After months of fighting TH-cam's copyright system and facing a horde of other technical difficulties, "A Love Letter to The Owl House" is **finally** completed and released. I can't promise that Disney won't try to claim this again at some point, but know that if they do I will just appeal it once more and you'll see it pop up again soon enough.
Thank you all for your patience over the last half year. I hope I've made it worth your while, and I really hope you enjoy this eight-hour behemoth I've put together. It is the equivalent of my Toy Story 4 analysis in the complete opposite direction, in that I poured every ounce of passion, heart, and soul I have in my body into this video. After a certain amount of time spent being too close to a particular project of yours, you start to hate because of how much time you spend stressing over every minor detail. But even through it all, I think I managed to communicate that passion to the best of my ability in this video, and I don't think I'll ever be able to make something of this scale with this level of intensely specific and pedantic care for the rest of my life.
Maybe this'll never break 100K views. Hell, maybe it'll never even come close to reaching _50_K views. But this has been a labor of love in every sense of the phrase, and that's all I need to be content with what I've created. Just like how my Dragon's Lair 3D praise video still hasn't broken 20K views, but it will still always be one of my proudest videos.
Out of every creative project I have ever been a part of throughout my life, absolutely nothing has come close to the levels of stress that A Love Letter to The Owl House put me through; I talk about this more extensively in the video itself, but basically every step of the production of this video was an absolute nightmare for one reason for another.
Except, I suppose, the initial script writing process where I poured out every ounce of passion I had.
Because if it wasn't already clear, I adore this show with all my heart in a way I haven't felt towards anything in a long time.
And I hope that, after everything, you can feel that passion when you watch this.

there was a hunter analysis video i watched that pointed out that since belos had Hunter marked with a coven sigil it showed that he never actually expected hunter to succeed since he had already basically damned him to die once his plan was underway. he had no intention of bringing hunter with him and it was just another one of his lies

      @fermentedoj315 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +69

Also the fact that when he meets Luz and Eda, Belos has sent him to retrieve Selkie domus scales. As we see in that one book, it's an ingredient required for the making of grimwalkers. He was probably gonna start fresh with a new golden guard in the human world, one that wouldn't be "influenced by the treachery of witches." He would finally have his perfect brother that turned out "normal" and loyal to him.

I don't remember you mentioning it but I wanted to point out probably my favourite Eda moment. It's after Luz dies and King goes berserker mode, before attacking she scoots the Collector out of the way. Like, here she is, she just lost her daughter and is on the cusp of being swallowed up by more rage and grief than she's ever felt before, and her first instinct is still to make sure they're safe.
It's a moment that perfectly encapsulates Eda's character.

Something I find fun about Belos is that, while he is a scarily competent manipulator and a physically imposing threat second only to the Collector, he also never stopped being a kid who was playing at being a witch-hunter. He keeps clinging onto his fantasies from childhood and you can tell he's having fun whenever he gets into a fight, using the magic powers he should be by all rights be despising with clear joy. He's stuck in the past in all respects, never able to mature beyond the point his brother abandoned him for the isles. It's why his Inner Belos him as a child, as thats all hes ever been. Once he consciously takes it over via rune-magic he morphs into adult-body, but as we can see from his further shapeshifting this is not because he was tricking them before with a false visage but because his magic allows him to freely mold his mental projection however he wants.

1:08:44 THANK. YOU!!! I was so mad when people were complaining about Hootie not diagnosing King with having titan’s blood. Like… He literally said he was testing for demon’s blood and that they were inconclusive.
It’s like if you have a sore throat and go to the doctors. They test for things like strep and c-vid. What if the tests come back negative? Does that mean you’re not sick? Of course not! I just means they have to test for something else because the tests they conducted were for certain viruses.

