So love your patterns and how you explain how to make them. Thank you, love your pool noodle quilting❤ only one problem I watch from England so what is minky? 😂
Even if your husband can see how the sections are put together, he's not going to care. All that's going to matter to him is that you love him so much that you made a gift designed especially for him and him alone. Well done!
Love this colorful quilt and love that you just do it and not overthink it!! Love that you’re not a perfectionist and your backings can be “out of the box”!!❤
My very first quilt was 100” square and every focal fabric was a memory jog of the favourite things for my sister and her husband. I called it Making Memories and when I gave it to them the other week (we won’t be together for Xmas) they were blown away! They loved it! I also learned so much making it! 🌻
I am working on ‘going away’ quilts for each of my grandsons. When I pass I do not want a funeral, wake, viewing, etc., there aren’t that many people I know that are close enough to drive here anyway. I don’t want people looking at my dead body! I want their memories of me to be when I was alive. Their quilts will have pieces of my flannel nighties, their favorite colors, and on the back a note in my handwriting “I will love you forever, Granny”. I have watched these two boys grow up from infants to college graduates so my ‘disappearance’ will affect them emotionally. With these quilts, made with my love, they will always have a reminder of my love for them.
Great tip on the interfacing of flannel! I have a set of turning twenty flannel Quilt blocks that have just been giving me fits. I had thought about using interfacing, but was concerned that it might be too heavy for this quilt. Your comments have helped me tremendously. I will go hunt for a very light interfacing to control it. Then I’m gonna finish squaring my blocks and finally put them together! Thank you.
Great masculine quilt! I know he will love it! I hope you do get him on camera when he opens it! I love the way you accept that every quilt does not have to be ‘perfect’! That we sometimes have little blemishes in our work. That little piece of encouraging advice saved me from getting frustrated with myself. 😊❤ You keep it real, and I love your videos!! 😊❤
I like the affirmation blocks switched up on their sides. This is a very nice quilt, I'm sure he will love it. Thanks for the tips about piecing different types of flannel.
Ok! This is my fav video so far!! Thank you for saying what you are thinking out loud! That is inspirational; i can almost believe I can do it when I hear you talk it through! You are truly wonderful, Tracy!! So many good ideas! I will have to watch this over and over!! I love minky so much and your hints are great!! The overlapping join is so good!! This quilt will be a heirloom in your family!! Your energy is awesome!! Your problem solving skills are equally awesome!! I love your Juki!!😮 your big meander is brilliant!!
I love lining a quilt with flannel, even without a minky back they have a wonderful weight. Maybe living in Texas has something to do with it - we don't have much need for heavy quilts!
I’m collecting flannel shirts too 👍 I haven’t got enough that will ‘work’ together yet but I’m looking forward to getting it started 😃 Your quilt looks wonderful and I’m sure that your husband is thrilled with his new quilt 🥰 And you did a marvellous job actually quilting it on your sewing machine 👏👍 Not many people would have been brave enough to do that, but now we all know it’s possible 🤩👏 Thanks for the tip about stabilising the flannel 👏👏🇬🇧
O, Tracey! So want to watch & learn from this video but I have to run a couple of errands 😢 I'll rewatch from the beginning this afternoon, promise with my right hand up. Everyone enjoy & learn from Tracey!!😊 Tracey, duckbill scissors are good for trimming with very little worry of cutting something you don't want cut🎉
Tracy you have such nice videos. I love watching you. I want to say what a clever idea of putting the command hooks on your rulers! They look much more easier to handle. I bought some to put on mine. God Bless you and your family.
I love your thoroughness on constant trimming. I only recently realized that doing this keeps my quilt completely square at the end. Each block needs to be as perfect as I can get it. Perfection isn’t guaranteed-it is just a goal.
I’m in the process of making a memory quilt for someone from her mother in laws clothing. Having to stabilize the fabric is a long process so if I ever do it again it will be for someone special like my husband❤ It’s sweet of you to make that for yours. It’s a labor of love for sure!
Your process for putting this quilt together as a collage is exactly the process I used for my granddaughter’s T-shirt, Quilts. They both turned out really beautiful. However, I think it might have gone better if I had a design wall like yours. Laying them out on the bed just didn’t work as nicely.
