I do it a little bit different. I was taught by a martial artist back in the late 70s to hold my hand to the side.. using the technique with the stick between the fingers rotating , also at the same time my wrist and a waving in circular motion. Which allows the stick to rotate faster and more powerful. With more control
Let's remember that showmanship is invaluable! Not to be too ostentatious, but in time when most musicians just stand still most of the time, just a little bit of physical and visual flare and flavor can massively set the whole act apart.
@@CiaraDrums I use the same motion as you demonstrate. It's useful for strengthening small muscles and I switch between match and traditional by a similar method. Appreciate you. Cheers.
you are Beautiful. I've played professionally since I was 15 in 1968. I am now 70 this July. it was always fascinating to see a drummer twirl their sticks, and never figured it out. thank you very much for showing me the trick!! although I have Stage 4 cancer now, I still want to learn this before I leave this world.
Thank you for such a thoughtful comment 🙏🏻 I would love to know how you get on with learning this. Hope drumming can bring you joy when things are challenging ❤️
I genuinely thought they were like... Spinning the drumstick over fingers in between other fingers lol. I had no idea the stick just stays between your index of middle finger, so it doesn't actually do a 360 spin. You learn something new everyday
Thank you for the twirling lesson. I am a pro bass guitar player and we have set up our 5 year old grandson with a Ludwig pocket set. And I know he will enjoy this cool drummer twirling.
Thanks for the kind words! I have two daughters and whilst drummers can wear whatever they want I would like my girls to know that what matters most is your character and not what you look like ;)
Yeah i know what you mean, this video is so underrated. Yet, i always see those "lady's" that wear little clothing and play very basic beats but get thousands and thousands of likes.
Where's your next Gig, I'll come just to watch your skills. I've got the motion going slow, but I can't keep it centralised. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE ! I know. Love the video, cheers
Great tutorial! You're very, very good. Even though I've perfected my tricks over the years I've always refrained from using them on stage during gigs. I feel it's too much of a distraction for the audience and takes away from the music at hand. Not to mention, there is nothing more embarrassing than dropping a stick while unnecessarily showing off. I just stick to the basics, so to speak, and do the job. All due respect, just my opinion.😊
I am a drummer and can do this learnt this of my dad as he was, a fully professional drummer... As anybody heard of the star tones drums.. Trumpet.. Electerbox Norman. Harry.. John...
Are you perfectly balancing the stick with your hand/wrist while you twirl or do you grip it so it can’t slip/slide? I can only do it when it’s perfectly balanced and it takes like 4-5 twirls before it starts sliding :(. Wondering if it’s my grip that’s too firm or too loose or the position of my hand/wrist.
It’s easier to go counterclockwise, because you can actually throw it into motion forward instead of the way you are showing. Just saying. I’ve been doing this for 60 years, both hands.
Your opposite of that fake Ringo? Your a right handed drummer playing a left handed kit? He is a left handed drummer trying to play a right handed kit.
I taught myself to go the other direction with both hands and I'm now trying this way. My fingers want to revert to how I've done it for so long but I'm gonna keep trying! Also, thanks for showing it this way, from your perspective. It makes SOOOOOOO much more sense than others showing it by trying to mirror looking at them (if that makes sense?) Yes!! I think I twirl the other way to most?!

You still with us? 😢
I guess I have no excuse to not learn this with such a good explanation.
Ahhh glad it was helpful
ok this is so difficult!! idk why i’ve tried this like 20 times!!

First off beautiful blues 💙 and rad I'm a guitarist and I've always wanted to know the mechanics thanks! Keep up the Rock sister!
*Ella♥*
So when you see a drummer doing this, they are not really spinning the stick. It is just an optical delusion. LOL
I know!! I couldn’t believe it when I found out
and now we know ❤️🇨🇦
Woop 🥳
Very cool! Awesome tutorial! As long as you don’t drop it or poke your eye 💜💜💜
Absolutely!!
Thank u love ❤💚
Okay the Drummers from the south are the best look it up Sonny Emory we grew up with the Best in the world I'm a Musician professionally from Atlanta

The stick always move towards my finger tips, how do you fix these problem?stay healthy
Very good nice Lady. Pretty and smart. Like this combination. 😂👍
Its so cool! Thx for tutorial and u look like Skylar from breaking bad
Wow that's quite a lot of Manhattan drum sticks in the background 😂😊
Thank you for actually being a really talented drummer and not one of those "lady's" that dress skimpy for views. You're truly amazing!!!