It's so weird how linked to my life The Owl House has been...
When I first saw it, it was right at the end of 2020, I'd just lost my closest friend to conflicts that stemmed from both our traumas. A school friend was bringing me to a late pride walk that just so happened to be the day next to my birthday, and would also lead me to meet the rest of their queer friends. Said friends quickly told me one thing, that I HAD to watch TOH by the time the pride walk happened or else (/hj). So I did.
Every day, every morning, before a school I'd drop out of a few months later, I'd watch one or two episodes... There was only season one at the time, and I don't remember a lot besides that it was really good.. I'm a die hard Gravity Falls fan and TOH very much had the same amount of love and quality put into it.
Life went on tho, the pride walk turned into a simple meeting as the pride event itself was canceled, the school friend that bought me there gave me the only kiss I ever instantly regretted of my life so far. The group they had introduced me to was nice to hangout with, but as I got back with my closest friend I drifted away from them.
We're now in mid 2022, me and my closest friend are back together, it's summer, and I'm pretty sure we just got off a rewatch of Gravity Falls together when I remember, "Hey Lynette, you wanna watch The Owl House?"
Once again, the series wasn't done yet, and as Season 2 comes to an end and we're both watching with bated breath, completely thrown around by the twists and turns and just how good the series Still Is. I still vividly remember us theorizing about how they would handle the Collector, as I'm staring into the ceiling, the room is warm and we're both talking about how much dangerous they are being just a child... A few months later she and I would have our final conflict. I was scared about our future. She felt tied down by me, and abandoned me without a word. completely wrecking me with trust and abandonment issues i still suffer from.
But that friend group I met at the pride walk, they were still here. They had also changed as some people had left, and new people were there too, but they happily welcomed me back.
One fateful day, we're all in voice call, and one of them says "Are you all still good with meeting for the TOH premiere?"
They had all still been talking about it since they were big fans, so I knew Thanks to Them was airing soon, but I didn't know they were meeting up to watch it together, to which I immediately perked up and said "can I . come?"
So here I was. For the first time taking the train on my own, little soon to be 18 y/o me, socially anxious to death, leaving my home all alone to meet people for the second time ever all to see a cartoon. And we all screamed and cried and sat next to each other, sharing snacks and having fun.
It became a thing, For the Future aired and we were all together, watching it... We'd also just meet for random things, we met to see the Mario Movie, to laugh at the Miraculous movie, and sometimes we met just to met. They were the first friends I'd ever been so close to after losing who used to be my closest friend. One of the people in this group I later started dating, and even tho my trauma makes it hard to manage properly, I wouldn't change our relationship for anything else :)
I remember when Watching and Dreaming aired. We had watched all the other episodes in Season 3 beforehand, I baked marshmallows for everyone to stress eat in front of the new one... I remember crying so hard at the ending that I didn't even see that Arin Hanson was voicing Papa Titan... All I remember is seeing Darius and Hunter reunite and then melting into tears for the next few hours... My therapist notes this might just be because of my feelings of wanting to belong, and be loved by a parental figure like Hunter was.
I introduced the group to Lego Monkie Kid, which is one of my favorite shows of all time, altho having been one of the other last things ever seen with my ex-closest friend, I had never finished watching the last season, and wanted to introduce them to it to all watch it together... I also saw Amphibia after seeing TOH's ending, it was under the veil of having caught a pretty bad Flu thing (I can't remember if it was the C or not) but I still enjoyed it so much, and thanked the group for introducing me to so many good cartoons
It had been going well, altho me starting to date my boyfriend had caused a bit of movement in the group (He was already dating someone in it that was pretty toxic and did not like the prospect of him "cheating" on them with me) I was happy. I had friends. I had someone to love.
Until they all turned on me (except my boyfriend of course that has stood besides me ever since), a few weeks after my 19th birthday, they all just turned on me. Called me disgusting words, told me I deserved to suffer from ab*sive parents, from my loneliness, from my trauma, from the physical pain I was going thru trying to diagnose what is wrong with my body.
and now here I am. I haven't ever had the heart to rewatch TOH in its entirety ever since. I've rewatched Gravity Falls no problem... But this one. It's hard. How much it reminds me of friends I thought I had. People I lost that just lied to me. Of being happy and blissfully unaware. Of the girl who'd call me her sibling, then turn around to wish for me to die alone, asking if I'm ok, because I'm silently sobbing at the epilogue. Of watching my boyfriend with his ab*sive then partner, acting fakely happy when he himself told me he felt forced into the relationship. Of my old closest friend. the girl I owe my life to. and how she threw me away without a care in the world, not even a goodbye, not a sorry, nothing.
I can't ever stop me from crying at Gravity Falls' ending for obvious reasons, but TOH. I don't think I can stop myself from crying at any sign of its presence, at any song from it, any heartwarming scene we'd laugh or coo at, at remembering what She or He said at that scene, how we'd all bundle up on the bed, or the couch, finding a way to all sit together properly without anyone being left out. Passing food along especially for that one person in the group that would stress eat in front of the show's twists, they'd later be the one to find my suffering "satisfying" in their own words.
I wish i could enjoy the show like I do Gravity falls... As a masterpiece I'm proud of having introduced many people to... A show I come back to watch when times are hard, or just when I'm bored... Something I remember both watching with close people but also that was just playing in the background while I was playing Pokémon once. But it really had to engrain itself in the hardest part(s) of my life.
This video is honestly amazing, there is some liiiiittle things I wish you'd have bought up, but I think they might just be things I saw being talked about very loudly in my slice of the fandom and as such it feels weird to not hear them bought up here, like for example the very popular ship of Gus/Mattholomule not having been even hinted at in the epilogue
it all makes me wish. i could see the show like you do. a masterpiece your friends introduced you to :)