Another helper with lap drag I was told to try and it helped is put a pillow, I use a guest bed pillow, and it will be even better with your little secrete necklace. I do tuck the pillow under the lip of the table while it’s in my lap . I do quilting on a HQ Capri 18 and my domestic Pfaff. The pillow helped a lot. Off to make my quilting necklace.❤
I have been sewing for 65 years and consìder myself extremely good at it because of my great love for it and God allowing me to find the natural talent he gave very young. However! You never cease to amaze me with the bright ideas you come up with. Thank you, thank you, thank for how sharing so freely with us. I would love to share many of my ideas back with you and I will if i regain my health again. You are truly a sewing giant. Love from Texas!
I'm sitting here in a cold room (heated, but I'm still cold) watching you meander through the top and thinking how nice to climb underneath. I've only done a baby quilt with minky and said never again. But yours looks amazing and I love all the scriptures on there. And the tip with elastic and binder clips around the neck, priceless. Thanks.
Such a beautiful masculine quilt ❤. I love the idea of the thrifted flannel shirts, and the warm minky backing! I'm Inspired now to make one for my husband 😊. Thank you so so much for your tutorials . I love all of your tips and tricks , and learned so much from you.❤
I often use the "Sleep On It Method." This is a strategy I used when working on my MAT degree and took it into my classes when I began teaching. It works. 🎶💐💖
I have collected several Plaid shirts from the thrift store. Thank goodness they are cotton fabric and not flannel! One day I will make them into a quilt. Last summer I did make a queen-size flannel quilt for someone that had 1,670 two inch squares. I dealt with the "wiggly" flannel by heavily starching the fabric.
I like the idea of the scripture squares. As always your quilt looks amazing. With the cost of fabric these days shopping at thrift stores is a great resource.
I am so glad you showed this video. I am making a flannel shirt quilt for my grandson and your idea of adding to add interfacing was the piece I missed. so I added it at the end and wow it was a big help . thanks
The quilt looks great, my 1st time see you put together a quilt from flannel shirts. My guess is the minky is the filler. If that's right, this should be the first time I have seen a quilt put together by you. My mom would have shipped the quilt out to have the filler put in it. It's great to see your video. I had to touch like button instead of smashing it.
Oh my goodness, I want to make one for my husband. Love how this turned out and glad for the construction tips. I really like the inspirational words as well. Great job!
Tracy, you are a breath of fresh air! Pool noodles...who'd a thunk it. And your clips! What a stroke of genius. I am ready to try free motion quilting again,
I'm pretty sure the shifty will come out in the wash! I've found that a lot of things I miss when I quilt disappear after washing. Or maybe it's old age and I just forget about the little goof ups by the time the quilt is dried. Don't you love that you can turn that Juki around and free motion quilt with it. Thanks for sharing another great tutorial.
You are absolutely right about the shifty going away after washing and drying✅ It just came out of the dryer and it looks even better than before I washed it❤️
You know what I love abt this quilt? It’s so satisfying to see you make the WHOLE THING in just ONE HOUR! 😉 🤣 So inspiring!!! (If only! 😆 😝) Yes, I think laying it face down was a good idea bc hvg a stretchy front and back, it wd hv been a nightmare to keep it as straight as you did, if it was the other way around. Good call!!! Now your gonna be like the cat that ate the canary, until you give it to him. 😁
Yes...only if it could all happen for real in 1 whole hour LOL🤣 Thank you for the validation of my decision on the way I layered it🩷. It's going to be so hard to wait til' Christmas...I just washed and dried it and it came out even better...can't wait❣️
I so enjoyed watching you make that quilt! Gonna try to do something similar with scripture. I will say, I started quilting when I was 19 years old (I’m 70 now)doing everything by hand. I didn’t have a sewing machine in those days. I have since evolved to using a sewing machine and I get so much more done. Thank you for all of the tips on sewing Minky for backing and binding. It’s giving me confidence to try those techniques. God bless and happy sewing.
I am working on such a quilt for my beloved mother-in-law. My FIL passed away last year. I don’t remember it. I was in hospital recovering from brain surgery. After rehabbed I am finally getting back into sewing. MIL gave all of flannel shirts and bottoms. I’m using them to make her a quilt I’m cutting as big as a block as I can. I will quilt in the valley. I did buy a plain by the yards flannel for the backing and sashing and any where else that needs it.
I love this quilt! I just bought some fabric with God's word sections similar to these and I am going to attempt to make a quilt similar to this one. Thank you for the inspiration.
