Can I break the RECORD? Fishing for mini monsters

- After looking through the list of British record fish, I wondered how far off I was in the past from breaking the record of some of the smaller species. Specifically targetting Monster Minnows, I set out to see how close to the record I could get...

It's nice to see people taking interest in our lesser species. Great video
This is sick! No other channel is doing stuff like this, this would make a mint series….. chasing the British minnow record 👊🎣
@jameswelch8275 thank you😁❤️

FYI, maybe don't use the expression "a few trots".
The reason? As I recall, "trots" is slang for having the runs...
Tell ya mate I'm a carp angler for 25 years but nobody is doing this your just reminding us that the little fellas in rivers canals are great fun too all the best mate
Go on Alfie you legend!! Nothing like a big fat minnow. Massively underrated species!!
@@mattiemclean9882 such a beautiful fish!
Nice one Alfie, always enjoy your uploads pal.
Well done on landing that surprise barbel too. 👍👌🙏
Gudgeon, ruffe, minnow, bleak. Get them all.
Stone loach, silver bream, sun bleak, nine spine, 3 spine, topmouth, pumpkinseed, so many.
Love it! 😄 Nice to see the 12ft Ultra helping you land a barbel on 2lb bottom too - I’ve recently added that model to my collection precisely for fishing little streams and rivers 👍
Great rods them acolytes!🙌
I'd like to try that rod for the saltwater in the Chesapeake Bay.
Its so refreshing to see a youngster like yourself taking an interest in going fishing and appreciating the whole experience . Tight lines to you .
Nice that you're happy chasing the little chaps as well and the barbel was a turn up for the day - Awesome as always Alfie
Another excellent video Alfie, love the Natural venues that u film keep ‘em’ coming!
Great video Alfie.
Keep them coming 😀👍
A 38" monitor full of content TH-cam has served up. The mouse did a wheelspin across the desk to your video. Brilliant watch and please do more like this. The quality of the footage and sound wasn't lost on me one bit either. Top work, Mr Russell!
So that Minnow was nearly a Q!

@Mike-m4d😂😂😂
Make that keepnet camo and you’ll be on a winner mate 😂👍 and isn’t it good to see an angler catching something small and not moaning it’s not 40lb’s well done Alfie
When you bust out the scales ⚖️ i cracked up 😂 well happy to see you smiling and happy Alfie inspiring as always keep on keeping on brother enjoyable content passionate as always ❤👏
Sick! Superb video man 👏
This video brought back a memory for me.
I can remember catching male sticklebacks, otherwise known as redbreasts, when I was young. There was a stream near to my gran's house that used to have plenty of them in it. I had a bamboo cane with a length of fishing line tied to it. I used bent pins as hooks and maggots as bait. I caught dozens of them and put them in a dried out empty paint tin and released them at the end of the day. Some of my best happy days! ...😃👍🏻
It’s all about great memories and having fun!
Ex pat who now lives in Oz love this stuff Alfie... doesn’t have to be 30lb to give you a thrill. Hope you catch that 24grm monster before too long 😁🇦🇺🏴
Bloody hell geezer. Lovely barble smile on your face was brilliant. Only just found you I will follow now. Let's see where it takes us 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Bro, i love the small species videos. Great watch Alfie, looking forward to the next one. Tight lines mate 👍
Good to see those scales used to weigh summat different 😂. Good vid ❤
The orange and white koi (6:41) has lived there for years. In the winter it lives in that deep pool, in the summer it lives just above the footbridge to the Merton Sainsburys. Funny as it has the Sainsburys colours. About 15lb. Bit of an angling challenge .....
Love it this is exactly how we all started
Fantastic stuff, well done that lad!
Great video. 👍
Those mini species are totally over looked, but some of them are really beautiful looking fish and a 20g+ minnow really would be a monster! Cracking Barbel as well, that fish looked in great shape.