39:17 also i'd say that Flap being able to bring Hunter back like that doubly makes sense when you take into account that palisman magic comes from them being made out of palistrom wood, and grimwalkers are also partially made out of palistrom wood, and 'powered by magic' in general! just given that the way Belos snorts them up and the way Flap's magic absorbs into Hunter looks and seems a bit different, I think that may account for the difference and all.

    The owl house,
what hasn't say, it's beautiful, it's a story masterpiece. It's heart loving show with characters that anyone can relate, understand and just made us love this show. It me personally understood luz when I loose, a family member. And how sometimes, forget about the walls between walls of reality and fiction. Or how Eda's curse made relate and understood my disability even more. I can't describe my love of how this show made me love cartoons, after steven universe ended. Even luz is the must relatable character, can understood why the actions she made. Because I would made. Some I already had.
And hearing disney cancel it, just broke my heart, because a show that made never made more happier espically during covid and freshman high-school any other show.

I think comparatively Stan and Ford from Gravity Falls did the sibling rivalry thing a bit better, and Stan giving up everything was a much better payoff than Lilith sharing Eda's curse. The difference being here, Stan was motivated by jealousy and fear, a fear of losing his best friend in his brother. That's understandable. Lilith on the other hand, from how I interpreted it, was motivated entirely by jealousy. Both Lilith and Eda were all about the Witch's Coven; they both shared the same goal, so the differential factor was on Lilith's interpretation of what that meant. It was personal. Eda knew the stakes too, but didn't let the idea of winning give her any motivation to harm her sister.
I also feel like getting to sit with Stan before meeting Ford served much better for their eventual meeting over having Lilith and Eda interact. I was almost certain that Lilith was the culprit just from their interactions, it gave a lot away I felt. I just couldn't sympathize with her; it felt like to me her motivations weren't to make Eda better, but to make herself feel better. She wanted to correct her mistake because "she" felt bad about it. It was like what an episode between her being an adversary to her being a part of the crew? Imagine if your sibling purposely maimed you in someway to win a competition. I know I'd feel betrayed for life; instantly leave my presence I don't want to hear from you again vibes. I wholeheartedly think she was forgiven way too easily.

Any fantasy story (whether book, series or films) is better than Harry Potter. I entered Harry Potter after watching Winx Club and, while the films were good (most of them), the books were messy, tonally inconsistent, gave very confused moral messages and the main character was terrible. Even Bloom was a much better protagonist, even if I feel she is overpowered and that the power dynamics between the members of the WINX CLUB should have been more balanced. Because Bloom at least tried to be a better person, while Harry is the same piece of shit from book 3 up until book 7. The only characters from Harry Potter I formed a connection with were Luna Lovegood and Draco Malfoy (whom I found a million times more interesting than Harry himself, and his parents are also much more interesting). But Rowling nulifies Draco's redemption arc by book 7 (even though that was what book 6 sort of implied, I assume out of spite that fans sympathised more with Draco than with Harry) and leaves Luna practically in the dust. Harry Potter is comparable to Miraculous Ladybug: two series with a huge potencial, but with creators with dogshit personal politics who don't know when to keep their mouths shut, who treat their main characters as surrogate son/daughter who can't do anything wrong, thus sacrificing the integrity of their story, other characters and worldbuilding.

