This is my best phone ever… ❤ I miss this fancy colour stuff an themes wich my iphone sure doesn’t have in 2024. I’ll pull mine from the box the se days…. 😀
i had this phone years ago and i really miss the light at the bottom of it. basically i got angry and had a pen and my phone in the same hand, i was supposed to throw the pen, but the phone got thrown on a glass table that had a china plate on it, and the screen shattered and was unusable. the plate also got cracked in half the pen was okay...
Xperia U is an amazing phone: + Very cool multicolor bar ( especially night ) + Sharp screen + Good sound quality + Fast and smooth + Very good camera ............. The cons only is not support memory card
it was a good phone when i bought it 2 years ago, but android and its apps got heavier over time making it very slow... i advise against android now since it eats battery and ram for lunch... i got the nokia lumia 635 now, cheap quadcore phone with 4G with windows 8.1 which is a lot less heavier OS than android. if you do insist on getting a good cheap phone with android, then i recommend the moto g (2014 edition) but it wont have 4g
Dual core processor is for multitasking, it really doesn't affect the phone's speed much, for example, if you do 3 things at the same time, it will be faster than the one core processor
the last reckoning it was my first smartphone, it's the biggest pile of shit ever designed and made. always slow, even to make a phone call. the old phones made phone calls no problem, this pos struggles to even do that. the music player is utter garbage compared to the old ericsson/sony phone. the camera button? LOL which fuckwit designed that? upgrading the sony recommended operating system, turns the phone into a brick. did they test this "upgrade"? had to send phone back for repair to remove the upgrade. i will never buy another sony anything again, if they sell shit like this to people they will sell other shit as well. i still cannot believe they paid people to make this!! my review of this turd? don't buy a sony, buy a phone from a quality manufacturer, not one that sells shit off the back of it's used to mean quality SONY...
I had that phone for two years after one year it got so laggy that I couldn't receive calls bcuz it would freeze it was super laggy had a tiny screen a tiny amount of ram really shitty battery life bad camera don't buy this piece of shit and if u do don't update it to ICS because it can't handle it I now have a nexus 5 best phone ever
I'm thinking about getting this for my mom. She really only uses it as a phone so space doesn't matter and will like the pink bottom. I think it looks pretty cool with the light etc as well. Thanks for the review.
I've had this phone for 6 months. It's good value. There isn't anything really negative about it. Everything runs smoothly enough, and the build quality is good too.
I've gone from 200mb of internal storage to this phone, and it is a huge difference. I have no idea what people put on their phones to find 8g small. Don't use a phone as a music player, it will kill your battery as well as take up too much space. Music players are cheap. Or stream music from google music (you can get it in Canada too, just gotta do some searching;] ). As an owner of this phone for a few weeks I've had zero problems. The only thing that makes me sad is my wait for ICS!
It has 8GB sure, but most of the partitions are already have been used for the phone's applications and cache data. That leaves us with only 4GB for musics, videos and some other stuff. This, is according to phonearena and gsmarena anyway. Even on my SK17i, I already used 6.8GB out of 8GB SD card. Most of the space are used for musics and HD video recording. For someone like me, more space is crucial since I love to record important moments and snapping pictures.
This phone is an amazing phone for the price, around $200-$250 range. It even has a front facing camera which some higher end phones don't have. I would say the only negatives would be the smaller 3.5in screen and only 4gb internal memory with no sd card slot. The battery is also removable in the event the phone freezes.
Got this phone and i have it for a month now. Phone is fast and got no lags at all. Only consequence is the memory which is 8 gb and 4 gb user avail but when you are not a heavy gamer or hardcore music fan this will be a perfect device.
One V. It has an unibody aluminium frame, SD card slot, ImageSense with burst frames and fast camera start, shoots pictures while recording as well, SuperLCD2 like on One X etc.
I don't need to do that actually,I have rooted my phone and it is "wearing" CyanogenMod 9.1 that has the DSPManager (equalizer) and I can make it louder :)
Just picked one of these up last month in Australia at Dick Smith, been around everywhere in every shop and every mall in my area, NO covers or casings for it available except from online Ebay and ZERO of the removable caps at the store I bought it or anywhere else. All in all it's a good phone, just lack of accessory support bugs me.