Fished them spots many times over the yrs. Good to see the koi still hanging around by that sainsburys bridge. 🇬🇧✌️
Brilliant and informative and well presented..
Brilliant - takes me back to fishing that section of the Wandle on my lunchbreak and after work in the early noughties. Never had a minnow though but did once get an orange koi on floating bread!
Cracking little fish the minnow ..
That was a good size barbel mate 👌
I never caught a minnow before I must give it a try one day. Lots of respect for you mate taking public transport to do some fishing 🎣
Your videos are relaxing to watch ✌
Go up north if you want big minnows 😅. Ive had them the size off gudgeon while trotting for grayling on the river wear
I used to live round the corner to that sainsburys stretch, I never knew barbel were there. Super cool.
A few years back I saw a programme on BBC about Trout fusing in and around London. That stretch of the wandle was supposed to have trout.
Awesome video Alfie! 🔥
Definitely has some experience using those scales 😉 all jokes aside a really good watch 👏🏻
Thanks 😁
I really enjoyed that Alfie. I would love to see you go back and try again. Also a sneak peek at the first Minnow weighing cradle in early development 🤣
Thanks mate! I’ll give it another go soon!
Great video, top angling.
Some nice minnows 👍 but a very nice barbel though. Nice surprise, well done.
We all know you went to sort those gugeon a 10 bag bro😂😂👌👌lived this vid 💯
Trotting is a great way to fish. When I go after Grayling I seem to catch more Minnows and it's surprising the bait they can get in their mouth lol. Good video mate, tight lines
Love this - often thought about getting some scales for mini species as we’ve had some monster minnows
You are a true angler Alfie. We all like to "specialise," but appreciating all species is the mark of a passionate angler. If you want to see extreme "micro fishing," check out "tanago" fishing in japan with the beautiful floats and
"Edo wazao" rods they use.
TIGHT LINES MATE 🎣
I will mate sounds cool! 👌🏻
Love this Alfie mega video well done
really cool vid!!
Yeah sometimes wondered how big these record minnow are to behold...
The might Wandle such an Interesting water
Something so funny about seeing the minnows on the precise scales 😂😂
A drop of water would affect the weight by a gram or so.
Have you been watching chasing scales , stickleback video?
Great angling 🔥👌🏻
Legend, hope it inspires people to have a go
Dennis Flack is the man for small fish records. I remember seeing a very big minnow once that a snake had and dropped and some lads had it in a jam jar. It looked like a small tench and was almost black, not sure if it was poison that caused it to go black but it was a big one. We used to catch them from the same area and they were like gudgeon size and the males were a fantastic colour with red and white.
How are you alffie mate ? Hope your ok , top film mate , love seing your videos. Every time i see a new one i go GET THE F IN ! LOVE YA BROTHER STAY STRONG
Thank you mate! Keeping on keeping strong! As long as I have fishing I have happiness 👊🏻🙌❤️
Cracking video 👍
Nice fishing
Good video
Good stuff mate. Something different 👍
Thanks 👍
Haha love it Alfie
You’re right about minnows in that first spot, there’s decent gudgeon and minnows 2/300 yards further down
Thanks mate! I’ll give it a go further down!
Check out the great dennis flack. Not sure if hes still with us but regardless hes a massive legend in this area. 3+ records held by the same man for decades. Dace, silver bream, bitterling, 3 spined stickleback all fell to the master
That's what I used to use as Perch bait back in the day !
BITD about 40 plus years I used to think they were baby rainbow trout 😂
Me too. They do look a bit like trout/salmon parr !
(It's funny what we do and think as childhood anglers. I netted a dead trout in the docks as a kid [it was exotic to me at that age] and put a hook length in its mouth to make it jump about whilst filming it on a borrowed cine camera !)
Are you on the Wandle fella? I used to live in Sutton and we used to fish the Wandle back in the late 70's early 80's. Wss very much a river in decline back then but did catch a big trout from a section near Carshalton back in the day. Great video Alfie. Well done.
