Vegans need to know their enemies to be able to fight them. Also, it's important to read such things since if you wouldn't, you might exclude an essential part of the information out there. We wouldn't know if the claims made would be true or not since we wouldn't even know about those claims.
Soy milks environmental impact is minuscule. The overwhelming majority of soy is for livestock and so it's not incumbent on us to stop drinking soy milk for the environment as it would accomplish next to nothing. Once again, animal ag is the problem, remove it from the equation and the environmental impact of soy is a non issue.
@pneumatictrousers There have been plant based civilisations that did not practice animal husbandry and meat was only for royals/nobles or occasional feastdays. Also, are you saying new=regressive? Then does that mean old=progressive? You seem to have your definitions backwards.
@pneumatictrousers regressive how? Trying to better human health, the earth's condition, and encouraging the well-being of animals is progress. Killing animals needlessly and harming the environment is regressive.
@pneumatictrousers you didn't answer my question as to how it's regressive. And actually animal products aren't healthy at all, but soy is. Soy is actually what is fed to the majority of animals that meat eaters abuse to consume their flesh and secretions. If they didn't need to feed billions of animals to then be murdered, there would be more food to feed all humans. Since you like evidence so much, I'd like to see evidence of how the earth is "doing great" with all the animal agriculture going on. As time goes on, the earth will suffer more if people dont realize how they're affecting it. One would think that if you watched mic's videos then you would at least be somewhat enlightened or educated about these things. Watch Mic's videos about ancient Egypt and how the ones who ate animal products were the least healthy. Veganism isn't a cult, its a way of living. Try looking up the definition on vegansociety.com . We don't practice speciesism like meat eaters do. Thats why we don't go out and advocate to certain cultures or countries. We advocate to everyone who needlessly cause suffering to animals. I've seen every point of your statements used by other meat eaters. Every one of them can be proved wrong with science. You can keep trying, but you won't be able to justify the abuse of animals and the mistreatment of the earth
@pneumatictrousers just because something is considered normal, it doesnt mean its a good thing to do and doesn't involve consequences. Breeding and slaughtering billions of animals is not what happens in nature, nor is it natural. And while we're talking about nature and natural things, I'd like to let you know that the device and internet you're using right now isn't considered natural either. So you're going against nature by living a modern life too. Why not live in nature and live off the land if you're concerned about not going against nature?

So glad you covered this! I read the article and thought it was crazy but had no idea who the 'Sustainable Food Trust' was. Definitely seems like the industry is trying harder and harder to fight back any way possible.
People are still so ignorant about cows milk. I heard a 35 year old man recently talking about how cows just naturally give milk, he was so confused to think that they give milk because they are mothers and the milk is intended for their calves.
I love how your videos are so informative and backed up with sources. I'd love to see a video in the future about people with thalassemia trait (often mistaken for iron deficiency) and how being vegan can help symptoms.
Thank You Mic for this video, I also got that notification under my google feed and I was left speechless...like what. They honestly don't know what to do anymore just accusing :/
Damn I would feel bad studying at that "university". First of all it takes way less land to produce 1 liter of soy milk than 1 liter of grass fed cow milk. Secondly most soy is fed to cows and it's difficult to even find pure grass fed milk. (we are talking about 100x more soy used on livestock...)
@Han Boetes I live in the NL. Farmers have an unbelievable amount of pull in politics here. And if they don't get their way, they get violent and start blocking highways, private companies etc. Eventually, the gov caves to all their demands and they get their way. Like children with tantrums.
I am lactose intolerant anyway and cow's milk is for baby cows! It's gross anyway, Soy milk is estrogenic for women so I had to abandon that too. I just make almond and black sesame milk and use it in my fruit smoothies.
Good job Mic! Would you mind to look in to the use of palm oil in animal feed as well? I just had the time for a superficial glance. It seems that Swiss dairy farmers band it from their feed (I guess being the only country doing so right now). Would be great to have some insight in this point as well 😃.
The address in Bristol, England is a modest suburban house. There are no signs outside to indicate that the Sustainable Food Trust exists there or has any importance. You make your own judgement. Thanks Mike.
I want to add that grass fed cows are often if not always, these days supplemented in low grass growth periods, like winter. What are they supplemented with? ( say it like the church lady would: Soy?!)
I think it's really awesome that you acknowledged your own bias at the beginning of this video! Although I stand on the same side as you, for ethical reasons we would always find the research that supports not consuming animal products.
