Back in the 1950s/early 1960s I used to fish there regularly, there used to be some big shoals of cracking roach back then, some well over 2lb. The favourite method was very light ledgering using a small shot that would run through the swim and always holding the rod. The most productive bait was silk weed collected from the bridge stones. We used mostly natural baits back then, don't know why they're not used nowadays.
I absolutely loved your video about Gudgeon on the river Wandle, there are some absolutely cracking barbel, just up from there in front of the Sainsburys, but I remember you fishing a forgotten forgotten ponds in north London, where you caught a 40lb carp, I'm sure I know where that pond is, I read the article in Carpology fishing Magazine
Simple fishing is so good, 1 backpack and some comfy trainers for the day. Bivvy and sleeping bag has it's place but short sessions packed light hold a special spot for me.
Get so caught up with carp fishing sometimes and don't go unless I have the time to do a night or 2. Videos like this make me get out more and enjoy short sessions... great stuff Alfie 👌
Great video nice to see healthy fish and my favourite the gudgen, don't see any on our fishing club water no more great Linford angling club Milton Keynes, grand Union canal thanks to the signal crayfish I'd say
I grew up in wheathampstead, next time go more towards brocket hall. you can get some series barbel fish. If you become a member of verulam, you can fish the golden stretch of river going towards harpenden or towards hatfield.
Lovely video and a great session - just getting into fishing the small streams & rivers of Kent and it’s a wonderful way to spend a few hours in a day.
Them baby barbel always bring a smile to my face " you just hope they Dodge cormorants and otters and become the fish dreams are made of . Oh and well done on the winter fishing it's not everyone's cup of tea . 👍
Yea really like this video friend…. easy watching with a bit of excitement thrown in… that’s a really nice mornings fishing being able to catch all of those different species…. i’ve watched a few of your videos now and decided to subscribe… you’re a nice humble fellow like myself… some of the videos on here that people make can be a little patronising… you’re the opposite…. I was getting right into it… especially the nice barbel at the end… the pile sticking out of the water concerned me a bit until yyfor it into the open water!!! keep up the good work…..
Thank you guys for all the kind words and positivity as always! Means so much to me😁😊! 🎣
This was quality! Felt like I was there, fishing with ya. Love this type of fishing. 👌🎣
Carl vs Alfie challenge 👊😂
@@antsfishing I’d have no chance if it was for carp!!
Thanks mate! 😁 means a lot coming from you! Although I wouldn’t bet on myself in a carp competition 🤭!
@fishwithcarl you'd have no chance for any species!
Nice one 👍 great to see what these small rivers old ... makes me want to get the float rod out again ....👍👍

Glad you are enjoying it all!😊
Great video. I love the multi species stuff. The size of the tail fin on that Roach on minute 10 was awesome ❤.
Yea I clocked that, thought it was some hybrid to be honest!
@TheAmericanDane possibly, the tail does look a bit Breamy perhaps? Although no other obvious signs to my amateur eyes other than that big tail.
Yes incredible really..so others noticed it as well...
Perfect winter mornings fishing....Cool!....

It’s amazing what these small rivers hold in town centres, where the Cormorants and Goosanders don’t get a chance to clean up 👍🏻
Well done lad.A lot of fish being caught in the video. Just again a huge well done mate
