- Finally got my hands on some Pioneer Linear Power woofers from a pair of S-P460 loudspeakers. They are quite hard to find in my experience.
The design is very unique, using two spaced spiders as the suspension, with a small foam gasket surrounding the lower edge of the cone to seal the driver inside the enclosure.

This is my first time seeing the Ajet pioneer woofers ...ive heard of em but never , have i seen such a unique design.
About 18 yrs ago I had a pioneer home theater, and the sub enclosure had 2 of these in it. They were only like 4" and people didnt believe me until I showed them. Most people thought I had another hidden sub in the room somewhere. Even for a small sub, they had a super long throw and would hit the lows like my Klipsch 12. It was the only time I ever saw/heard of/owned any, and this is only the second time today. Pretty amazing little bastards...
I have these too. They are a masterpiece. Each cabinet contains one subwoofer-6ohms, 2 little speakers-3ohms in series and in parallel with the single woofer which gives a total of 6ohms impedance.
these are the coolest speakers ever. My cousin has a Pioneer A700 and these were out of this world...when in its cabinet the pressure is immense...the bass is massive...and its not even a sub.
Don't destroy them dude. Those look funky. Do a unique build. I've never seen those before. And the surround is reversed. That's how they do the edgless. If anything, sell em.

That is by far the coolest Pioneer sub I've ever seen. I've never seen anything like it and I'm 48. I'll always be a true fan of old school equipment for many reasons, but the new shit out today!? Sundown, Def Bonce, Incriminator, DS18, Crossfire, Wolfram, Skar, SoundQubed. Its amazing how far we've come. and how much cheaper it is to get the equipment you want. I remember when a top of the line $1,000 watt amp would cost you about $1,000. Crazy. Basshead till I die.
Pretty H E C C I N G clean looks. Very unique. A classic design and still fascinating with the multiple spiders and polystyrene cone!
Don’t cut it, sell it so someone can build something. I hate it when unique drivers are destroyed for the sake of curiousity. I’m certain if you speak with pioneers tech support they will answer all your questions. I’m certain there’s guys here like me who wouldn’t mind owning a pair.
Why? I just got them and they're mine to do whatever I like. The fact that I could cut one up and share a video means that many other curious people won't have to.

Dont think they have a surround besides the 2 spiders. I have the same woofers, an a similare pair in gray. I have actually seen quite a lof of them here in denmark

This is one of the more quirky designs. They don't sound very good but they sure look cool
There is a styrofoam sort of cylinder glued on the back of the silver cone and yes, there is a very thin foam ring that makes the seal. However his woofer does has its flaws because under heavy uses air manages to escape the sides. It certainly is a looker. But not so much for sound tho. Also the coil itself is loooong. Ive opened up two of them once. Keep these in good shape!

Yes! You've finally found these ! :DThe cone underneath are indeed made from foam, and it will disintegrate overtime (one if mine did) I'm not sure if cutting it half would be a good thing, these are still worth putting in box imo

yea , ill dig it up and post a video or somethin , also did you know they made a car version of these back in the day also ? they were in tubes , i believe they were labeled under the model LPA ''linear power amplified'' and LP '' linear power '' and ''Ajet'' in the home audio , pioneer was /is one of the best edgeless driver builder

This system is OK. I was going to get 1 a few years back, but I opted for the Philips-Magnavox G-Bass system, as it dropped lower in freq response. Plus the G-Bass system had bigger heavier louder woofers. I just wanted to piss off my parents at the time( like 15 years ago). I hope this helps you guys find more info on the system. Here is the info I do have on it. PIONEER S-P3600V EDGE LESS WOOFER BASS SYSTEM Ajet. 150 wpc @ 6 ohm. The system came with the rear speakers as well as the 2 front and a center speaker. Dolby 5.2. It had a 3 disc changer, and yeah kinda like the old Aiwa systems.