got this phone today and i love it! my xperia arc s was stolen at work 2 weeks ago so i bought the u today as a replacement......the internet is definitely faster and more consistent than the arc s, it fits more comfortably in my hands, and it's £100 cheaper..oh, and it has a front camera so i can actually talk to someone on skype and they see me and i see them....was considering buying an iphone 4s 2nd hand for £300 from someone..i'm glad i didn't!
I can't decide whether to buy the Xperia U or the Xperia Ray. I like taking photos, but I dislike the fact that maybe (as it has a single-core processor) it may not have future software updates after 4.0. Which one do you think I should choose?
Ohh ahha that's alright :) Is it basically the same as the Xperia J? Because i think i'll get that instead as it looks basically the same and also has a memory card! Do you think that one is just about the same?
I'm looking to change my current SK17i phone actually. I don't know I just think that having an expandable slot is important for a smartphone these days. I think it's best to look for something better even if it means to increase my budget. Better buy something more worthy for your penny. That of course, depends on the user's preferences.
I am so glad to see Sony Xperia isnt phasing out the dedicated camera key, which samsung seems to be doing, its such an essential aspect of mobile phones.
Micro SD card slot was omitted from this product for two reasons; 1. It was required to retail below a specific price point (extra features = extra cost) 2. This device has USB OTG, which allows you to use full size USB memory to free the internal memory at any time. : )
The first thing you have to do when you get this phone is update. Updating the phone improved the performance, photo quality and HD video quality greatly. Best midrange phone for taking photos, recording videos, running heavy apps and gaming
Miro, Even though it has a 800Mhz processor, the memory is expandble up to 32gb. However this is not the case on the Xperia U, this is a major disadvantage.
Just brought this phone, its AMAZING n it impressed all my friends :D dont let the limited memory stop u from buying it, I download soo much games n apps n still got a generous space :)
it's cute but it's not for multi tasking I had this phone before, it was from my grandmother since 2013 and she gave it to me at 2017. It lasted a year. It's still good if you just need basic things like texting, calling, pictures and the music is good. I also took pictures on documents as reviewers so I think this is fine. It's cute. 2019
if u still want this phone, consider using usb otg to expand the memory. btw 4gb for media is enough with 2gb of phone memory. (considering previous year model lack in internal memory)
I've had this phone since oct 2012 and it works well for me, it will lag sometimes if you try to process to much or overload the system with too many commands, but it is one of the cheaper phones out there for what it does. If you want something that performs better then you'll have to be willing to spend the money
4GB memory is low but the phone is still worth picking up over nearly all other phones in it's priceclass. all games and apps I've tried so far run very smooth, audio is great, good screen, good buttons, etc. really a good buy!
Used the phone for 3 months!!! Love it!!! The the memory doesnt affect me and I have all the music I need in it without any problems!! Wouldnt recommend it to people with chubby fingers though!
same, giving a slight advantage to music xD....I want to buy a new phone among xperia, but I can't decide which....0.0 Did you finally choose xperia U?
I used to have one of these phones, it was pretty good, BUT, it would overheat badly when worked hard, especially watching TH-cam on it for a while, it would get hot by the menu buttons and go haywire. Eventually I got pissed off with the phone and stabbed a screwdriver straight through it! But still, I only paid a tenner for it, so no big loss. If you want a simple cheap stylish phone though and you don't watch much videos then the Xperia U is not a bad choice.
it actually has 6bg of internal memory, this may be an old video but the phone in stores now has 6GB internal. I'v researched this phone quite a bit and suggest it to anyone who wants a very powerful budget smart phone, to be honest it's better to get this than the more pricey upgrades as for the price you get loads while in the upgrades you get just a few more things. anyhow good video!
one question... can I easily upload the MP3 to the phone? Or there will be an apps like 'market' to buy a music... (like iPhone-we need to access iTunes to upload music from laptop to the phone..)
You dont mind loosing the 3d screen? Do you prefer a faster phone(running apps and games) with a fast and good camera? Then get the xperia U....but only if you need a large amount of storage
