People used to horses as vehicle type. And when someone drove at full speed, they could say "hold your horses". I.e. "do not rush". In Russia in the meaning "pot calling the cattle black" we say "whose cow would low")))

Casablanca is a famous and romantic place in American/Canadian culture! "One at a time" and "one by one" basically mean the same thing, but in my experience, "one at a time" would be more like an order given; whereas "one by one" would be used more to describe what is happening. "Please exit the ship one at a time." "We are exiting the ship one by one." You can use them interchangeably, but it perhaps sounds better to use them as I mentioned. Hope that helps!
wow, it's very interesting, I want to say about first idiom. In Russian we have the same expression, which translating in the same way and means the same.
"Bite the dust" is such a sad idiom, if you think about it... Did you know that in Chinese, they call the humanly world, "red dust" - in opposition to the godly world?

Thanks for this. I teach English in Germany, & teach my advanced class an "Idiom of the week". German actually shares some idioms with English eg. early bird..., hold your horses, and after a while it can be hard to come up with new ones. Some of these I've already taught (they loved "Bob's your uncle" !), but you definitely reminded me of a few weeks worth. 🙂
The two idioms which confuse me most are: "None the wiser" and "It's not about money, it's all about principle". I don't suppose anyone could clarify what they mean.......
I do not know why but many times I only get the audio and not the video. It is a pity because I would like to read how these idioms are written. Any suggestion to solve this issue? Thank you. I like your lessons.
We have weird idioms in German. They say "Hast du einen Bären auf den Rücken gebunden?" Translation to English and it means "Have you tied a bear to your back? But the other meaning is "Are you telling tales?" I have to ask my son that, sometimes. In English, they call it "telling fish tales." From Gustav
This is not my channel, but if you can understand the video well, I'd say you must be at least B1, maybe B2... it also depends on how well you can express yourself in English!
