- "Glazing with oil paints" can seem very difficult, hopefully my video helps you to build and adjust colors more easily using my techniques and painting tips. It is especially useful when painting wildlife art and fur and hair in oils, as you can easily adjust the subtle color changes.
Glazing is basically applying a transparent or semi transparent paint over a dry surface, the effect is much like looking through a stain glassed window,
Hope you find this painting tutorial showing glazing and fur / hair painting techniques of some use.

Just found your site a little while back. I love the way you explain glazing. Your explanation is so easy to understand. I've painted in oils, but really never understood the actual process. It's like a light went on. Thank you so much.
Alice Clark thank you :)
Thank you for showing this. I know it will still take a lot of practices and experiments with the media before one can paint like this, but it is very generous of you to show the complete process!
I am really impressed with the final result. I could never imagine that the white fur you made at the beginning would become it... Beautiful!
Wow! The only word that describes watching you. Brilliant! You are an amazing artist.
I think I have all your e-books.except this one. Very good, easy to follow books.
Bettie Elliott thanks glad you like it - Jason
I obviously know what is meant by opaque and transparent but thank you for explaining what it means in an artistic sense, I have struggled with this and am pleased to say I now understand it. All I have to do now is go ahead and do it. Thank you so much for taking the time

Love your videos I’ve learnt so much. Thank you 😍
Amazing! Makes so much sense to do it this way, and the results are beautiful. Thanks for always being so helpful with all your great information!
For a more transparent White you could use Flake White which does the job quite well. I often use Winsor & Newton's flake white on my portraits and it gives a nice translucent tone on the skins.
You are my favourite artist

that was pretty amazing - i'm thinking of using it for a beach (sand patterns)
thanks - yes it would work perfectly for that :)
This is an excellent tutorial! Thank you!
Rather brilliant I just need to know how you painted the white and black fur
Hi Jason. Can you do a video on blocking in fur, and more specifically what to look for when looking at areas on a reference photo please. Alot of the time all I see is the out layer of fur and find I'm having to kind of imagine what's underneath it. I also notice on videos I watch that the blocking in can often be totally covered by the end of the painting. What exactly am I looking for when starting a painting, and blocking in areas. I keep looking at pics I'm planning to paint and it looks so complex. Many thanks.
P.s I'm going to do your patreon January. Had a quick look and very good.
Cheers mate. Have a good xmas

WOW !
AND CAN WE DO THE SAME WITH ACRYLIC PAINTS ?
Wow That's what I was looking for. You are perfect master ;)
Wow learned so much with this. I subscribed
DEAR SIR,I LOVE THE WAY YOU EXPLAIN WHAT YOU DO.I'M AN ARTIST MYSELF,BUT I PAINT A-Z,BECAUSE I JUST FEEL THAT IT ALLOWS ME TO PAINT SO MUCH MORE.I USE TO PAINT WILDLIFE AND MARINE SCAPES ONLY,BUT NOW I ONLY PAINT ANIMALS WHEN COMISSIONED ECT LIKE NOW FOR EXAMPLE.I'M BUSY TO PAINT A LION AND LIONESS AND I DO MY UNDERPAINTING WITH ACRYLICS.I'M ABOUT TO START IN OILS IN A COUPLE OF MINUTES.I'M FROM SOUTH AFRICA.ARE YOU BY ANY CHANCE FROM THE U.K.I JUST WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THESE TIPS.AN ARTIST NEVER STOPS LEARNING.I CAN PAINT A KUDU FOR EXAMPLE ALMOST PHOTO REALISTIC,BUT I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NO POINT IN DOING SO,BECAUSE THEN I MIGHT AS WELL TAKE A PHOTO AND HANG IT ONTO MY WALL.PEOPLE AND OTHER ARTIST ALWAYS BADMOUTH WILDLIFE ARTIST,BUT WHAT THEY DON'T REALIZE IS THAT AN WILDLIFE ARTIST CAN PAINT ANYTHING UNDER THE SUN WHILE AN IMPRESSIONIST OR ABSTRACT ARTIST CAN'T.I MEAN TO MAKE ALL SORTS OF MARKS ON A CANVAS AND CALL IT ART IS SOMETHING THAT EVERYBODY CAN DO LIKE THE WORK OF JACKSON POLLOCK FOR EXAMPLE.THANK YOU AND KEEP ON PAINTING PLEASE.SIR PLEASE EXCUSE MY SPELLING FOR ENGLISH IS WORSE MY AFRIKAANS.I DO SPEAK IT FLUENTLY THOUGH.THANK YOU MARIUS.
This comes in very useful Jason Thankyou ! I have a Russian friend in mind,& have been wonderin' how on earth I could duplicate her multi pale grey/black Astrakahn (?) hat. Thankyou very much, great stuff.

This is one awelcome video Jason . I am wondering if I can use this technique to paint a red panda also ? I am so badly stuck with its fur
Very helpful! I'm doing a oil painting currently and am painting a whitish gray beard. Would I first paint the white stokes and then glaze with a gray
Great tips. Hope mine turns out half as well. Can you tell me please exactly what you are resting your hand on?
Hi I am resting on a small piece of wood with a ball of material on the end - its called a Mahl stick + I made mine myself :)
Thanks Jason I will try that.
