a few miles the bags are supposed to break and it "self balances".
Even though you don’t live in an HOA there is likely still restrictions when it comes to running a business out of your house. So if neighbors start to complain you could have issues. I used to run my landscape business out of my house. Non HOA but it’s still not allowed. I never had any issues because no one ever complained. Not sure what it’s like where you live on the laws, but if that happens zoning board may require you to start parking commercial vehicles elsewhere. You could EASILY find a commercial lot where you could rent one space for $150/month. Not as convenient but if you have issues. Could also consider putting up a small metal building to park it in. They’re fairly cheap.
I suppose it just shows my limited experience with garbage, but it's wild to me how many customers you have with trash covered in magots or other bugs. Is that maybe a climate thing? I live in Oregon where it's cooler and dryer.
My neighbor has a son working for the contracted trash company here. He lives a long ways away. Sometimes he gets assigned to our area. So, on his brakes or end of day, he parks on the street in front of her house to visit. The neighbor across are new to the neighborhood. The local Karen's. She has a hissyfit whenever he is here. She complained to me and I told her that he is her son visiting when he is assigned to this area. It's a public street. He won't be long. Usually an hour.
It has nothing to do with HOA’s it has to do with Zoning. You can’t just operate any business from your home, especially if your business is within a city limit or in this case, dealing with waste. There are licenses required in most states at every level. City, county and state. If operating this business under the radar then I would think days are numbered running from a private residence. In most every city in this country it’s illegal for any business to have any type of runoff into a storm drain. That means washing your truck and having the runoff go into a storm sewer. Dealing with any state epa is not fun and can be extremely costly.
The business isn't operated from my home. That would be if I had a restaurant in my kitchen, or a tax preparation office in my bedroom, or shelves of stuff you could buy in my living room. If the actual service occurs at other peoples homes, then it isn't based at my home (just like my lawn care business isn't based at my house, despite the fact that I clean my lawn care equipment at home). No state license required for sanitation in Florida nor in my county/city, but feel free to double check! State EPA is always a possibility but hopefully we can add a portable water reclamation unit to the process soon and fix that last issue!
How close are you to capacity on the truck? I mean does it seem like you're gonna have to dump them go finish collecting, or add another day anytime soon?
I retired from working at a waste water plants for over 20 years. My last 15 years, our plant took flow from a Tyson chicken plant. People skied me if the plant stinks, I told them it smelled Ike a pay check!!!!!!
Just a little question I had. How come your start times are so different each week? One day it’ll be 4:40 and then the next one, it’ll be 4:10. Do you set different alarms sometimes or what? Just curious
I have no problem with a nice clean trash truck parked on your own property. It just shows you're a working man trying to make something of yourself. Some people would complain if you handed them a gold bar. Keep doing what you do
''aside from the 10 minutes it idles up in the morning at 3.50 in the morning''... it's a diesel truck in a residential neighborhood. we had an OTR trucker living next to us. you bet we called code enforcement. an idling truck at 4 am is noisy[ even tho you stated it made no noise. electric?] they shut him down based on 1. business in a residential neighborhood. 2. noise. 3. smell. consider parking it in a commercial lot and driving to it. property values are an additional issue to those around you. i had my house appraised 15 k higher when i got him to move. as a side note, i am a swamp rat from dinsmore. the humidity is gonna keep that smell hangin' low and long for quite some time.
Thank you for the Slop-o-vision at the end there.... flash backs to school dinners and mums 'soup'.... at how many empty cans left in the garden/driveway will you make the decision to order more new ones?
i see both sides of the story yes its a very clean and neat trash truck, but it is a commercial vehicle in a residential area, yes you still see big UPS and trash trucks on the streets during the day but people like to see them temporarily. i honestly have no problems with you having the truck on your drive way and I see both sides of the story on how its unfair to both sides. if you could park it behind your fence it would definite solve problems for you and others.
Hi brad, curious about the video footage from the weeks you didn’t show and gave numbers for. Would you consider posting it sometime? (Doesn’t have to have voiceover) I do realize it takes time to edit, so maybe if you slow down sometime? Thanks!
