3:13 I am a criminologist, Even the best statistical models made by PhDs who have dedicated their lives to studying deviant behaviors miss things and it ends in situations like this. I have worked on validating prison classification and pre trial detention tools and you simply cannot account for everything. Even the best models have error rates.
You did everything you could, this was not your fault. You did right by them.

I rescued my little guinea pig on the bike path on an afternoon run. He is now 3+ years old and extremely healthy according to his doctor. He gets cuddles every morning and every evening. He is always looking pets from anyone walking by his cage. Extremely friendly little guy.

Scotty you didn't do anything wrong. We never know how people are exactly or how the live. They looked like two normal people wanting to adopt Broccoli and Carrot. You did not do a single thing wrong. I hope you don't get discouraged and don't stop doing what your so great at because of these two people. Sending hugs to you. ❤

Whenever someone 'complains' about how 'difficult' it is to meet adoption criteria for any animal, I'm going to give them this cautionary tale as an example. Don't beat yourself up Scotty, you could never have foreseen this outcome.

I remember seeing that video when it first came out. The way Carol and her husband held your fosters showed love. I don’t think there were any signs you missed. Whether they were animal hoarders at the time or not, they showed no outward indication of anything suspicious. We can’t read minds or hearts. You did everything right, Scotty.

Hoarding is a mental health issue. I think it's likely that these people were excellent piggy parents at first and developed mental health issues later. To me, the photos you showed are sufficient evidence that the boys' new home was a happy one at first. I think their hearts were in the right place and they just lost the ability to provide the attention and care that pets need. That's not your fault, Scotty. It's tragic, but you had no way to predict that it would happen. I hope the surviving animals find forever homes with people who are able to give them the attention and care they need, and I hope these people get the help they need for their mental health issues.

Crazy days! On Friday a request arrived in Saxonia, Germany. they need help with 50 guinea pigs, the owner went to the asylum. Turned out to be a chaos of unneutered boars with pregnant sows, sick.and weary, a total of 160 ( !) . In a campaign they found foster homes for all! Brought tears to my eyes.

Scotty, my friend, I have only a few words to offer at this point! YOU did nothing wrong, NOTHING. If I were a guinea pig, I would want you as my guardian and perhaps my papa. Hoarding is a sickness. And when you do not have an opportunity to go to that hoarders place, how can you tell. You can't. Just from watching the second video, I would have given them the boys.
I pray they are going to get the help they need. And I pray and cry for the lost animals. I don't know, maybe we should do like Pit Bulls and Paroles. They make home visits but that just seems so intrusive. I am just going to keep hounding the pet stores and keep loving my girls. I wish I knew the answer. Love to you, Saskia, Val, Ann and all my piggie friends I have made.

This was a very extreme case, the responsibility isn’t on anyone else but these two people.
Scotty you helped me grow from an ignorant mum who didn’t do her homework when getting her son his piggies. Through you I learned what I needed to, through those you work with I learned more and more. I’m still learning, still doing my best and still seeking you guys for more and more knowledge, encouragement and joy.
This horrendous situation does need airtime, it does need to be talked about. But you do not deserve to be feeling any kind of guilt or responsibility for what these two people chose to do. It’s theirs to own.

I’d hazard a guess that these people’s mental illness presented itself after the adoption. Things probably started off fine and with the best intentions but spiraled out of control. Unfortunately, there’s no way you could have (or should have) seen this. You shouldn’t take any responsibility for this as you had no reason to expect this result. You give us the best example of how to take care of piggies and you’ve facilitated so many successful adoptions. Keep your eyes on your successes and positivity look forward to the future. ❤️🐾

A lot can change in 4 years! It’s shocking to see their sweet posts about their piggies and your fostering services, to then end like this. They seemed, initially at least, to put me as an adopter to shame. This reminds me of how a narcissist will initially come off as so charming. They clearly were struggling with hoarding disorder and who knows what else. I hope the surviving victims and the human perpetrators can have better lives after all this. Thank you for being so kind.

  • @ella4108
    @ella4108 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Based on my understanding of the psychology of Animal Hoarding, it's likely they did care for them which is usually a reliable way to assess someone's caretaking abilities. But these were individuals with complicated mental disorders that those poor piggies were caught in the crossfire. It might bring you peace to understand how humans who seem to love animals get to this point. And it is possible the animal hoarders were doing better when you met them and then relapsed. No matter what, this is not on you. You are a wonderful advocate for piggies. I have yet to get piggies because of the work and education you've put into this channel. I refuse to get them until I feel completely prepared and knowledgeable. For every Carol, I bet there is a bunch more like me who are learning to care of guinea pigs the way they deserve through your channel. Thank you for all you do for these precious furry potatoes and their caretakers. ❤

It’s easy to try to cover up what happened to Carrot and Broccoli. But YOU have integrity. We don’t get it right 100% of the time in the rescue world. We’ve seen people who we think are great owners surrender their pigs later malnourished and sick. We can screen to the high heavens, and people will be able to convince you that they’re in it for the long haul. You ALWAYS do your part, with your own little “rescue” as well as the way you handle adopters at LAGPR. I’m PROUD to call you my friend, and one of my partners in rescue. Lots of love to you. ❤❤

Pets like guinea pigs give their owners unconditional love and yet some owners can mistreat them. So sad. "Don't Shop, Adopt" is a great slogan, we should all do that. Pet Shops should only sell pet products not live animals due to so many pets out there that desperately need rescued and adopted.

