- A look at Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, NJ, before its restoration. This former home to the New York Black Yankees of baseball's Negro League had become a ruin. The stadium's history and a personal story is shared by Brian Lopinto of The Friends of Hinchliffe Stadium, which was key to the stadium's renovation and reopening in May 2023. The 10,000-capacity, horseshoe style stadium was also once used by three Paterson football teams. The stadium was later used by Paterson public schools and shut down in 1997 until its 2023 renovation.

I don't live in N.J. anymore. I was just there and very disappointed in some of the areas. It would be great to see it restored but if expected to generate public interest in events the area would have to acceptable for safety, parking spaces etc.
@@carlkaskie9549 The grand opening ceremony was held yesterday at newly renovated hinchcliff stadium it’s beautiful and new huge parking garage connected to stadium for parking it rained today so Sunday will be held tomorrow with special guests hosting it 😊

In the 70s I attended a baseball game there between ABC news team vs. the Mayor and staff of Paterson. I met Storm Field that day. I hope one day to be able to attend an awesome event there once again. It’s been wasted space for way too long. What you’re doing is all good!

Yes the grand opening was held on Friday and ribbon cutting the stadium is beautiful there is a lot of videos on TH-cam if you type hinchcliff stadium you will see news on the grand opening and first baseball games by Eastside High School and on Sunday the New Jersey jackals played against the Sussex miners and won this weekend the stadium is beautiful 😊
remember having gym class there in the 70s from p.s# 5 great video also blue and gold games held there and kennedy high football games sad to see it in this condition

I saw two high school football games between North Bergen and Paterson Kennedy at Hinchliffe Stadium. In 1988, North Bergen defeated Paterson Kennedy, 14-13, to win the NJSIAA North Jersey Group 4 Section 1 State Championship. In 1991, North Bergen defeated Paterson Kennedy, 9-7, in the first round of the state playoffs. In 1991, it was obvious that Hinchliffe Stadium had seen better days as one side of the stands was condemned and all the fans had to sit on one side. If someone had cared back then, maybe Honchliffe Stadium wouldn't be in the shape that it's in today.

I was able to step on this field when I was a kid... It is an absolute shame it is in the condition it is today. Hopefully it can be restored. Pro Athletes should look at investing in this as a whole. There is so many possibilities that could take place in this space.

I had my best games there i started playing there when i was a kid playing P.I.M.F.L. My first team i was with was Trip Trojans our first game was KFC lol....2 yrs. later off to Eastside to play for the Ghost.

I used to love the battle of the bands. EHS and JFK. Those days were priceless. Only thing I used to hate were those itchy behind bleachers. Soon as the game was over your butt cheeks start itching. 🤣🤣