Before going vegan I tried cow milk (in 30 different counties = lots of different cow breeds), camel milk, goat milk, horse milk, sheep milk, and yak milk (yak was super creamy). None of them taste as nice as soy milk. Probably cause humans are healthier consuming plants - not breast milk from other mammals :)
Vegans aren't the only ones who even drink soy milk... I was dairy-free for 1 1/2 years before I made the leap because I was lactose intolerant... like about 60% of the population. Great vid as always Mic!!!
I sent you a British news article about this 24 hours ago and thought "wow that's impressive turn around Mic!" Turns out the Telegraph was late to the game and just as biased at reporting vegan issues as ever!
A quarter of the British population drinks plant-based milk and rises, that's what scares farmers the most. Meanwhile, reduced demand for cow’s milk and falling prices led to the closure of 1,000 dairy farms in the UK between 2013 and 2016.
Can you make a video comparing the inflammation caused by soy versus eating meat and dairy? 💕 I often find it to be an interesting and hypocritical argument for meat eaters to make against veganism.
Hi Mic, thanks for debunking those really silly claims. I find your videos well balanced and sticking to facts, as opposed to hype that some other vegan vloggers make. Keep it up! I wanted to ask if you can also make a video regarding claims that ruminants are required in the ecosystem to fertilise soil through their droppings, and using that as a basis for keeping beef/dairy farms going as it's good for the soil erosion issue.

1:11 "First we're gonna get into the biases going on" "This is why you're an icon @Mic the Vegan .
Thanks for keeping us informed and keeping it real :D
I'm drinking soy milk right now and when I read the video title, I laughed so hard that soy milk came out my nose. 😂 The dairy industry is really getting desperate now!
So happy you did a response video to this!! I didn’t even know where to start when I first read that article
Ahh so glad you covered this! It didnt make much sense to me what they said in that article.. Primarily because they were ignoring all other aspects and the impact of the dairy industry to the environment 🤔 Thanks for explaining everything so clearly 🙏😉
I laughed out loud when I first read this article.
Please people do not read such articles, the more people that click on it the more money they make the more likely they will make a similar one in the future.
Vegans need to know their enemies to be able to fight them. Also, it's important to read such things since if you wouldn't, you might exclude an essential part of the information out there. We wouldn't know if the claims made would be true or not since we wouldn't even know about those claims.
Just get an adblocker ;P
A world full of liars and killers and were stuck on it, and a pandemic to boot
Gotta love it
and the vast majority of people doesn't want to do anything and say that it's just fine
Thanks mike! I saw these stories popping up and rolled my eyes! Good to have this if someone starts quoting how bad soy is.
if you're worried about soy milks enviromental impact, just use plain water :p
Soy milks environmental impact is minuscule. The overwhelming majority of soy is for livestock and so it's not incumbent on us to stop drinking soy milk for the environment as it would accomplish next to nothing. Once again, animal ag is the problem, remove it from the equation and the environmental impact of soy is a non issue.
@@cynicalidealist11 of course you are right. But this comment is for those that would not dare to listen to these kinds of arguments^^
You're awesome, Mic!
This is why I love your videos. Everything is so well founded with clear sources.
That thumbnail is golden
As soon as I saw the article, I though "sounds like dairy farmers are getting scared"
Love your work!!!! 🥰
Yay. I also have my undergrad in sustainability- Env Sc. (Sust.)
Why are they so desperate to say such silly things lmao. I think they're afraid of the vegan progress guys😁
Hope this also applies to the meat AND egg industry
The article was shared with me yesterday and because of all the information you have shared and the links you provide with which I could back up the information, I was able to give the person an information dump of good data on the spot.
Thank You Mic and team ♥️
Dairy simply sucks
@pneumatictrousers you think dairy is worse for your health than soy? Please elaborate
@pneumatictrousers it's quite unhealthy actually, and it'll even lead to an early death
Thank you for your relentless work putting things into perspective, correcting misinformation, and always using science!
Excellent video! We are both in our 80's and are all about healthy aging. Getting older does have to mean getting sicker. We still strive for a strong body, calm mind, & positive outlook. The content you present is very helpful.
So glad you covered this! I read the article and thought it was crazy but had no idea who the 'Sustainable Food Trust' was. Definitely seems like the industry is trying harder and harder to fight back any way possible.
They ain't talking for the planet, they're talking for their pockets.
Unbelievable!!! What a suggestion!!! Thanks Mic for your 'sane' highlighting of this absurd idea. Thanks for the knowledge that you continually share.
