    This week, we tour a beautifully restored terrace house at Hoot Kiam Road. This road is named after Song Hoot Kiam, who is reputedly the forefather of the oldest Straits Chinese Family in Singapore. Untouched for a decade, this was formerly a worker’s dormitory until it was acquired by Sharline and Prakash. Under their careful watch, they have transformed this 2-storey 2,500 square foot terrace into a beautiful space.
    The front of the house was retained as a place to sit, relax and entertain. It still retains the breeze blocks (as it does at the back too for continuity). The dining room houses a solid teak wood table that can sit 10. Further on, the courtyard which is the highlight of the house has patterned tiles on the floor, with an intricate feature wall stone carving.
    As for the second floor, they had to replace all the flooring as the roof had leaked previously. The master bedroom was huge, which was a combination of 2 rooms from before. The hard part was to create an en-suite bathroom, but they managed to do so with a hand carved his and hers dual vanity. The nicest part of the second floor is probably the exposed brick roof and the original timbre beams which they restored really nicely.
    Special thanks for Sharline and Prakash for showing us around this lovingly restored home. For more, please visit: / 12hootkiam

    The design and details speaks Sri Lanka meets Bali. Clever use of breeze wall for privacy at the back of the kitchen.

    Glad the air well/courtyard was retained. This is such a nice practical and relaxing feature due to the air circulation and cooling but light experience it brings.

Kecuali cabinet dapur 100% modern. Overall soothing touch.

      @@lishr4536 Not sure why you had to point out where the couple were born. Irrespective of their birthplace or their ethnic origin, the house shows influence from India and indeed, from pan Asia. The courtyards are representative of village houses in Tamil Nadu, and the carved panels show elements from Rajasthan. The influence of Sri Lankan art and colors, and of Bali, can be seen as well.

      @@Cactina because the main commenter said its giving village house vibe in tamil nadu... assuming he knew where they were from and what villages even look like in Tamil Nadu and it honestly sounds racist to me. to zoom in on just Tamil Nadu aspect and not touch on Balinese or Rajasthan influence in the comments highlights to me that the main commenter might be one of those Anti-CECA ppl.

    • @Cactina
      @Cactina 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lishr4536 Why is it racist to say the house is giving vibes of a village in Tamil Nadu, and not racist to say its giving Bali and Rajasthan vibes? It could be that the original commentor doesn't know about the home's Balinese and Rajasthani influences- that doesn't make them racist! And they are correct- the layout of the home, its courtyard, etc, are very similar to rural homes in Tamil Nadu. You made a very unkind and biased comment simply based on assumptions.

    Too many clunky and chunky pieces that makes the house so heavy. Also, the Repetitive use of furnishing pieces and material makes it looks dull. The lighting pieces wasn’t great. It has lots of potential though.
