I live in California; thanks for acknowledging there are alternatives to cycling specific apparel - while firmly persuading a quality bib is worthwhile.
I'm in Louisville, KY and been enjoying your content for a while now. My wife is getting into gravel with me so we watched this together. Just trying to help her feel prepared. Keep up the great content!
Glad to have someone out there giving people tips without talking down to the audience or doling out unbreakable "rules". Thanks for the vids! - Matt in Los Angeles
Having the right attitude goes along way with running what you got. Easy to quit and go home when it's snowing here in Nevada and you're running 20 year old clothing. Love your videos Dustin.
what I liked about this video is a professional cyclist encouraging new cyclist to get out there and join the gang, before gravel cycling i was too shy to try more competitive cycling. Thank you for welcoming us. Thank you so much for your content and attitude. I Live in Vermont
Whatup Dustin! From Seattle and I loved the part about using what you got when it comes to cycling kit, nowadays I'm always on the lookout for things that can work on and off the bike.
Fave part is your "there is no wrong way to do it...just do it" attitude! Routes are often a missing part in most beginner's journeys into gravel. Sometimes there's a local FB page that dishes good info. Your local bike shop is another place to ask. Here in Phoenix Arizona we have a shop that leads a ride every Sunday. Well pre-covid they did.
Big John watching from Tucson Arizona. Temperature in the 60s with spring wind here but can see fresh snow on the mountain out the window. Great gravel ride up the control road on the back of Mount Lemmon (Mount Lemmon Gravel Grinder). Knee surgery yesterday so recovering and enjoying rewatching some of your TH-cams again, fresh content is always great.
San Diego, California. You have been one of my fave cycling content creators lately. You hit the nail on the head. My first ride over 5 miles I had a mechanical and no tool and was left stranded. Luckily a good samaritan stopped and help. Thanks!
Dobbs Ferry, New York. I liked the overall vibe of this post: If you don’t have everything that you feel you need to get going, don’t stress on it too much, as you ride more these things work themselves out.
DKlein! I am a huge fan from ATL, Georgia! Gravel riding is what got me into cycling as a hobby. Was a commuter cyclist but became interested in going off-road. Got my first Trek ALR 4 and LOVE it!
I live in Western WA and give really similar advice to my buddies who are getting into road cycling and gravel riding. From my experience, people who are transitioning from bike commuter mindset to longer gravel or road outings really need to be convinced that they need to eat. Some people just aren't in tune with how important nutrition is in endurance activities - and find our the hard way. On the mechanical side, lately I've been spending a lot of time with buds in advance of upcoming rides going through this is how you patch a tire" or "tubeless 101" drills. These nutrition and preparedness list videos may seem redundant or dull to experienced types but they're fun, helpful fodder for getting people ready and feeling confident to get out there. Props.
Love the comment on having the right mindset. Its amazing what you can set out to do if you keep a steady head during the sesh. Fellow PNW here from Vancouver!
New follower from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania here! Love your videos, they are so informative, having a good attitude towards adventure is what I love about cycling. Thanks for sharing!
I like how you reminded me on how unprepared I am with tools and potential mechanical issues - thanks for getting my ass in gear! Cheers from San Diego.
Hey Dustin! I live in Portland and have been biking as a daily commuter for over half a decade. I especially liked this video because of how helpful these resources are to beginner cyclists! (like myself) Love your vids! Keep beastin it!
Excellent episode Dustin! Watching from Tualatin, OR. Rode 25 miles of gravel out of Amity yesterday and my wife definitely experienced the highs ands lows you mention during #5, but she powered through it with a positive attitude!
Hello from South Texas Dustin. "Work with what you have" love this and I use the drink before your thirsty all the time with my buddies. Best Gravel started advice I've seen on the Tube and definitely sharing on my socials. I like riding with civis over my kit and will alternate between clips and flats depending if there's pub stops on the way.