People are still so ignorant about cows milk. I heard a 35 year old man recently talking about how cows just naturally give milk, he was so confused to think that they give milk because they are mothers and the milk is intended for their calves.
Thank you for being quick to record and debunk this :)
Sounds like damage control after tge Oatly ads.
The owner of sustainable food trust and his family owns a dairy farm with 80+ cows and also a cheese production facility. What a big surprise....
Their product is doubt. They have already succeeded by getting their headlines up in the news. Nobody pays attention to retractions or corrections.
MIC!!! love it
love your vids, thanks for this! 💚
I love how your videos are so informative and backed up with sources. I'd love to see a video in the future about people with thalassemia trait (often mistaken for iron deficiency) and how being vegan can help symptoms.
Another great debunk video, Mic! Thank you for your time and effort!
Thanks man, I'm seeing these headlines all over my internet, knew you were on it
Thank You Mic for this video, I also got that notification under my google feed and I was left speechless...like what. They honestly don't know what to do anymore just accusing :/
Soy (fake) milk 👉 Gross
Milk 👉 Delicious 😋 🧀 🥛
Damn I would feel bad studying at that "university".
First of all it takes way less land to produce 1 liter of soy milk than 1 liter of grass fed cow milk.
Secondly most soy is fed to cows and it's difficult to even find pure grass fed milk. (we are talking about 100x more soy used on livestock...)
Thanks for the video !
Fantastic preso Mic!
How about drop the Soy feed for livestock lol
@Han Boetes I live in the NL. Farmers have an unbelievable amount of pull in politics here. And if they don't get their way, they get violent and start blocking highways, private companies etc. Eventually, the gov caves to all their demands and they get their way. Like children with tantrums.
@Han Boetes bad for the cows? You don't say haha
I am lactose intolerant anyway and cow's milk is for baby cows! It's gross anyway, Soy milk is estrogenic for women so I had to abandon that too. I just make almond and black sesame milk and use it in my fruit smoothies.
Great video as usual Mic👍
Grass fed cows are STILL fed grain/soy on feedlots. It is only grass finished cows that JUST eat grass.
Thank you 😚💚
Thank you, Mike 🌱
You’re a fantastic human being, Mic. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Awsome video, thanks
Another great, informative video. Thanks!
I want to add that grass fed cows are often if not always, these days supplemented in low grass growth periods, like winter. What are they supplemented with? ( say it like the church lady would: Soy?!)
Great summary, thanks!
I think it's really awesome that you acknowledged your own bias at the beginning of this video! Although I stand on the same side as you, for ethical reasons we would always find the research that supports not consuming animal products.
I don't drink soy milk though. Almond and oat milk is my game
Been looking forward to this one!
I sent you a British news article about this 24 hours ago and thought "wow that's impressive turn around Mic!" Turns out the Telegraph was late to the game and just as biased at reporting vegan issues as ever!
Gross....I am not a baby cow so why would I drink baby cow growth serum. Leave the cows milk to cows
Thank you for your work !
I showed a colleague that Oxford chart when he tried to say how bad almonds are for the environment while he was drinking his coffe with cows milk in it lol
Haha, the irony. What did he say?
@@Bloxeh he just said woah and kept drinking. Wtf right
@@waynegolding3184 Ah, maybe it needs to slowly drip into his brain - "seed planted" as they say.
Good thing you had the debunk right up your sleeve though.
@@Bloxeh yes seed planted. Thanks man. Have a great day
4:38 - I like how in their graph for overall soy usage in compound feed, there is 2 groups for chicken and 2 groups for cows. By separating them it makes it look like they use less in comparison.....uhm .. so dishonest.
This may be your best thumbnail yet
Always very informative, keep it up! 🙂👍
I’m so early this time 🥰 love your informative vids as always, great job 💖
'Sustainable Food Trust'. Orwellian doublespeak.
Yes, the fact that this thinly disguised dairy marketing propaganda organ is registered as a charity and given tax exempt status while working hard to promote less sustainable food is a shameless disgrace.
I am living in Europe and my soybeans come from Europe. They are even growing in my home country Germany.
@Han Boetes Theres Bt corn and a type of potato that are egal. And GMOs are allowed as long as they fit the guidelines.
What a great episode dude! Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom :-) and research :-)
💚 💚 💚
The lies that are being told are absolutely hilarious and furiously frustrating.
Excellent video and it sounds like this article and the studies quoted are possibly dairy industry funded which makes it questionable.
UK vegan here, never heard of the Sustainable Food Trust! Thanks as always Mic.
