I love these fish so much. They are so intelligent and gentle (to humans) You can literally point your finger and they will go in the direction you’re indicating, like dogs. So smart. They are very important to the environment too. I hope they stay protected forever.

Goliath groupers are generally docile. Some will even let you pet them, if you've ever thought about petting a fish.

It's crazy how they look like later versions of the Coelacanth, they just lack the boned fin structure and the jaw structure. They have similar bodies.
One of my goals in life, as a Paleo- enthusiast is to swim alongside a live Coelacanth. I cannot begin to describe how much I admire ancient life. And to see one organism still virtually unchanged since its birth in the middle Devonian is awe inspiring.
Beautiful fish. I hope the ykeep them off the fishing lists. I used to catch normal grouper in Florida in the 80s as a teen. Ones like 29 lbs and 37 lbs. Nothing like the Goliath.
Grouper are tasty, I only ever had grouper once as a kid but I remember the taste.
Those are some big fish. It must be quite and experience swimming with them.
Try reeling one of them suckers in it's like a Volkswagen.
I dived with a similar species in the Red Sea. They look at you as if they’re wondering if you’ll fit.

Honestly these things are scarier than sharks to me lol.
You shouldn't be scared or either, unfortunately groupers are getting rarer, I used to see them all the time 20 years ago, I haven't seen one in 2 years now. I wish people would stop killing them. Also whales, or taking them out the ocean as babies, away from their mothers to spend decades in a tank for humans to gawp at.

That is one good camera you guys have.
I like that shipwrecks end up housing life for sea creatures overtime. Kind of like discovering ancient ruins that nature has taken over.
I often go spearfishing and meet them sometimes but i could never shoot one of them because they are such a magnificent animals and i would rather sit and stare at it while it swims by than shoot it. I am usually happy with a much smaller fish around 3kg which is enough for me to take home and eat so shooting such a magnificent fish is an overkill and out of question. We need to respect the seas and nature around the globe as human ignorance and greed is thriving these days and corporations would pull it as far as they can't get away with it in order to make profit on the expense of the fish and causing environmental disasters. It will be too late before they realize how much damage they have done.

if you're come to Labuan there is an old grouper near the buoy. been there for a long time and I suspect it weight around 5 ton. the mouth can swallow one mini cooper for sure...

Went spear fishing with a bud one time and a massive grouper came outta the blue and snagged our catch, ripped the spear's rope too!

check this out, there is a guy I heard tell a story working on an oil rig & having to use underground toilets. One day he want down to use one & he sad there was an eye the size of a dinner plate just looking right at him,. I think it was in the actual bubble chamber. When they went back to look at film it was a Huge Goliath grouper. In the Deep night, A grouper w eye the size of dinner plate. He dont care what u look like, just whether u can fit in his mouth or not..