From the color of your forbidden soup, it looked like someone dumped a jug of used motor oil in their trash. Does the landfill bawk at that type of trash?
I understand that it may be an eyesore, especially if it was dirty, on the street, etc. On the other hand, is it any worse than blue tarps covering roofs/trailers/wood piles/etc.? Or garbage cans sitting out on the curb for days on end because an owner doesn’t bring them in? Or piles of recycling/garbage people stack up waiting to get rid of it? Or old/unused/rotting children’s play equipment?
My wife and I use to not have great smelling capabilities . However, since we have been eating a carnivore lifestyle, we can smell things quite easily. I can literally smell people approaching me from several feet away as I'm servicing customers yards Lol
If people are really annoyed about being a trash truck, maybe put some cover, or inside a tent. These way they stop thinking too much about it, and since it doesn't have bad smells, they most likely will forget about most of the time.
I haven't done the math but the amount of 15 seconds per stop it would have to save to make up the cost and complexity of adding that that would be astronomical. The other issue is if the can is full the hopper can't really hold two cans worth of trash before needing to cycle it.
Brad unless your town or county or state have laws against you parking a commerical truck on your property then it seems legal . if you start getting visits from your town or county inspectors or someone complains 500 times a week and the town or county then have to come out look and see if said complaint is valid or not . if the truck stank then maybe it could be considered a health violation but has clean has you keep it i doubt thats the issue maybe somebody just has a bone to pick with you who knows . brad if you parked 40 yard roll off dumpsters in your yard thats different but a small trash truck it isnt an eye sore . brad on trucks they go by hours of use to determine the changes . brad truck oil changes filter changes i would recommend going to a shop the reason is because they have the pits the tools and they can dispose of the used fluids . the amount of oil in the motor alone to drain it will require very large deep pans then the hard part is disposing of the used oil . brad if you do the oil changes yourself id look in the phonebook and see if you can find a company who will come either pickup or if you store your used oil theyll come pump it for free companys like safetykleen might do it . brad unless you want to invest alot of money in tools id let a truck mechanic place do the tires because they have the sockets the large impact guns and large jacks and special machines to balance truck tires . the machines alone are at least a few grand and it takes some knowledge when balancing tires plus the lead weights used arent cheap or easy to come by . certain tasks you can handle but other tasks you really need a fully equiped garage not a home driveway or home car garage .
Absolutely not, he just be leaving a trail around the neighborhood and illegally dumping whatever is in it. Most of it gets pushed out at the dump where they're expecting it
The first few weeks I had the truck I had to one without one because the dealer didn't give me one. It isn't pretty and you leave big messes on the road and in front of your customers' driveways.
I have a vending machine business. If I leave a vending machine on my driveway up against the garage door where the front of the vendor is not visible...... someone always complains to the city by law department
Brad, I support you in everything you do because I love your garbage truck. However, it's a garbage truck parked in a residential neighborhood. I get what your neighbor is saying. Things like that can affect home prices in your street, which directly impacts your neighbor's return on their home investment. Please consider understanding where they are coming from. Consider erecting a large RV-type garage to be closed off from anyone's eyes. I wish you and your family continued success.
You seem like an honest person and i hope you can take this as constructive and not hateful. But you sort of addressed it but i feel came to the wrong conclusion. You are in fact operating a trash business out of your house. your business mail im sure goes to your house, you store your equipment there, you clean your equipment there. You are operating out of your house. I bet it will even appear on google maps as a trash business eventually. Point im making is people dont want to live next to a trash operation. for obvious reasons.
The business address is our residence for sure, but it isn't operated at my home.
"Point im making is people dont want to live next to a trash operation. for obvious reasons." I'm just asking for someone, anyone to list those obvious reasons so we can address them one by one, because the only one I've heard is 'looking at the truck'.
