  • LEGENDS OF THE OLD WEST presented by Black Barrel Media. The Nez Percé have performed an extraordinary feat: they have traveled more than 1,300 miles and repelled three American armies in a series of battles and smaller skirmishes. But they are sore and exhausted. They are within reach of the Canadian border and freedom, but another American army joins the hunt and forces the final showdown between the Nez Percé and the United States.

I truly enjoy your stories. As a black American this is true history that we all should have been taught In School.

By the end of it all I found myself pulling for the Nez Perce, even tho I know what happens.
Helluva chase they led em' on though, sure as shit didn't make it easy. Gotta respect that endurance and determination.

I loved this series, I grew up in south eastern Washington State, been to the town of Joseph in Oregon and Wallowa Lake and it's beautiful country, it's too bad they couldn't have returned to their homeland but it's a sad.part of history

Great job as always wish they could've made it sad chapter in this country but jealousy among the tribes cost a way of life that would have ended anyway so sad

I've been to the Big Hole battlefield and camped at the Chief Joseph Dam nearby. I can see these places as I listen. Truly awesome video! Thank you!

This "video" would have been better if it showed images (where available) of those being referred to, maps, and images of the locations being referenced.

Almost finished 'binging' on the Nez Percé history. Excellent !
'Nez Percé' is French for 'Pierced Nose.' Sounds like 'Neight Pear-Say' when heard.
Wonder when they lost that 'tradition' in style ? Introduction of horses perhaps ? Anyone know ?

Good questions, I don't know the answers but I do know Nez Perce got the wrong end of the gun maybe more so than any of the other tribes.

@@ericcrawford3453 Off all the native tribes I know anything about (always liked history) they are the ones I admire most. Strongly suspect the horse made a difference when battle tactics demanded close facial contact movement while clinging to the sides of the animal, causing irritation etc.

Yeah the Americans and Canada won the land but did they really win ? Looking at it from present we get to go to university or college funded by the band and we don’t pay certain taxes when living on reserve
Free dental work to in Canada

Which would you rather have - all the legally agreed to treaty land that was negotiated in the mid 19th century or free teeth cleanings 😂

@@darbyohara ya but you don’t anything u pay full taxes when I work on the reserve I don’t pay any taxes nothing free dental work free education you have to pay for it and we still have land it’s not so bad in the 21 century
I even get 500 bucks just before Christmas at least my band gets it others don’t my band is well off we own a beach and tourist go there other bands or reserves are not so lucky like up north dirty water and stuff and they poor they don’t have things that like mine