This is a great quilt!! Your husband is going to be so happy to get it. You did a beautiful job and I enjoyed watching this quilt come together. I just love shirt quilts and flannel. It's going to be such a soft and snuggly quilt.
I made my hubby a flannel patchwork quilt from his old flannels. Backed it with thick fleece. He loves it. Wish i had thought to use stabilizer. Thanks! When i make me one, i will do this.
I love your quilt and especially with bible scripture sewn into it! Beautiful! Thank you for showing all your expertise in quilting. I have made quilts but have not quilted on my machine yet. You are teaching me things I needed to learn! :) I love my Jesus too!
First, I'm completely inspired by the scrappy flannel and I have the same inspirational fabric! Second, I could just hug you for the free motion necklace idea and will try that in a few days ❤️
Domestic machine quilting has it's place, However this quilt would have MOST definitely benefited from a longarm quilter. Please don't be afraid of using a longarm quilters expertise. You can look for a local quilter, and benefit yourself and the quilter. The quilt will come out straight on all sides and look very good. Bind it yourself for some savings. Use of shirt material is great and the word fabric gave the project a real boost. This made a great man's gift!
Oh Miss Tracy this quilt turned out so amazing. Love all of God’s inspirational quotes…and to match it with flannel and Minkie!! It couldn’t get any better than this one! 🥰🙏🥰 Mr. Hubby is going to love love love it. 🤗🤗
I like the idea of haven the words in all directions, so that way there is no right or wrong direction on the quilt. Just my honest opinion. ❤ loven the quilt.
I made a square rag quilt out of old jeans and flannel shirts. Also, pigs flying, s'mores, and camping flannel fabric were used. Some items from thrift stores. I have that very material of quotes to use for DIL for her t shirt quilt to be completed by her birthday next year.
Oh my goodness what a beautiful gift of love ❤ I'd give anything to receive a quilt like that. Your husband is gonna love it I'm sure!! Good job by the way 😊
So wonderful to see God's Word in that quilt! A warm, fuzzy collage...Well done Tracy!
Yes! I too love that God's Word is ALL over this quilt. It is so cozy too.❤️
So love your patterns and how you explain how to make them.
Love the verses but prefer all them going one direction.
My very first quilt was 100” square and every focal fabric was a memory jog of the favourite things for my sister and her husband. I called it Making Memories and when I gave it to them the other week (we won’t be together for Xmas) they were blown away! They loved it! I also learned so much making it! 🌻
This is a great idea. My husband just was baptized this spring. He’d love this!
Awe...yes...this would make a great gift for him❤️
I am working on ‘going away’ quilts for each of my grandsons. Hey Tracy that is awesome
For a man
This quilt is absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this. I can't wait to try one myself.
I hope I get him on camera too...will be fun for sure🎉
That is one beautiful quilt! Your husband will love it!
Thank you so much Christine! I can't wait to give it him❤️
I like the affirmation blocks switched up on their sides. This is a very nice quilt, I'm sure he will love it. Thanks for the tips about piecing different types of flannel.
Thanks Di❣️ It's going to take all I have not to give it to him early LOL🤣
Hi Di!
Why don’t you do longarm quilting since you make so many
P.S. I got a Juki for my birthday!
Woo hoo🎉💥🎉YAY❣️
Iove my Juki❤❤❤❤
I love this quilt! I love the inspirational words, and the fact that your husband loves them!! Thank you for this awesome tutorial!!
What a beautiful quilt. God’s word and minky wrapping you up. Couldn’t think of anything better. You rock!
Nice idea to do a flannel. Just an idea, 1or 2 extra shirts just for your strips. Unsure but might help with matching with the blocks.
Ok! This is my fav video so far!! Thank you for saying what you are thinking out loud! That is inspirational; i can almost believe I can do it when I hear you talk it through! Wonderful quilt. Thrifting the shirts? Brilliant!
I use a pink eraser to ckean my mats. It really gets a lot of fiber out of them. Dollar store to the rescue 😊
Your husband will enjoy this warm. Fluffy quilt. Lovely.
I can't wait to give it to him....I hope I can wait it out until Christmas haha🤣
What more can someone ask for? Full of comfort and warmth to wrap up with, filled with encouragement and wisdom, and made with love! LOVE THIS❤
I love lining a quilt with flannel, even without a minky back they have a wonderful weight. Maybe living in Texas has something to do with it - we don't have much need for heavy quilts!
I agree...it gives a wonderful "drape" to the quilt❤️
Your husband will love his quilt. Thanks for sharing your process and keeping me company while I made chicken soup. ❤