Scotty, you didn't miss anything. I agree with other commenters that the hoarding probably came later. The boys really did look happy and well cared for at first. It's very possible that this couple loved having their piggies and decided to adopt more... Then more... And before they knew it, they had too many. I recognize this in myself, so i have turned down taking in more piggies, as much as i really want to "save" them all

Scotty, I’m so sorry for this horrible situation. My heart is breaking for you and your piggies. Unfortunately, we don’t have the ability to foresee the future or read the hearts of others. Trust me, you are so generous with your time and love and my piggies and I (along with many others) have truly benefited from you. I know this is small comfort while you’re dealing with this situation, but you are not to blame. You were honorable, they were not.

I totally remember this video when you posted it, now that that you show it again in this video. Wow, I am so sorry, Scottie! How could you have known?! You were doing the best with the information you had at the time. How heartbreaking.

Oh Scotty, you didn't do anything and you can't predict how the effects of the hoarding mental illness will get, the severity. I talked to my sister after this happened who had experience with mental illness and in hoarding situations with rescues, and the illness is hidden well, until it gets to an extreme. Scotty, you always say, look to the good in all the horrible situations and maybe with this situation, more people, will be looking out on their neighbors and making sure they are all right and that their pets are too and then can avoid another situation like this.

Scotty i dont think you should be too hard on yourself. There are so many horrible people who will pretend to have everything and im sure youre not the only person they decieved.
You thought your boys were going to a loving home and had the best intentions. Whats important is the vegas hoarding situation got attention and less people are going to be getting away with it.

Scotty, please, please, please don't blame yourself. You didn't miss anything. People change. You can't forsee that. I believe everything happens for a reason. I truly believe these boys chose to give their lives to get you involved. I believe we are allowed to view our lives before we take our current assessment. Why don't animals get the same? I believe it is. So sleep easy knowing they're now with my, and so many other's herds on the other side. And I truly believe they chose to go to help spread awareness.
My local shelter just took in over 100 from a hoarder in Colorado the day after yours happened. It's not just you. She let that couple adopt a couple of little girls a few years ago, and I'm the one that traveled to meet them. I was a part of that. I get where you're coming from. I hope you can find some peace in my beliefs. We love you for who you are, and what you do. I actually for years now, am the Idaho version of you. I found your channel shortly after starting, and thanks to you, I have been able to do what I do better.

Don't blame yourself or question if there's something you could have done. You take such good care of so many piggies and despite how careful anyone is, you can never truly know who someone is in their own home unless that's what they want to show you. Also, maybe everything was fine when you met them and someone developed a mental health problem or had a medical incident. It's ok. You're a great guy and none of that was your fault.

Omgsh I'm so sorry to hear the horrible news... That was truly upsetting, especially for you Scott. On a positive note tho as you wanted to hear... I have adopted my two piggies yrs ago that were just left in a storage room at a damn big pet store (I won't mention the name) and after I brought them home for my little boy he lit up like a Christmas tree filled with joy! After that moment they have become apart of our little family. An also a few months ago I was visiting my uncle and he had a stray cat named Garfield that didn't have a home and they couldn't really take care of him. My son and I loved him right away and we took the cat home in the truck... when we arrived at the house, one of my other family members told me we couldn't keep him and so my uncle had to take him back... once he stopped at the end of our road at a stop sign the cat just jumped out of the window of his truck and ran all the way back here with us!! lol crazy huh! He hasn't left ever since and btw he's sleeping on my bed, super cute! Keep your chin up Scotty! Your doing the best you can do for those lovely babies! Don't ever stop!

Maybe ask how many animals they currently have. This was a terrible situation. It's normal to process what happened and look for red flags, but you're not an investigator, and you had good intentions to find them a family. You do a lot of good, so let it go, and keep doing what you're doing.

Oh Scotty I feel for you 😢you did everything right, no one could have seen this coming. You did everything right the same as any rescue rehoming animals, they lied, they did wrong, they deceived you. Sadly some humans can be awful, there’s nothing more you can do you do your best and check things out properly.

Paw prayers from all of us in Wisconsin Scotty.
I get it I would be blaming myself too, but it is not your fault and I know some of the guinea pigs I’ve adopted out have ended up coming back to me in worse shape. And I felt terrible. It’s OK to cry and feel terrible for a while. Then , dry your tears, wash your face, and get back up and help some more piggies. ❤

No blame on you, Scott. You can't control what others do especially when they are out of state. You gave your fosters to them out of good faith and that's all you could have done. Please don't beat yourself up. I have a positive story. My 8 year old Pip who is a Himalayan gives me kisses especially when he's on my stomach. He's such a sweetheart that he even coos. God bless you and all the rescues.❤🐹

I know it’s hard but you must remember that it is NOT your fault. You care so much, you did all the right things. You screened and they appeared to be good and maybe they were at the time …….. just remember to keep doing your best and lots of Guinea pigs will have happy ending because of you. I work in place were I get to educate many people about Guinea pigs and that it part in thanks to you because you are someone that taught me a lot. I even tell some of them to check out your channel. Love you, keep up the good work.

Scotty, I worked at an animal shelter for four years and this was always my worst fear. I had to leave sheltering, because the prospect of sending an innocent life to its doom was too scary. I'm a glass-half-empty kind of person.
