My favourite line of all time was "Hey brother, I want to buy a bike but it has to be under 8kg for baggage on my flight and my budget is $600." Then later when putting a 14.5kg $500 hardtail on the scales "what if we let out the air in the wheels and weigh it??"
I give you two thumbs up for keeping your sanity.. customer is always right, so they think !! I do all my own work on my bike and studied and watched every how to video just so I am not one of these type of people....and save cash
When I worked in a bike shop I’d have people come in and ask a million questions about a bike, waste my time, say they’d think about it and 10 minutes later they’d walk past with a department store bike from up the road. 😅
While at Uni, I was Just Riding Along and a squirrel decided to jump off an adjacent railing and dive headfirst through the rotating spoke of my front wheel, enjoying a thrill-packed last .124 seconds of life before meeting his end between the spokes and the front fork. First stop after class was my LBS to buy a new wheel.
Funny and true. A lot of the problems exist because as an industry, we don't charge enough for repairs so customers think its ok to take the mick. Compared to the motor industry (where arguably repairs are more simple), the same customer would pay a lot more. Its a culture thing that needs changing.
Once had a guy come in looking to buy a bike for his son. First step was trying to figure out what sort of bike he’d like. Comes at me with the “well, he likes to do 200km road rides, but also loves mountain biking and we live in Kelowna so he wants to do some bike park too, so if you’ve got that sort of do it all bike we’d love to take a look at that one”. Attempted to explain the distinct differences in disciplines that he had just described, but he wasn’t having it. Dead set on finding the “do-it-all”, he proceeded to have his 15 year old kid test ride every bike in the store, and leave without buying anything. Nice.
Ha! Ha! I think I’m glad I fixed fork lift trucks...we had people in the office to keep the customers away! Still got some good “I was just driving along...” stories though! 😂😂😂
We had a lady bring in an old Giant road bike. Needed a ton of work, around $200 of parts/labor. We told her what all needed to be done and she said that it only needed a brake adjustment because the guy that sold it to her told her that. Apparently "he rode on a national level." Whatever that means...
I work at a bike shop and just the other day this lady walks in and says the classic JRA and explains that her front wheel just fell of. She said she had bought it from us just under a month ago. I asked her if she had ever taken the wheel off and she said that she had a couple of times and then proceeded to angrily alternate with one of our mechanics about how it was his fault.
Hahaha love how they get angry when you know it's their fault. We had the opposite once. The mechanic forgot to tighten the front wheel and it went rolling down the stairs when the picked it up to lift it down the stairs hahaha
That would be amazing! But working full time I can do a good quality vid I'm proud of every 1-2 weeks. Might have to do some shorter videos along with the long stuff
One of my faves I had was a lady come in for a helmet for her grandson, I show her something, she looks at the price and exclaims "$45!!!!! It's only for a kid!!!"
We all know that the "clipless" part makes no sense to majority of people born after 1990. And for example in polish language we call them clip-in pedals (direct transaltion from google translate fails here: "clamping pedals").
I would probably have been one of those super annoying types if I didn't do all the work myself. Even the arguably most complicated stuff isn't very hard to do on most bikes, and if you just pick one that doesn't need nitrogen to service the rear shock it's doable for anyone.
Its funny, I had my derailleur go into my spokes but there was no stick to be seen. My theory was one of my spokes broke and was sucked into my derailleur. A sad day indeed.
The just riding along skit happened to me. Ran over a couple sticks and my derailleur blew up..... whoops. Then the shop tried to downgrade my derailleur on me.....
The best one is,Hea man,iam between bike sizes, should I go large,or medium.you get 1000 expert's on the comments, results turn out,50-50 answers are, go large for stability at speed, but handle's like a boat. Go medium for agility and playfulness, but twitchy as hell on the Downs 😀
The regular wd40 is a water dispersant. It can clean things and get rid of a but of rust but shouldnt be used as a lubricant. Wd40 now has a bike line of stuff that works great though :)
At larger chain like I worked at, cash was a hassle as everything is on the books so card was actually preferred. But at small independent shops, which manage their own tax cash is sometimes preferred, so it's best to ask them to see if they can do a small discount with cash.
You wanna try some WD40 to clean those brake rotors Phil 😜 You'll be giving Bobo a run for his money shortly with skits like this. You just need to drink beer and fart a bit more. 👍
yea this is great and all. But WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FRICK IS HAPPENING. YOUR CHANNEL IS BLOWING UP. But for real, really good work on all your videos, I am very impressed.
Lots and lots of sub bots hahaha. Jokes, it looks like the hard work is paying off! The last 2 vids blew up as well as the buyer's guide videos over the past couple of months. Everyone is buying bikes at the moment, which has helped too :)

What would you recommend for a full suspension mountain bike for around $2000-$2500 with about 140mm-150mm of travel

Pretty sure you're better off building the bike at that budget. Get a frame, groupset, fork, and wheels. YT an assembly video and be on your way.
Polygon siskiu T, YT Jeffsy base, merida one forty 400, Vitus escape to name a few.

Sorry for the ignorance, but why don’t we touch the brakes?
Our skin has natural oils on it which contaminates the braking surface when you touch it
Trail Talk MTB wouldn’t that just wear off on the first real use?
