      Yeah, Smith is trying to encourage us to wear these tin foil hats by giving us these non-conductive "facts" about aluminum when it is actually really conductive, tin foil hats don't block waves passing through them AT ALL and actually help the waves reach us and HAT films are obviously lizard people helping the government to indoctrinate our minds by lying to us, tin foil hats actually helps the government access the brains of those who actively try and avoid their brain being read and it's all a ploy to capture our brains, so please don't wear them people it's what the government wants.

    Which is why aluminium foil has mostly replaced it! Go to your cupboard right now to get some tin foil. Do you *actually* have tin foil, or is it aluminium? Did you even think about the difference before today? Have you called it tin foil even though it has been clearly labelled aluminium? They substituted it because only tin worked correctly. They didn't have to ban tin foil. People would have noticed that.

    Trott is confusing the Great Filter with the Fermi Paradox. The Fermi Paradox is just "If there are so many worlds that should be habitable in the universe, why are there no signs of other intelligent life?" The Great Filter (having to pass through certain "gates") which Trott describes is simply one possible explanation posed for the Paradox.

    This isn't a conspiracy, this is just maths, but there are billions of species that we would classify as intelligent life in the universe. That's just mathematically true. The likelihood we will ever interact with them is smaller than flipping a coin 1 million times and them all being heads, but they are absolutely out there. Just a thought.

    • @slinky6481
      @slinky6481 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In order for that to be the case, you must assume the premise that you know all of the rules of the universe. The "likelihood" in both cases you present are only based on the information we now have. All it takes is for one unknown rule to completely invalidate that which we thought was statistically true or even impossible. Don't be too quick to assume we know everything there is to know about reality. People have been making that mistake for all of human existence. There's another thought.

    • @gfox9295
      @gfox9295 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@slinky6481 assuming that we are the only planet that gave birth to intelligent life in billions and billions of years of galactic history (let alone universal history) is wayyyy too far an assumption in the opposite direction, and it has been mostly held over the centuries gone by people who were invested in thinking the Earth, the humans on it, or the God that invented it all was a super special individual case.

    "I'm fairly sure aluminum is not a great conductor." Aluminum is a good conductor; it's used in high voltage transmission lines (with a steel core for strength). In fact it's often used as wiring when copper would be too heavy or expensive. You may have been thinking of it not being magnetic, which it's not. (At least, not much; see 'paramagnetism'.)
    Conspiracy theories _can_ be created by just one person. That whole Nibiru/Planet X bs was thought up by a single crazy woman in the U.S. You don't need any facts or sound logic or peer review to create a conspiracy theory. It's just that you only hear about any of them at all because other crazy/gullible people have bought into it. (Or people who find it hilarious.)

    I like to think that everyone is "born" into their own version of the same world. Everyone is born at once but each person on a different timeframe. So 1882 is also 2882. People make their experience amd life

    I really don't think it's super funny that Truman show basically kick-started a period of psychosis for Trott. I never watched the movie, but I went through a period of time as a kid where I had pretty similar thoughts. Fucked me up for a while.

    To be fair, there are ZERO images of the plane crashing into Pentagon. Not the action of it crashing, or the wreck, just a damaged building with no plane.
