As a retired machinest/toolmaker, this vise would have made many aspects of my job so much easier when fitting or building some of the tooling we made for the production lines, very nice and versitile product.
I’ve noticed this vise in several recent videos, and I’ll be very interested in this report. As I have done for years, I still use my “standard” workbench vise with a few makeshift fixtures to protect and secure the firearm. It works, but it’s a very marginal solution.
To make your vise portable, have you considered securing it to a block of wood that is wider than the vise? This way you could take it to the range and use two large C-clamps to temporarily attach it to a bench or table.
HR, Okay, you've convinced me. I WANT one of those..........lol. I actually do have a very small bench vise that I have used a number of times, but it's not near as versatile as this one. I will probably order one from Optics Planet as a late birthday present for myself. Thanks again. Cheers, Zeke
Good morning HR. For use at the range you could mount the vise on a board or piece of plywood and then C clamp it on a bench. I used to do that with a small reloading press.
Looks like a great addition to the gun room work bench. Thanks for the great review, I just told my wife about it, maybe I’ll be as fortunate as you were!
Considerable thought went into the design and function of that vice. Your video will likely sell a ton of them and rightly so. It's clearly a fine addition to any gun bench.
I spoke with one of their engineers at the NRA meeting. He seems like a sharp young fellow. I'm not sure if he was in on the design of this vise, but he came up with a handy little tool for replacing the pivot pin on an AR 15.
This was a great video I really like this vise. I guess it's too big to move around and clamp down. It's so versatile. I have the AR15 vise block and love it and a torque wrench by real avid. I like their stuff so far.
Nice review but what are the cut out for on the jaw's for and can they be replaced ? I like the fact that one has oversized jaw's and that one side is hard with the other side soft .
Saw it in Amazon and got it for $224, first saw it for $300 when it first came out, I got just about everything they make, with that and a master tool set from fix it stick what can not be done? :)
It has to do with TH-cam’s “bots”. It would take a lengthy explanation, but the short answer is that it’s an effort to keep YT from demonetizing my videos.
I greatly admire design teams that think, innovate, appreciate the details, and eventually produce a superior product. CLEARLY, Real Avid did so.

You may well find this one to be quite interesting.

I could, but I would prefer a smaller more portable version.
Love the trap sight on the steyr!
For portable mounting options, try mounting the vise to a length of 2x6, then use clamps to secure the 2x6 to a table of choice.
Thanks. Personally, I would prefer a smaller more portable version.

You’re welcome. Also, just FYI, Real Avid has sales from time to time on their website.
There are indented slots on both sides of the base where the lag bolts are for use with c-clamps for portability.
Thanks. I've wondered what all of those knobs were for.
Yeah that’s good for a whole lot more than meets the eye 👍
Thank you H.R. the vise does much more than I anticipated and it is nice to see a detailed review on all the various functions.
the Real Avid AR15 Cleaning kit that gives you the mat, the book, the scraper, and all the goodies was worth every penny.

I've been eyeballing one of these for awhile and you just sold me on one😂 Stay safe
Thank you! Be sure to let me know what you think of it.
Wow! What a useful and practical device.
I have the pistol armorer's block and sight pusher tool from Real Avid. Good quality tools. This vise would be nice to have in any workshop!
"Kick me in the jimmy!"
Sorry. Couldn't resist. Great review.
I have been an advocate for Real Avid products cant wait to see your next review I been wanting to get that.

I think so too. Thanks for watching!
Good gun vice HR, very handy. Reminds me of the adjustable vices we used when I was an armorer
I wish I’d had this vise when I was an armorer. It would have helped make my life easier.

I completely agree, bought mine from Brownells and really like it.
Real Avid must have a couple of shooters with an engineering habit. Pretty impressive.

That is one extraordinary well thought out, versatile device. thanks for sharing.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
Just ordered one! I cannot wait to try it!
Be sure to let me what you think of it.
Thank you for all your videos. Take care.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
Another well done and informative video ! That vise seems to be as flexible as a fly tying vise
It is pretty impressive in its handiness. I enjoy using it, and finding new ways to employ its features.
👍👍a pretty impressive vice with a lot of nice features, thanks for sharing

Me too!
Yes I also did receive the notification today
Mount it to a 2x4 and use clamps, then you can use it at the range
I would prefer a smaller version for that purpose.
I have been thinking about that for awhile.
I really like mine. I use it all the time.
Nice review but what are the cut out for on the jaw's for and can they be replaced ?

The jaws can be replaced. I'll be covering the purpose of those cut-outs in the next installment of this series.

Very little. I keep coming up with new ways to use my vise. You got a great price on yours. Enjoy it!
Why do you vocalize the coupon code for one vendor but not the other (OP)?

Very nice vise, thanks for sharing

Excellent review
Thanks!
I really like this vise but kind of pricey.
Nice vice
Vise is a clamping device. Vice is a bad habit!
Thanks. I just changed it..