@@CopperCreekCuts Now this is where you become less honest. You know nobody wants: the smell, the noise, the extra traffic, property devaluation, commercial operations run out of neighborhoods is an eye sore and a nuisance to MANY PEOPLE. *do what you want to and can do legally, but dont act like there isnt a reason for your neighbors to dislike it *
@@CopperCreekCutsdon’t worry about the complainers , the ignorance of people who seem to have no life or business experience and think businesses magically operate with no inconveniences or costs especially starting out is insane
What happens with all the liquid that lays in the "tray" bottom part of the compactor? I know you have a plug there you talked about removing when cleaning, but what about while youre driving around? Does it just stay there and slosh around until you get to the dump?
Do you have any other means of income? How can you afford for this to not be profitable? Keep up the good work. I look forward to your videos every week.
That's the cleanest trash truck I've ever seen. It looks fine.
Thank you!
I definitely see a lotta worse looking vehicles in my neighborhood.
I totally agree!
Speaking about the garbage smell. The term Sanitation workers in NYC actually use is "NOSE BLIND." They tell me the workers don't smell the garbage after a few months. Love the channel
You can still smell it, you just get used to it.
I too made a comment/question about bringing your trash truck home and washing it in your driveway. I work for myself doing heating and air and do not live in an hoa neighborhood and even though I offer free service to my neighbors they often complain about my 2 vehicles 1 van that is lettered up and 1 service truck not lettered up sitting in my driveway I couldn't imagine showing up with a garbage truck and then washing all the garbage juice from it onto the ground in front of my neighbors. yes you are so right
it was really hard to concentrate on the dialogue of the video, because my eyes were mesmerized by the "forbidden chocolate milk" 😂😂
Highest volume of trash on the 1st of the month and it peaks again in the middle of the month. This is due to a lot of people getting paid on the 1st and 15th or every 2 weeks. Its been this way my whole life. My dad had a trash business while I was growing up and now I own one too. Some things never change.
ive been waiting for this with too much anticipation
@22:50 - Our service here in central Texas actually, via phone app, notifies us the day prior so they don't have these fluctuation in weights & times... So do you need to go to the dump during your single day run OR can your trash truck go to all of your customers and collect and then do a dump? Thank you and I love that you are super transparent on you and your wife opening up a new business.
Your efficiency is so much higher now than in the beginning.
I love watching your videos. Keep up the good work. I just subscribed to your TH-cam channel. Much love.
I see nothing wrong with you parking it at home. It's your house and property. It has nothing to do with them
You may not see anything wrong, but if it is actually wrong depends where you live. Almost all areas residential zoned areas have local codes that prohibit this.

Yeah man, many people don't like the way freedom looks. Please, for the love of God and all things good, carry on doing what you do!

I really enjoy your videos, particularly seeing you build your own business
Is there a way to create simple landscaping (tall evergreens) to hide the truck or can you park it inside your fence?
You’re exactly right. You can’t put your business to a holt because your neighbors don’t like what they see… but I have an idea for you. Would you ever consider making the gate to the backyard larger and making a concrete or gravel pad in the back to park on?
I'm sure you've thought of this, but when the city trash contract is up for renewal, are you considered offering your services to them to replace the out-of-county trash service?
Keep it clean and professional. Also can we see more videos dumping at the landfill? Also maybe split camera from inside the cab and also you loading
most folks going to complain regardless.
My comment! Thanks for going in depth.
making some money on a truck that runs only once a week is really good. if you add enough clients to split the route into two days, you'll be making plenty

I know who all the alcoholics are on my route because they're recycling bins are full to the brim of beer bottles and cans

What was in that bottle that you pulled out of the hopper
When you go to the dump do you drain the juice at the same time and have less cleanup at home?
I thought there were holes so the gravy would leak out. Do you keep them closed until you reach the dump?
It has nothing to do with HOA’s it has to do with Zoning. You can’t just operate any business from your home, especially if your business is within a city limit or in this case, dealing with waste. Yes, the alarms are consistently getting earlier by 15 minutes or so a week.
@ gotcha. Thanks!
I get wet the guys coming from but it’s not like it is dirty and stinky. I think if you keep it clean it is just fine.
How do you manage the garbage route and make sure you go to every house? Is it from memory or do use some sort of app?
