take action after venting is soooooo helpful. my goal recently has been to talk about other people less and i've started journaling when my coworkers piss me off instead of venting to other coworkers about it. This "now what" approach is going to add a whole new level of understanding for me thank you so much
My mistakes were 1. Thinking I needed to fit everything to fit in one notebook/planner for clarity and overview. 2. Thinking a new planner or planner system that someone else uses, or is new, would finally work. What does work is trying things out and reflecting on wbat works and who, and ehat doesnt and why. I now have 6 journals. One for each life area that I need. Im happy with it.
I discovered thay I work one WEEK at a time, not month. This has been lifechanging. All my tracks, events, everything you would put on a monthly setup, I do on a weekly setup. Much simpler, completing stuff actually takes 7 days and not 30 (my version of a 30-day challenge is four 7-day challenges), etc. My audhd brain thanks me immensely
Have been can't-handle-the-bullet journal method, psudeo bullet journaler... My issue is that when I get overwhelmed I don't make spreads... So I do all the spreads in advance during the holidays to support my stressed future self... But then like you say, it certain spreads stop working for me and then I have a bunch of spreads I don't use...I get anxious about running out of blank/ brain dump/notes/ scribble pages because by having a whole year drawn out in advance I'm telling myself this has to last all year... But recently I have been making scribbled (like, no ruler, not counting dots, just straight up eyeballing it) layouts in my notebook and it's been making me feel so free...my notebook is being actually used and that seems wild to me. But Ive been working on my habits in the last couple months and I feel confident I will be able create weekly spreads as I go in the coming year. in theory, doing each week as I go and then having infinite blank pages to use as needed before creating the next week is what works for me- it's just the keeping up with it in stress periods that is in question... The idea that the bullet journal is flexible to what you need is exactly what I need... I think I just need to be less precious about it looking good? I need to just be able to scribble it all down!!! Anyway..really liked this video. Some cool tips!
When stopped using a ruler was when I realized I was more free as well 😂 "good enough!" thanks for sharing your thought process - I think you're on to something about it being less precious with it 👀
7:10 caveat - some stuff you have to get out of your head. I’ve found what works for me is writing/raging on a post-it, or a cheap notepad (like, from the dollar store). I use a ballpoint, and I word vomit what’s bothering me. After that, I can throw the paper away (or burn it). That way, it’s out of my head/off my chest, buuuuut it’s not immortalized in my journal. 🧡
I have a cheap “messy notes” notebook for this. Anything that I don’t want to reread or see unless I’m already upset goes in there. I use the travellers notebook system, so it’s just an insert. I go through one every 3-6 months and make a grand event of recycling/purging it. It always makes me feel so much lighter.
I really like your "now what?" rule. I'm guilty of dwelling too much on the negative at times and not thinking of what I could change to improve it. I'm more of a pre-printed planner person, but this is something I could easily incorporate into my habit. That and the luck log. Thanks for sharing!
I'm getting ready to start a new journal for 2025. In 2024 I tried to have one that was only for hobbies and things that bring me joy, I didn't have a place to vent lmao. That wasn't healthy. I think I will balance things... maybe have a book only for morning pages that I can dispose of. One thing I do have is a separate book for my Spanish studies, it's lightweight, I write 2-5 lines a day in the language and then I'm figuring what else I should write about, I've been toying with the idea of writing about the things I watch and listen to in that language. Figure out a way to express how I feel about these things, what I enjoyed, what i didn't enjoy, etc. I am not going to get mad at myself if i don't journal everyday, just a couple of lines each day helps to keep things manageable. I wish you a lot of luck with your journaling in 2025! Edit: btw, my book in English is only kept at home by my bed and it's a lot more cumbersome because i write a lot in English. I think with my low Spanish ability I have to really simplify things.
Love it! Used to journal and I'm going to give it a go again. Thanks for posting these lessons learned and btw, you're voice is sooo soothing to listen to. So crazy you add "Ls" to your words cause I do the same! Luv the channel!
I know i might sound dumb but for me it was a real change -gamer : YOU DON'T NEED A NOTEBOOK, like if you have eg ADHD like I might do, commitment to notebook is a lot. I use little notes (like post-it but without glue). I stack them twogether it there is common theme. I can trash whaterver and fell no regrets (like i do if i am to pull out page form notebook). It is easy to writhe note anywhere and just put it in order at home (no need to rewrite it), easy to pass notes to others. It is like having app, but no need to remember you have an app
Aaa... No. Paper notebook a6 and larger makes sence only if you like handwriting and thinking on paper. Otherwise todo and notetaking apps do the thing. Dont wanna write less
The point is to do what works for you, regardless of how you do it. If digital works better for you, go for it! But the same concepts can apply here no matter which way you go.

I enjoyed watching this even as a longtime journaler. Very refreshing and sensible insights. I think it can help a lot of beginners!

5:25 I heard "even baby seals do this" and I am going to stick with my version, sorry.
Your version is better anyway. Matter a fact, let’s just agree that I did say that. 🦭

Your voice is soothing.
Agree 😊
So glad your back on TH-cam🎉
I always look forward to your insight. Thank you for getting me onto the bullet train 😊

You’re tips are amazing and your humor is top tier lol
This is great! Thank you.
Enjoyed this!
Good advice 🙂
I usually find videos with music in the background difficult to watch, other than that it was great. Thank you.
