That's exactly how I shop in Mbare. One of the young lads will take me through and help carry my produce. It's called special treatment 🤣 and I love it. Prices there are amazing. Don't be fooled by the way it looks, people from the Brooke come through with their fancy cars early in the morning and stock up on their weekly groceries because the prices fear God 🤣🤣🤣

Not true, there are plenty of mid income suburbs and even low income suburbs that are beautifully maintained. She just showed you two extremes. It's like someone showing you Morningside and then Alex in Joburg and saying that is South Africa. That would be patently untrue.

What are you talking about mbare is middle class compared to the horrors I've seen in some asian countries and some african countries.

This is touting an unfair narrative. There is so much in between this. This isn’t the only high end suburb and before we get to the Mbare low class..There are also many many more beautiful middle class suburbs. The vast majority of Zimbabweans live in dignified housing though there is a terrible shortage of water & electricity. Zimbabweans prioritize family and many of those homes in the video actually belong to working class people working domestically and internationally. The political elite make up a smaller fraction of the people living in the suburbs of north Harare.

Precisely. She vlogs like a particularly ignorant white person, sensationalizing and pushing one ill-informed narrative.

Your crazy borrowdale brooke is upper middle class neighbourhood just like greystone park, Philadelphia, borrowdale borrowdale race coarse, pomona , carick creigh, brooke view estate, the grange, shawasha hills, chisipite, emerald hill etc.... umwinsidale is where the real elite are , glenloarn where makandiwa belt his house, malbrough south is where the real elite are. Our worst neighbourhoods is middle class in other african and asian countries.

If you renovate mbare and change a lot of things in it I tell you the whole mbare part will lose its meaning even that breeze makes you recognize the land you are in so as ugly as it seems is as beautiful as it is 😁😁😉

There was no need to do a comparison as if life is about competition ,You should try to acquaint yourself with Zimbabwean history ,Those Hostels you showed do not reflect the whole Zimbabwe most of Zimbabwe's townships are very well developed people build beautiful houses and even in rural areas ,The history of Mbare the suburbs you called Ghetto is not a Ghetto that term is derogatory ,Mbare is the oldest township in Zimbabwe and these were hostels meant for migrant workers who worked for colonial Rhodesia when it was the second most industrialized economy after South Africa in Africa and they were meant for single men and with the coming of independence people migrated to the cities and the hostels became occupied by families and a lot of people rented those units from the ones who rented them from the municipality and as a result of overpopulation they suffered neglect and dilapidated and also the economic situation that happened in 2000 worsened the situation and there were caused by socio-political and economic reasons ,You should have mentioned the sad history of Zimbabwe of colonization and how the colonialists built those hostels for workers ,the same hostels are found in Bulawayo in Mzilikazi and Mutare at Matida and also in South Africa in Langa ,Soweto ,Alexandra and most of Johannesburg ,showcase the other areas where majority lives ,there is a lot of beautiful places built by the majority of people in townships and without funding from the banks and Zimbabwe does not have zinc Houses or shacks as is in other countries in Southern Africa these hostels suffered neglect from local governments that run Mbare and the infrastructure deteriorated as a result of over population, poorly run by municipalities ,politics ,economic downturn in the year 2000 and corruption among others comparing Borrowdale Brook and Mbare on camera is like what Western countries bloggers do when they visit Africa camera's on tow and trying to romanticising poverty.

Poverty porn is what was depicted there, on Mbare, there is no difference between Western media and regional media which emphasize on filming the so called poor for what really, their dignity should have been respected. There is a lot of places like these in Southern Africa including Botswana however they might be variations some are shacks some in rural areas however am for changing narratives it's sad when an African tries feels good especially by comparing countries like you said, There is no place like this in Botswana yes it could be true but relatively speaking there is people in Botswana who are living in not so good conditions, i been in your country before.

Exactly, there are also no house made from corrugated iron sheets in Zim. Generally Zimbabweans have better housing and well built neighborhoods. Every country has pros and cons.

Very well said. She needed to be educated as she is painting a misleading picture with that stark contrast and no nuance, and/or explanation.

You guys need to bring it down. She did an awesome job with comparing the haves and have not. I dont think she was being sinister as you all have taken it. Lose the South African chip and enjoy her content. Thank you for educating us on the history but the attitude was not nice.

You should do a drive around Arlington Estate. It’s a new community residence (sort of a replica of this) here in Harare 💗