why so mad at the lack of sd card? i bought it two weeks ago and it's an awesome device, i've got 100 songs and 58 photos, 15 games and still i have 3,18 gb of free space, didn't need more space in my last iphone and i don't need it in my xperia u.
All I need is a full size SIM (Check), Quad-band HSPA+ (No Check) and a MicroSD card slot (No Check). The problem is the only phones I can find that suffice are low end.
Im getting this for my birthday, I think its worth it as although there is no SD card slot, the battery life is reasonably good, the camera is 5mp with a VGA front facing camera and video (forgot what quality) it also has (aparently) amazing music quality and goof internet browsing. It is also amazing value for money. I dont actually have the phone yet - all my info is off online reviews, but it looks good!!!
i have this phone. memory that you can actually use is UP To 4GB. my phone came with only 3.85GB - too little imo. if you don't download many apps, music, etc its fine, but if you do, you have to constantly keep deleting to make space.
I'd not go for this due to the "cap," effort. I get the feeling that it might start coming off way too easily. For that reason, I'm more tempted by the "E," or a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, both of which now run Jelly Bean. As for the keyboard, I tend to agree..which is why I'm pleased I've bought Swift Key for about £2.99 and which, apparently, once you've bought it, can be downloaded onto any future Android phone, which a person might buy, for free.
i know mate same with mine, i had mine stuck on pink. i had to try fit my nail in where it connects and rag it out, you have to apply the bottom cap a couple of times and remove it so it makes it loose and then it comes of easily. this is mainly because it's new i got mine week ago.
Do you guys know if U's screen is better than the Sola screen in terms of colour etc. ? Or is it basically the same screen than the U just a little bigger on the Sola. Also, simply, would you recommend the Sola over the U for just 15 pounds more with the sola not having a second camera ? Thanks A LOT!
you can put a on the go usb cord in it and use pen drives with it, the price is sooo cheap for a 1ghz dual core most phones with one are double the price
Bought this phone awhile ago, it works FAST and SMOOOTH :) Although it doesn't have Micro SD Card but still the best. I recommend you guys buying this phone. ;)
Sola is better with air touch technology , micro SD card , larger screen... U is better with battery (easy change a new one) , and multi colors bar . Multi colors bar is very cool , especially night
8gb. 2gb for OS (which you cannot touch). 2gb dedicated to apps (same as my galaxy s2- more then enough, and essential so the phone doesn't slow down after downloading a gb of apps like my friends Htc desire did) 4gb (or 3.8gb when i got the phone yday) - for media. If your 2gb holds all your music and you don't wish to use your phone to hold other stuff in the future (books, comics, tv series,)..then this is adequate. The phone was £145 in phones4u the other day. gone back up to £160 now
i reckon get the u from 3 for £150...if the internal storage of the u would be sufficient for your needs, then definitely the u..personally, i dont need excessive storage for music or videos - i have a dedicated player and my laptop for that...so for me, the best smartphone under £250 by far for me is the xperia u..i considered the htc xe from asda for £297 today as well...cos in the 3 shop that was like £380..
No, i have this phone and you do not need the internet, you just need to be in a good connected area as all phones d in order to send the message. If you are pay as you go then it will only cost you the message price.
Guys im currently using this phone ... & I recommend you don't buy this... Buy d Xperia C or something else cos this phone is giving me alot of issues..! First theres very little space... Secondly there's alot of lag once you upgrade to ICS(I recommend you don't!)... And currently it keeps switching off or restarting when ever I listen to songs... It just happens randomly! The only thing I like about this phone right now is the camera! :( And this phone is not ment for gaming! Up your budget and buy a better phone from Sony!
he isn't trolling anyone, the point is perfectly valid. under 4GB isn't really enough in the present day and age - and i have the phone so i can comment. adding a SD slot is neither complicated nor expensive. sony made a design mistake, simple. why don't you address the point being made rather than a tiny grammatical error.
Ahhh. My very first android phone! And now i own Sony Xperia Z1!
I love sony!
Soooo which phone do you own now ?
This is my best phone ever… ❤ I miss this fancy colour stuff an themes wich my iphone sure doesn’t have in 2024. I’ll pull mine from the box the se days…. 😀