I love your quilt! ❤Great tips for the binding clips, minky backing, and flannel “batting”. Thanks!!!!
Thanks for tutorial. Will definitely try your clip “necklace.”

I subscribed when you mentioned Bible verses! I love quilts and quilting, but love that you are incorporating God into this quilt!! Made my Day!!

I had to go and order from Walmart the verses !! Wonderful Idea! Game changer stabilizing the flannel!! I am inspired.
Yay🎉❤️
Love this quilt
Find the “middle-ground area of straightness” Yes! I love this philosophy and the release from perfection
LOL🤣 So true though!!!!
I'm sitting here in a cold room (heated, but I'm still cold) watching you meander through the top and thinking how nice to climb underneath. I just love plaids, now I have to hurry and finish up the 2 quilts for Christmas and start one for my husband. Thank you for the inspiration.
Awesome project and all the details are so helpful, thank you 🙏🏼

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING Quilt I’m Excited to go thrift store shopping to find flannel shirts for this project…. Thank you so Very Much
I like thrifting scrubs for quilts. Lots of novelty prints.
Thank you for the idea❤️
I can’t wait to try the elastic and clips. The drag is always a problem. Thank you
You are MUCH younger than me 😅 my days on the floor are long gone!
You gave many helpful tips I can use for my projects. Thanks
Love how your mind works! Soooo creative! 🥰
I like the idea of the scripture squares. As always your quilt looks amazing. With the cost of fabric these days shopping at thrift stores is a great resource.
What a great idea for a man quilt!!!! And my husband would love the Bible verses too. What a fabulous quilt project!!!!! Good job!!!

Great video Traci, I use mostly men’s cotton shirts from the thrift store.❤️

Great idea about the words. I'm making my husband a blue jean quilt and I could use these in a few places.
You know what I love abt this quilt? It’s so satisfying to see you make the WHOLE THING in just ONE HOUR! 😉 🤣
So inspiring!!! (If only! 😆 😝)
Yes, I think laying it face down was a good idea bc hvg a stretchy front and back, it wd hv been a nightmare to keep it as straight as you did, if it was the other way around. Good call!!!

Girl you done good he is going to love it 💞
Thank you Nancy❤️
Love the flannel shirts, and I th8nk you’ve made me brave enough to try a minky backing.
We never need to apologize for the Bible 🙏
Right!!!
I made my hubby a flannel patchwork quilt from his old flannels. Backed it with thick fleece. He loves it. Wish i had thought to use stabilizer. Thanks! When i make me one, i will do this.
When my husband passed away I cut his shirts into 2 1/2” strips and made a king size quilt front and back. My family calls it the comfort quilt.
Love this Tracy!💕🧵
This is a definite favorite. Adding in the navy or black really ties it all together. Your Hubby is going to love it. Congratulations 😊
Wonderful quilt hope your hubby likes his quilt 😊
I can't wait to give it to him❣️
The little ones turned sideways looks great👍
Thanks...I like it too❣️
So lovely, nice to see a man's quilt, I've got to try this one for my son. Thank you for sharing x
I love your quilt and especially with bible scripture sewn into it! Beautiful! Thank you for showing all your expertise in quilting. I have made quilts but have not quilted on my machine yet. You are teaching me things I needed to learn! :) I love my Jesus too!
Amen❤️
Using your home made (elastic and binder clips) device made a big difference for you. I've got to make myself one.
Yes...it totally made a difference Arvetta✅ You definitely need one...I was always getting caught up in the front of my machine🤷🏻♀️
First, I'm completely inspired by the scrappy flannel and I have the same inspirational fabric! Second, I could just hug you for the free motion necklace idea and will try that in a few days ❤️

I like the idea of haven the words in all directions, so that way there is no right or wrong direction on the quilt. Just my honest opinion. ❤ loven the quilt.
Thank you Chrissy❣️
I made a square rag quilt out of old jeans and flannel shirts. Also, pigs flying, s'mores, and camping flannel fabric were used. Some items from thrift stores. I have that very material of quotes to use for DIL for her t shirt quilt to be completed by her birthday next year.
Love your quilt suspender necklace! Great idea❤
Right!!!! Great name hahaha🤣
Oh my goodness what a beautiful gift of love ❤ I'd give anything to receive a quilt like that. Your husband is gonna love it I'm sure!! Good job by the way 😊
Tracey did you cut the shirts in random pieces or precise ones. I'm confused on how to cut one up. Thank you!
Beautiful work. ❤
I lovvvvve it 😭
I have to say, while I love all the fancy quilting designs that are out there, I think the meander is still my favorite!
I totally agree!❤️
Awesome demo 👌
Thanks❣️