Wuz up player i am from Chicago and just got into biking last year and your channel help me out tremendously. I am riding a Priority Apollo gravel, Aluminum frame, carbon fork. wtb pure seat, carbon seat post, 700c by 40 wtb byways with tubes, have not went tubeless yet. Tell the player Ron i said WUZZZZZ UUUUUUP.
So glad I discovered your channel a couple months ago. Love the adventure crew, especially Ron -- you guys are hilarious and silly and ridiculous in the best way. Love seeing whatever you put in your tortilla wrap each ride lol. Glad you mentioned 'wear what ya got' as a full cycling specific outfit is pretty pricey. Your adventures always make us want to get out and ride! From Humboldt County, Northern California.
Hey Dustin. PNW for sure. Washington and North Idaho, but grew up in P town. Love your videos, especially since I used to ride Sauvie Island, Counsil Crest, and German Town Rd all the time. Keep up the inspiration.
OHIO! 10/10 vid. I loved all of the options you gave for clothes. Sometimes cycling can feel exclusive and that “you need to buy real cycling clothes” but I appreciate you are supportive of all financial levels and provided alternatives to all clothing items.
A newbie bicicleta owner in South San Diego , CA and your info is keeping me stoked ! I really watch your adventures for the snacks- not gonna lie! and the Best soundtracks and rides .. cant wait to go ride with the trees In PNW soon! Gracias!
Howdy from Denver, Colorado. Appreciate the advice. My buddies and I are planning a multi-day road/gravel adventure from Taos to Denver this summer. I’ll share this with my riding partner who is newer to adventure cycling.
Living in Vancouver, BC - I'm definitely downloading that weather app, and thought the list you provided on repair kits super helpful. I always thiiink I have the right tools for getting out of a breakdown, but I'm never certain.
Davao, Philippines! I don't really mind not winning but I really like your content , built up my gravel bike and started rambling. More power and Godbless DK!
Thank for this video! I loved the part about apparel, when I first started riding; I would bring too much clothing because it was cold, not thinking I’d warm up during the ride. I live in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Love your videos and all your Chrome gear too, I’ve got a couple of the pieces, love the handlebar bag! Just upgraded to a Salsa Warbird and am excited to start riding more gravel. Cheers homie!
This is some top level information sharing. so acute and simple. I hope that this video is seen by anyone who wants to ride a bike often. thanks so much for producing this and at the level of accessibility you share it.
Hey Dustin! I enjoyed how you kept the video simple, especially for beginners. Gives enough info to get people out there to have a sweet time! Greetings from Minnesota
From Chicago, I'm new to gravel riding and this really helps because planning a ride from the city to the burbs just to find gravel is a task in itself
Hop on the Metra so you’re no slogging through the west side then head south to DesPlaines River trail and I&M Canal trail. Dustin gave a shoutout to Out Our Front Door last episode, check out their website. I looked a couple days ago and they have some great routes available to anyone as well as Guided Gravel Group Galavants (for alliteration’s sake, sorry) out of the city and into the surrounding area. Cheers from Westmont!
Super helpful vid. I've only ever ridden fixed gear bikes around town and I'm currently building up my first gravel bike that I'm hoping to take out starting this summer. It's my first time building a bike with gears and tubeless tires! I'm in Portland, OR too - hope to see you out on those trail, Dustin!
Loved the video Dustin. Just got my first gravel bike a month ago. Ready for some adventures! Thanks for the primer - great tips. It was a great overview of how to prepare for a ride!

STL...favorite part is the well thought out content with excellent sound and light. Nice work! 👌
There's no such thing as bad weather, just poor preparation. It's in the art of working with what you've got! San Diego :)
Coming from Denver, CO and new to gravel! Much appreciate the entertainment throughout the whole video. Excited for my new gravel bike to arrive!
I'm in Louisville, KY and been enjoying your content for a while now. My wife is getting into gravel with me so we watched this together. Just trying to help her feel prepared. Keep up the great content!

I'm in Louisiana, land of the flat terrain and slow inclines. I love the energy and quirkiness. Videos are always great
