The "obsidian tower" which the exos had to kill everyone they knew to reach always felt like a reference to The Dark Tower books and how the protagonist reached it.
I always interpreted it as mara entered the distributary and became the first awoken at the same time the collapse happened. So all the awoken were in the distributary unaware of the collapse happening (or at least not fully knowledgeable on what exactly was happening).
Mara spent millions of years in the distributary because of the way time works in it, after being suddenly exploded by a black hole, so I just wrote it off as it being so incomprehensively ancient that the fine details were lost possibly there weren't even any fine details to experience in the first place
@@varisrevolver4061 Traveler sacrificed itself during Collapse by casting the Witness and Black Fleet back to edges of the universe, and created Ghosts in the process to seek out and resurrect Guardians
I think that we should haved faced each disciple in an expansion like beyond light and were we got the darkness subclasses like how we faced airmess In beyond light and got stasis , nazerack should have been next and we get the nightmare subclass, then finally we face Zevou for the strand class & along with callus in lightfall and we get the prismatic class in the final shape
Although as much as I love that idea we have to be real with ourselves here...With this community they'd bitch and complain that the expansions would have a redundant story and would be "trash". Hell Beyond Light got that hate just because facing Eramis and her crew was in the same format as facing Fikrul and the Barons in Forsaken. So according to the dinguses that came up with that argument Bungie isn't allowed to give bosses lieutenants anymore because it'll be copying off Forsaken. But I do hope we can find out more about other Disciples since there's two in lore that we haven't discovered. One in the Root of Nightmares lore (if I remember correctly) and then whoever the owner of Winterbite is since all glaives besides ours were crafted for Disciples.
To think we could have gotten it way better regarding the darkness.. all the concepts and ideas bungie had for what the darkness is and even more concepts, ideas and even some already developed things regarding the pyramids and the pyramid race.. only for bungie to reboot things right before release, changing whole expansions after already developing them to a good degree, teasing things that never came to be because narrative teams changed too much.. its a shame All the ideas, like the pyramid race being ancient human before d1 even released, but then those enemies got cut and many of their features and lore got used for the hive and fallen. Then we have all the witch queen environmental storytelling inside the pyramids with ancient human statues, artifacts with latin writing, even some unused, last minute cut of human statues portraying the pyramids masters, to concept art portraying the witness as a pale, bald human woman with the skull smoke behind her intead of coming out of the head. Then the king and queen statues that even made it into the game, showing entities that look almost exactly like the concept art of the pyramid race that was released some months ago. Or the idea that this race came from the black garden, and all the concept art that came with it showing them living there, an idea that was not just a staten cut thing, but those same blue shimmering entities seem to have made it to d2 concept art too, so bungie played around with the idea of using them for a while. Its really a shame, while TFS made me really like the witness as a villain and an character, and i liked the lore of the precursors (also a shame we never got to know the real name of the species who created the witness), it was a shame to see them having to flesh out the witness in the last expansion rather then using lightfall for it. The witness got interesting the same expansion we killed it. Then the whole unveiling drama with bungie retconning unveiling during lightfall, hinting heavily at the witness being the winnower, but never outright saying it, always playing both sides (unveiling is propaganda of the witness but maybe not and maybe dont trust everything the witness says etc) while having so much lore, ingame hints and even d1 lore and ingame stuff that heavily contradicted bungies "witness was winnower all along" attempt at retconning. It split the lore community only for bungie clearing it up in final shape anyway and going back to witness and winnower being seperate. Also last but not least, the whole "you will get answers on the grandest scale and design regarding Darkness/light, Gardener/winnower, unveiling, witness/traveler and veil and pyramids in TFS" but us getting like next to no answers Yes we know now that unveiling is not fake and winnower and witness are seperate, but what is the traveler, where does it come from, why was it buried in the ground of the precursors planet, what is the veil, and is it a portal or a door to something like it is suggested in lore and even supported by unreleased animations of a guardian falling into it. What is the deep exactly, who is the formless one, why was nezarec a devote follower of the witness when his goals and his agenda goes heavily against that of the witnesses final shape. What are the trees of silver wings, what and where is the black garden, is it the original garden before time where the winnower and gardener played the flower game ? There is so much more that could and should have been answered, and bungie seems to hint and build up to something with the newly released lore of winnower and gardener and the whole thing about species finding pyramid artifacts or even encountering darkness creatures we never encountered long before the witness and the black fleet even arrived at their system and even golden age weapon foundries using pyramid tech for weapons during the golden age. But then dont call the last saga the light and dark saga when this whole conflict and topic is not over yet. It was more like the eramis and witness saga. Rant over
We should definitely talk lore some time cause a lot of what you said I agree with. Like don't get me wrong TFS is and will always be my favorite expansion since I've been playing Destiny since the end of the D1 Xbox Beta and to see this 10 year story come to a close it was emotional and i loved every part of it. Although like you I wish there was more explanations to long theorized things and yes I know Destiny's charm is it's mystery, but I feel like this expansion should've given us more when it came to the written lore. Like for me I think either having Cayde or our Guardian talk to the Traveler or even this is how they introduce the Gardener and she's the bright white women figure from the cut part of the Ares One mission (Original Opening of Destiny where they find the Traveler on Mars). Even if it was a cryptic message or she doesn't say anything and just shows images that would've satisfied my curiosity. Also if you ever wanna talk lore my Discord is the same as my username here so feel free to shoot me a message, just let me know that it's you so I don't think you're some random XD
To me, it just always seemed like the D2 writing team was just guessing at a story they were handed, but never really understood. So many of the interesting concepts from D1 were either ignored, forgotten about, retconned, or concluded in a way that just wasn’t satisfying. I’d seriously give anything to have an interview with Staten about the original vision for the story. For me, to this day, Destiny is the most captivating world ever imagined in fiction, and I’ll always see it as tragic how much potential went unrealized.
What happened to the black fleet? The witness apparently took them with him on the traveler. But when the Guardian arrived there was no sign of the fleet.
What ever happened to the crown of sorrow after we had it in the helm? The Egregor spores were all over the place. the game never addressed what happened to the crown of sorrow. (To my knowledge)
@plaztik767 I think they addressed it in game. I forget when though. It's in the same vault that they held savathuns body in before allowing immaru to revive her.
@@alee2128 I'm sad she didn't come back in the Excision mission. Like I know she's a pacifist and all now, but if she could come back for the Red War in lore than I think she should've helped her kind fight off the most powerful being to exist that's be the reason for so many deaths to her fellow Guardians and even to the innocent. Also I just want an excuse to see my D1 waifu again XD

Mara didn’t know about Savathun and Nezarec. She was on one of the early evacuation ships and well out of range of Earth by that time.
