The state of South Australia has many small interesting towns, it has a strong mining history dating back to the formation of the South Australian colony. Burra was an important town and has during this early period and it's been well preserved.

My mother, one of 8 kids, was born at Copperhouse 2 miles out from Burra, an original stage coach station from the late 1800's bought by my grandparents. Dad was a brick layer taking jobs around the State, mum with him, so I got to stay at Copperhouse on off the first 10 years of my life, some of the best times of my life, Grandpa, working in the burra copper mines at 14, spent much of his working life on the railways based at Burra. Can relieve those indelible times like scenes from a great movie never get tired of seeing, wonderful place, wonderful days.

That's fantastic, it's great to have some memories of an historic part of South Australia. I enjoy visiting and staying in the old cottages. Thanks for watching!

Burra looks like a lovely town with a rich mining history. We enjoyed hearing about some of it's history. We'd also love to stay in one of the old cottages! Gives you a chance to feel the history. We also recently visited an area here in the US with a rich copper mining history. It also had a monstrous pit but no monsters either! Interestingly enough it closed with the drop in copper prices too (more recently) but is in fact producing again on a much smaller scale. Thanks so much for bringing us along. Now, on to the wine!

Copper mining was important in early colonial times in South Australia, and we visited all of them main mine sites during our high school history lessons. We did overnight camps, I'm sure the teachers appreciated the stays in Burra as there were wineries not too far away!

This was a great video. Enjoyed learning about the area's heritage and seeing some beautiful sights. It was interesting to see the dugouts people used to live in. Thanks for sharing this former mining town of Burma with us.

My GGG & GG grandparents from both South Wales and Germany, all miners, were amongst the earliest settlers in Burra. Their surnames were Edwards, Evan’s and Hirschausen.

It must have been a tough life, especially if they were among the people living in the dugouts by the creek! Thanks for watching!

Hi. This seemed like such a great thing to do in getting that Heritage Passport . Nice to see the dugouts especially, gives us an idea of what it would have been like in those days. I loved the Maliwen restored cottage from 1850 to show us what it was like to live there. It would have been beautiful compared to those dugouts. Great look around here thank you :) ~ Anna

The Heritage passport is well worth getting as it's a key that unlocks access to various sites, even the dugouts along the creek are behind a fence and the key unlocks the gate. It's a clever way of preserving heritage sites and having people do self-guided tours. Thanks for watching!

What a fascinating history. You would definitely pick a cottage over the dugout! What an interesting place! Cool that you can stay in them now. We have a bridge that works like that not far from us!! It has traffic lights though 🤣. We would love to explore the old mines around there. Thanks for sharing 🍻

I think I've seen narrow bridges with traffic lights in the UK, in rural South Australia traffic lights are are. What made me laugh most about the Give way to traffic sign was there was no traffic!