Love mino fishing takes me to being a kid
Love these small fish videos. Ever thought of looking for bitterling?
Just found this channel. When I was your age you wouldn’t put your hand in the Wandle. The smell and pollution, nothing but rats lived there. Shows you how things can change in 50 years which was the last time I saw it. Good luck I will subscribe.
Thank you! I guess it’s been the most polluted river in London 🤯 but throws up some amazing fishing!
I used to live on Colliers Woid High Street, early 00s.
Hi buddy, both recent records have some from ponds, lakes, so perhaps a long shot in running water????
🎣🎣👍
They grandkids love catching minos as my daughters did
Had it
Caught some clonking great gudgeon over the years, they're few and far between though. What convinced me to take mini scales was getting an enormous spawn bound stickleback, it must have been near a record. Of course since I've taken scales I've never come across any mini monsters.
Crazy isn’t it!
I used to catch some monster Gudgeon around Kingston on
Thames
I use to catch minnows on a worm with no hook, just tied to the line ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Jeweller scales 🤔
20+g minnow must of been spawn bound 😂😂
When I was a kid I netted bullhead near 3 inches long ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
There is another You Tuber, who goes after small species. Based in the West Mids, Stuart Bloor.
Great vid what size hook?..
20
Biggunn 😂
Record some winter carping man 😂
@@FixDylann I won’t record something I don’t enjoy! I go fishing because I love it. I’ve caught thousands of carp and I’m only going to fish for the ones I want!😄
Hi Alfie: "Dont know weather, you say, is it 'Guesting' mode were you were 'angling' !? P.s is it fishable around the Hackbridge/ Beddington Pk area on the 'R.Wandle' !?
Free fishing mate! I don’t know all the stretches, but this one isn’t controlled by a club as far as I’m aware, a lot of the wandle is free fishing!
"Thanks Alfie, for your reply,Yes l think it's the Only 'Chalk-Stream',us Eat-Londoners can access, without having to pay the 'ridiculous' beat-fee(s) in the southern Counties! .
Try sticklebacks too.
There’s probably less 20g plus minnows than 50lb plus carp in the country lol
Doubt that theyre just not fished for unlike carp
@ Exactly, they are natural sized fish, unlike the carp in the uk that are mostly fed all year round, so they get unnaturally big.
@Yosser70 not exactly true carp get just as big in huge wild waters unfished for mate
@ True but they a huge low stocked waters and there’s unfortunately not many of them left. Carp fishing these days is a big money business, aimed at the least effort for biggest reward anglers. Look at the likes of the Embryo lakes and Linear fisheries, they aren’t carp lakes, just glorified stock ponds. It’s not just the big fisheries though, a local club to me feeds the carp every day, because the lake is over stocked but they want bigger fish to sell more tickets. Sorry, rant over lol I stared carp fishing back in the 80s so I’ve seen how its changed, and it’s all rather sad.
At his name every knee shall bow !
southend peir 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Find out where the record minnow was fished and go from there might have got bigger over time
I believe was a pond!
Why real and net to fish mini monsters ? Look at micro fishing in Japan where fishermen use basic tackles.
Really interesting video but marred for me by the casual blasphemy. I'm sure you mean no harm by it but it's perhaps worth bearing in mind that it is really offensive to many people, myself included. Will still watch your videos but for me, at least, they would be even better without the blasphemy. I hope you'll take this criticism in the spirit it was intended.
A 1 oz minow must look a pound
There used to be (dunno now) massive minnows and gudgeon in the river annick and carmel in ayrshire scotland- as far as im aware the only two places in scotland to get them. Gudgeon maybe 5 inch long we caught on a wee tiny hook and tiny piece of worm. Im sure theyll be there still this was the 80s. Its cleaner now. Stone loaches too which arent common
Why bother ground baiting? Gives less chance
