    It took me so long to try DCC, because on paper, I shouldn't love it as much as I do. Fantasy isn't my genre, and D&D is a game I've never enjoyed (I've played all editions except 4th & never liked it). This isn't even the type of gaming I like, normally. I like heavy character & roleplay stuff. Yet, somehow, this just hits a marvelous, magical note. I've had so much fun running it for friends.
    I actually love the funky dice. I know it can be a pain to get them sometimes, but I do like them. I use them for lots of other stuff now, too.

      Yeah DCC is really it's own monster. I love how wacky and over the top it is!
      And yep... I now use the funky dice for lots of other games too.

    To be honest I bought the DCC starter kit. It arrived and was placed on my shelf and is now collecting dust. The size of the rule book kind of intimidated me. I will make the effort to dust it off and give it an honest read. Thanks for the video

    Great video -- I came into the hobby via 5e and DCC showed me that there was something very different and more my speed out there. It's a great system.

    All hail the Old School Renaissance! Our group plays Old School Essentials now and we are hooked. Keep up the great work my dude!

    Oof. Sorry to hear about the back injury, believe me I know what that's like. Mine required surgery... and then 2 years later it pretty much retired me. I wish you the best of luck, mate!!

    DCC is a retroclone of 3rd edition, with special attention to Appendix N of the original white box set. It says it right in the preface of the book bro.

    I played a game of DCC at my local game store at an "experimental RPG" event. I enjoyed it but the complaint I heard from other people was that the magic system, while fun, was "broken", ie a wrong die roll could wipe out your party. That seems to turn people away.

    I hope you feel better - back injuries are no fun.
    The odd dice did put me off but I like the magic rules.

    Man, I love DCC ^^ only thing that bugs me is the "strange" dice. But the ideas, attitude, art, rules... everything in DCC is amazing.

    Happy to see you back, Rob! As someone who knows exactly what these kinds of back injuries are like, I hope you're recovering well and get completely better soon, man. Don't overdo it! Take care of yourself :-)

    Rob when you get to where you can, try out a foam roller. I hurt my back working in a factory. I use it all the time and I cannot recommend it enough! I hope it heals up dude, it's awful to live with a messed up back!

      @@AdventuresWithDice You can get a foam roller at Walmart in the exercise section more than likely. It's helped me with my back tremendously

    The funny thing is that I love reading DCC and think many of the rules tweaks are cool, but we find it pretty clunky in play. Just way too slow with too many charts. And once you play it a few times, the critical charts, etc. get a bit stale. So we went back to OSE with a few DCC elements added. I do love the extra funky dice & have incorporated those into my other RPGs. The dice chain is awesome!

    DCC is awesome, I like D&D and Dungeon World. But there's a new game system that combines all 3 that I love called D100 Dungeon by Martin Knight!

    Two things would have to happen for me to run DCC RPG again. They need to split their rulebooks up so they aren't so clumsy and difficult to reference. The worst though, is their d20 initiative system. Like all d20 games, 3e - 5e, its clunky and difficult to track.

    • @AdventuresWithDice
      @AdventuresWithDice  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      To be honest my favorite initiative is old school where one side acts then the other side. Seems to make things run smoothly imo.

    • @midnightgreen8319
      @midnightgreen8319 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You could easily do d6 individual or group initiative

    • @shadowspawn283
      @shadowspawn283 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@midnightgreen8319 That does cause issues with the fighter's initiative bonus, however.

      @midnightgreen8319 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shadowspawn283 Yeah I guess it would. I use it as is, maybe give Warriors a bonus to Init or have them roll twice and take the highest or something? 🤷🏼‍♂️