you can put the white or black one on (2 caps will come with the box so dont have to worry

in my country it costs 175 euros, way cheaper than xperia S or T. you have 4 gb for personal stuff and 2 gb for apps. i think it's pretty neat.
if you mean the dots at the bottom of the screen those are the buttons to return home and options
My first touch screen phone...
Yes, it has a 5MP camera and holds up to 720p Video Recording
same, giving a slight advantage to music xD....I want to buy a new phone among xperia, but I can't decide which....0.0 Did you finally choose xperia U?

Eventually I got pissed off with the phone and stabbed a screwdriver straight through it!
But still, I only paid a tenner for it, so no big loss.
If you want a simple cheap stylish phone though and you don't watch much videos then the Xperia U is not a bad choice.
Get the Xperia SP. It is amazing and also has a big screen too and deacent camera of 8
Do you perform factory reset after the update? Smooth like butter IMO. ^^
Ordered. Can't wait to get it.
Sony stated on their website that 4.0 is coming to Xperia U sometime in Q3 2012.
Hi, what would you recommend between Sony xperia U, Motorola Motoluxe, HTC Desire C or LG Optimus L5/L7.
it actually has 6bg of internal memory, this may be an old video but the phone in stores now has 6GB internal. I'v researched this phone quite a bit and suggest it to anyone who wants a very powerful budget smart phone, to be honest it's better to get this than the more pricey upgrades as for the price you get loads while in the upgrades you get just a few more things. anyhow good video!
which combination will be unique and beautiful?
white & yellow / black & white/ black & pink ?
can I get the bottom caps separately?
one question... can I easily upload the MP3 to the phone?
Or there will be an apps like 'market' to buy a music...
(like iPhone-we need to access iTunes to upload music from laptop to the phone..)
The pictures were took in my hometown Varna in Bulgaria! That was shoking!! :D
It´s just one side that is stuck, the other one comes off with no problem.
but i will keep trying. Thanks for the tips!
I think you should take Ace 2, one of the things that is better with Ace 2 is that it have a microSD card slot
great review ..gonna buy this..sony all the way just for the music
btw are u french?
love that accent :)
You dont mind loosing the 3d screen? Do you prefer a faster phone(running apps and games) with a fast and good camera? Then get the xperia U....but only if you need a large amount of storage

i have this phone.
memory that you can actually use is UP To 4GB.
my phone came with only 3.85GB - too little imo.
if you don't download many apps, music, etc its fine, but if you do, you have to constantly keep deleting to make space.
just got the phone and its superfast for accessing games apps and the screen doesnt look too small actually go buy it if u have the money
Do you know if you can add more colours for the themes so the light bar lights up different colours for the theme and not just for the pictures ?
Best Phone..I am now upgraded it to ICS ..I am hoping JB for it ..But sony announced that JB is not coming to Xperia U .
I'd not go for this due to the "cap," effort.
I get the feeling that it might start coming off way too easily.
For that reason, I'm more tempted by the "E," or a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, both of which now run Jelly Bean.

i know mate same with mine, i had mine stuck on pink.

Hi George,
Actually it has 8GB Internal memory , out of which 2 GB is for Apps and 6 GB for the Medias.
Hope this helps.

Bought this phone awhile ago, it works FAST and SMOOOTH :) Although it doesn't have Micro SD Card but still the best. I recommend you guys buying this phone. ;)
Thanks, are apps going good on it?
Skye Rosina yes the xperia P is identical just 4"
Will it be possible to upgrade this phone yourself from 2.3 to 4.0?
Sola is better with air touch technology , micro SD card , larger screen...
U is better with battery (easy change a new one) , and multi colors bar . Multi colors bar is very cool , especially night
Mine wasn't easy to remove, I was scared to pull it hard...but once you do it it goes out really easy the next time...
I want to buy that phone, is it good? Because price is very low for components.
8gb.
2gb for OS (which you cannot touch).
2gb dedicated to apps (same as my galaxy s2- more then enough, and essential so the phone doesn't slow down after downloading a gb of apps like my friends Htc desire did)
4gb (or 3.8gb when i got the phone yday) - for media. If your 2gb holds all your music and you don't wish to use your phone to hold other stuff in the future (books, comics, tv series,)..then this is adequate.
The phone was £145 in phones4u the other day. gone back up to £160 now
If you men leaning the phone and fliping the screen, yes it supports motion.
If you live in england go to phones4U you can get the Xperia Arc S for the exact same pricing
It's Changeable and there are many caps with different colours. im using a black cap.
i reckon get the u from 3 for £150...if the internal storage of the u would be sufficient for your needs, then definitely the u..personally, i dont need excessive storage for music or videos - i have a dedicated player and my laptop for that...so for me, the best smartphone under £250 by far for me is the xperia u..i considered the htc xe from asda for £297 today as well...cos in the 3 shop that was like £380..
Boxy like an old Volvo! You sir, are awesome!
No, i have this phone and you do not need the internet, you just need to be in a good connected area as all phones d in order to send the message.
If you are pay as you go then it will only cost you the message price.
do games run well on this phone?..I'm planning to buy it! :D
And this phone is not ment for gaming! Up your budget and buy a better phone from Sony!
he isn't trolling anyone, the point is perfectly valid.
under 4GB isn't really enough in the present day and age - and i have the phone so i can comment. adding a SD slot is neither complicated nor expensive. sony made a design mistake, simple.
why don't you address the point being made rather than a tiny grammatical error.
wich phone do you prefer; the sony xperia u or the sony xperia miro ?
Miro or u or lg optimus l7?? Please please answer..i need a new mobile phone before my vacation!