Apropos of nothing, cook-at-home pizza seems a fact of life in Baker County, a rural area in Northeast Florida, and I'm all for it! 🍕🍕
How are you planning on charging/ do you even offer bulk trash pickup. Ie bed frames mattress couches etc
Do you ever have anyone leave bags on the hopper lip when its sitting there parked?
I have no problem with a nice clean trash truck parked on your own property. It just shows you're a working man trying to make something of yourself. Some people would complain if you handed them a gold bar. Keep doing what you do
What’s the long term plan for the dump trailer? Any plans to sell off unused equipment to recoup some of the costs?
How did you build business credit to be able to get your equipment?
Hey Brad would you ever consider starting a recycling or organics collection system
Do you ever let the garbage juice out? Mid-run? Seems to really build up in there
Now time for a bin washing business

You really need a power rake for the Ventrac. You've got a goldmine of busted driveways on your route.
My wife and I use to not have great smelling capabilities . However, since we have been eating a carnivore lifestyle, we can smell things quite easily. I can literally smell people approaching me from several feet away as I'm servicing customers yards Lol
you should add a mack md6 garbage truck
thats some juicey trash there this time ...
Do you ever pack out
We washed out garbage trucks daily at my municipality, but they always reeked and rodents abounded.
If people are really annoyed about being a trash truck, maybe put some cover, or inside a tent. These way they stop thinking too much about it, and since it doesn't have bad smells, they most likely will forget about most of the time.
Could you not have a double can lifter fitted. So you can dump the clients with 2 at the same time?? There for saving extra time in the two can stops
I haven't done the math but the amount of 15 seconds per stop it would have to save to make up the cost and complexity of adding that that would be astronomical. The other issue is if the can is full the hopper can't really hold two cans worth of trash before needing to cycle it.
Maybe do an average monthly cost? Just a suggestion and thought
Curious, how are you going out and getting more trash business?
Oh on Netflix there's a kids cartoon called trash truck it's awesome. That truck is about size of yours
Bring back the toucans name him toucan sam

@@CopperCreekCutsohh didn’t see it some how 😅
Pull that darn drain plug :)
Is your truck small enough to not be CDL required
so far, whats your favorite type of trashbag
I would have to say yardwaste juice is the worst. 23 yrs in the garbage industry. I still get queasy when I smell it.
Whats an Hoa?
Brad, I support you in everything you do because I love your garbage truck. However, it's a garbage truck parked in a residential neighborhood. I get what your neighbor is saying. Things like that can affect home prices in your street, which directly impacts your neighbor's return on their home investment. Please consider understanding where they are coming from. Consider erecting a large RV-type garage to be closed off from anyone's eyes. I wish you and your family continued success.
Was it a neighbor or Someone on email or TH-cam
You seem like an honest person and i hope you can take this as constructive and not hateful. But you sort of addressed it but i feel came to the wrong conclusion. You are in fact operating a trash business out of your house. your business mail im sure goes to your house, you store your equipment there, you clean your equipment there. You are operating out of your house. I bet it will even appear on google maps as a trash business eventually. Point im making is people dont want to live next to a trash operation. for obvious reasons.
The business address is our residence for sure, but it isn't operated at my home.
Hope you never get a "hot load" as the truck is mint
Is there any recycling in your area? We have a strong financially beneficial recycling program in my rural area just north of you.
None. You probably have infrastructure that supports it, our recycling facility at the landfill is a 6x10 dump trailer.🤣
It’s a great day when Brad posts the classic trash route commentary video. Have you re-ordered or plan to re-order soon more cans?
What happens with all the liquid that lays in the "tray" bottom part of the compactor? I know you have a plug there you talked about removing when cleaning, but what about while youre driving around? Does it just stay there and slosh around until you get to the dump?
Do you have any other means of income? How can you afford for this to not be profitable? Keep up the good work. I look forward to your videos every week.
Buy a used trash truck use the new one for backup keep it alive for longer
@CopperCreekCuts Why are you idling? You start, you drive, you shut down.
How will he power the PTO if he’s not idling?
How much money do you make a week?
Are you serious? 😆 Watch the video!