No idea when my next gig is - something I’m going to change next year. But right now I have a full schedule of lessons and camps :)
Omg my finger gamers gotta improve after an hour of this this😢
Thank you for this I can do it a little bit so thank you so much 😮😊🥹

Oh totally :) I don’t do them that much anymore, just a bit of fun really ;)
My new time filler waiting at the traffic lights or in a traffic jam
Thank you 🙂

I have a good grip with my fingers so it doesn’t slip :)

Nice one!!! Wish I could do it the other way!! 😅 but I don’t think I can! Need to practice ;)
And all these years I've been doing it the hard way😅
Your opposite of that fake Ringo? Your a right handed drummer playing a left handed kit? He is a left handed drummer trying to play a right handed kit.
Nah I just have two sets of hihats ;) I’m right handed and play a right handed kit
Now I'm know ... I'm stupid hehe
guys wait i learned it in the other direction help-
A 6 year old can learn that twirl in about a minute
shoot pin spining technics came in handy for me
How do I keep it from going up because I manage to do 1 twirl and it slowly goes up my fingers and just leaves my hand 😅😅
It is definitely tricky to keep it in the centre but is the stick right at the base of your fingers? This has helped me
I have a feeling you are an accomplished drummer too... but I viewed this vid several times just to see your face.
Haha thanks
Thanks for pointing out how humongous my hands look 🥲
Got the same sticks and they look like 7a in my hands
🤣 maybe it’s my hands that look stupidly small?!
Ciara I tried but I poked my eyeball out! it's, ok doc says stitches can come out next week. more how twos plez
🤣🤣🤣 I may have done that too James!!
So what is the purpose of stick twirling? Lol does make you drum and sound better. Or is it just to show boat?
Read the title ;) just a bit of fun
Is the stick actually moving around your finger? Or does it just appear to.
It just appears that way :) it’s an illusion
muchas gracias por compartirlo!!! thank you so much, i'm learning to play drums and it's really kinda hard
You can do it!
I done that a little bit. But very good
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
sweetlady when you pink
🥁👍👊🤘🔥🤘🤘🤘
EXCELLENT . THANKS YOU SO MUCH 🤩🤩🤩🤘🤘🤘❤❤🙏😇
You're welcome 😊
👍🏼👏🏻✌️🙏🏻
😂 I just hit myself in the eye!!
Good job
My new time filler at the red
Damn, I like the way she can manipulate her fingers.
🤣
Yessssss thanks you so much for that side to side im in the process oof wiggling
You got this!
I go the other direction from you and I have always loved using this trick when playing fills into crash and back to main beat.
Nice!!!

Almost gotcha
Hell that looks like cheating. I always thought the stick actually twirled around your index finger lol.
I know, me too!! 😱
@@CiaraDrums Thank you for the video lesson.
Kidding me?
I it my sister
Nice 💪
If you can’t play a kit what’s the sense
Exactly ;) read the title
Cool
Cool! :)
It's a revelation. I had it wrong for so long
Ahh apparently I’m spinning it the opposite way to most 😅🙈
At full speed it looks like the stick rotates around the index finger. The drummers union will be so upset
Sssh! Don’t tell them 😉😆
Only person to show this , I will now practice
Let me know how it goes
I like how she edged that stick
🤣🤣🤣
🎉🎉
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle
🤣
This really helps! Pointing out how you move your indexfinger in circles did it for me :D
Thank you
🙌🏻🙏🏻👍🏻
Awesome
Thanks!
I’ve played since I was 5. I’m 71. I don’t want to twirl. Time better spent practicing drum techniques.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.🥁🎶
FINALLY! A stick trick I am actually able to do!!!