There is a foam surround. It’s inside the red mounting surface. The woofer just has a tall piston shaped design.
So my brain was thinking these were 12's or bigger and I was like " yo dawg these things are sounding good doing full range" then your hand pops up and I'm like " what ya mean ,a bird" my brain snapped over to there full range 6-8 inch drivers !
No no they're only 6 inch drivers. Surely the thickness of the wires or my headphones in the background would have given that away!
Not really at first, but I really wasn't paying that much attention. Then after I noticed the other things around them, and was like duh I'm an idiot! I think it's because I was only looking at them. I've never even heard of these. So I was just trying to wrap my mind around what I was looking at.
Yea I thought exactly the same, especially since they are so deep... Only seen large subs built like this. Couldn't care less what else was in the background.
DONT CUT THEM IN HALF! These are way ahead of its time! These are incredible...pioneer only used them for mini systems from 1996-1997/98 thats it! They stopped manufacturing them altogether....the designer managed to out do himself...I wish I knew him. The cones have a lubricant around it...and it needs the box to provide the right acoustical pressure for the speakers to do its magic.
Wow. Don't destroy those. Selling is the best choice. You can get a good visual perspective image from the outside view.

The response seem really great and it looks like it accurately handles a much wider range than the ordinary sub.
Sell them to someone who will really appreciate them.

its same as samsung inverted surround,, dont cut.. look after them. they are polystyrene cones a couple cm's deep and a surround inside,,,, the cone give itself stability fo high x-max. ... put them in a small sealed box. with a tweeter and pow!

It’s really funny that I’m currently working on a project almost exactly like this and that’s why wrote that comment.
I’m just not using such a cheap woofer which probably has horrible mids for my project, I’am using the Scan Speaker 32w and a SB acoustics SB29 3,5cm tweeter.
I have personally never seen a tweeter which crosses over below 800hz and even my 3,5cm one should be cut of at about 1000hz.
There are drivers by Tymphany which look like a oversized tweeter (like the one in my Thiel CS5) but I’d rather count those as midrange drivers.
I’m very curious to see how both drivers will perform together as it could turn out it be a absolute killer speaker:)
Speaker Toni have you listened to rolands with one sub and one tweeter? They get very loud with very clear sound
TheOneAndOnly FlamingPotato I’am not sure which speakers you mean exactly but I doubt that they have a 32cm woofer with a 2,5cm tweeter without a waveguide/horn.
This has to be one of the most unique subwoofers i have ever seen!
There is most likely no surround at all. The top spider may be what seals the box.

Rob Land I paid £35 and they're the only pair I've personally found in the UK. I'm sure there are plenty more out there though
I do not even think there is any surround or material in between the cone and the spider, and it probably uses the upper spider for bass and sealing.
The dustcap looks like there should be a tweeter under it, wich would make a quiet interesting driver, but still nice ones (:

Speaker Toni that depends on what condition the enclosure is in when they arrive. With others I tend to keep them in their factory enclosures unless I decide to build something!

It does, i had them also but destroyed them....., i was 11 yo so yea. But the top spider has a latex/rubber coating on it

I played with a pair about 12 years ago, the q was nasty high. Very inefficient and muddy/inaccurate but neat looking drivers.

Interesting woofer
It has a inverted rubber surround, just under the cone, to make it look as if it has no surround at all. I've taking two or three of these apart before. If you carefully lift the cone on one side you will see it.

Looks like it.
Plastic isn't necessarily a bad material to make the speaker chassis of. Plastic is a very "dead" material so you won't get any nasty resonances, and it can be plenty strong enough if it's high quality plastic that shaped correctly.
It is indeed - ABS with no glass fibre reinforcement. Not the best material but as commented below, plastic is very dead at low frequency so it shouldn't run into issues with resonance or buzz at it's intended operational frequencies
My QLN Artech 8 speakers have 8" woofers with plastic chassis and they sound very nice.
Agreed. Hybrid Audio (car audio) use plastic with some of there speakers, and Hybrid Audio aren't exactly cheap brand and as for sound quality, they're always winning competitions, so there's gotta be something to plastic - goo.gl/dPN9jH
I've seen people put Dynamat and other sound damping material on speaker baskets. There's not many manufacturers that use Plastic. I guess it comes down to cost ...maybe.

I don't see what you're talking about. I see a pair in the UK for 20 pounds each but they're not being marketed for their rarity. you can certainly find some sap who has no idea what he has and sells them for cheap but I'd imagine their value is at least $100 USD each

if your not planning on using them then give them to a fan who wants to do a crazy/unique or interesting build with them just seems more fitting then cutting it in half and leaving them in-usable forever same if you give them away to fans who can't afford a decent system etc. heck you can make videos of you building said box for the fan or with him and adding amps etc. aswell be creative man that's the point here

No way! More like 6mm. These are only 6-inch woofers!
And the enclosure is rated 70W total - I'd bet most of that rating is for the woofer since it has a fairly large coil