My dad's former coworker/family friend came out to us as gay a few years back. I remember discussing with him how he feels about being gay and his feelings about pride parades and pride month. He honestly said that he doesn't like it and just wants to feel normal and accepted like everyone else. There doesn't need to be a big song and dance about him being gay, he doesn't want to be celebrated for being gay and he doesn't want being gay to be a big deal. He just wants to feel normal and left alone. I feel like the Owl House does an amazing job at having representation feel normal without shoehorning it in, having it make no sense or calling attention to it just to get LGBT+ brownie points. I feel like nowadays there's a growing group of people in the LGBT+ community that just want to be seen as normal and don't want to be pointed out or used for brownie points

It s a protest so we can have the same rights as non queer people. We celebrate that we re more accepted now and the people who fought and are still fighting for equal rights and safe spaces, but let's not forget that being queer is still not considered "normal", especially in countries were you can die just because you're queer. Pride parades are more than just "look at me, im gay"

i’ve seen this show a billion times over, and even i’ve come away from this 8 hour behemoth of a video with a fresh perspective and knowledge that even i didn’t know! it goes to show the sheer level of dedication put towards the video, one of which i hope gets thoroughly noticed amidst the algorithm. the clips matching up to nearly every word in the script is just shocking, in a good way lol, like, i cant even imagine the sheer amount of time which was put into delicately picking clips from every episode for a simple phrase

    @shadowm58 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

I have watched many analysis videos on many different topics over the years, from games, movies, shows, etc. Yet I've found none quite as passionate as yours.
The amount of love and effort poured into them, whether it be tearing Toy Story 4 a new one, or praising a game like Dragon's Lair 3D to high heavens, make them simply a joy to watch over and over. I've certainly watched many of them multiple times since finding your channel over a year ago.
For a while now I've had a slight interest in The Owl House, but never really got to watching it. I'd seen clips before, and watched season 3 on TH-cam even though I didn't have full context of the show. This analysis however, has made me want to go watch through the whole thing. Of course, I now know a lot of the plot points because of this video, but I still think it'll be a great watch-through.
It's somewhat inspiring to see you explain your love, or other times distaste, of certain media. I have my own interests that I'd love to explain to the world.
Two games in particular: Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which is notoriously a divisive title in the franchise, yet despite its admittedly big flaws, is still a game with a world and story that none other have managed to captivate me so strongly. Not to mention a gorgeous and also emotional soundtrack.
The other being Wandersong, an indie game that I've not seen many people talk about, which is a shame since it released in 2018. A beautiful story of trying to be a hero, despite being constantly told you are not the hero. (and something is done masterfully with the "Hero's Theme")
I want to express my love about these two games, as well as others, by making my own videos about them someday. I may have no experience with content creation, but it's something I've always been interested in, and your analysis videos really tempt me to dip my toes into it and learn.
I also want to say that the commentaries are an extremely fun time to watch. Your laugh is absolutely infectious and never ceases to have me cackle alongside you, particularly at 8:09:57.
I hope this doesn't come off as if I'm praising you like a god amongst other creators, putting you on a pedestal above all others, but I wanted to just state that the passion you have, and the effort you go through for your videos are noticed and very much appreciated. So thank you Trevor "GamingMagic13", and also thanks to the whole commentary squad for their continued support of your content.

The owl house as a series has influenced allot of what kind of people I want in my life both friends and lover, seeing this wonderful love letter helped me as well adore this series more then before getting to re watching all of this series from a full pov and appreciate it even more now years later after it came out. These long videos also is a godsend it’s just awesome to get videos of full breakdowns like this, which makes me more excited for other videos to come either similar to this or over it. Owl house is a piece of media that I hope for future generations will grow up with and learn and internalise cause having this in once life any age any time in once life is such a nice thing to have and does not insult once intelligence ❤❤❤❤

The Owl House is written by fans of the genre, fans of animation, people deep into fandoms and into critics of shows. But they are also professional writers, people who know what they are doing and are able to make everything come together in some way. They have the best qualities of both aspects and that created a show that can be enjoyed by the general public, by critics, and by chronically online people. I also relate to Luz on a personal level. I would do the same things if I was in her position. I relate to her bubbly, weirdo side, as well as her trauma ridden, self hating side. Glad to know you and I are similar. I would suggest thinking about getting an autism or ADHD test if you haven’t already, but you don’t need to if you don’t want to. Thank you for giving a love piece on one of my favourite shows and something I have connected to on a deep level.
Bonus: All I remember of Kikimiki- I mean Kikimora, is that she’s voiced by the same person that voices Tikki in Miraculous Ladybug

i just want to appreciate that your "prolog" was exactly 8:14 minutes, so when you start talking about it, it's an exact 8 hour video.
Also, the cuts and scenes you put in this video so far are just PERFECT every sentence.
I found your channel just now, but you already earned another subscriber.
Now i have to think of a way to make my boyfriend watch this show with me 😂

This video showed up in my youtube reccomended this morning. While I was immediately intrigued by the title and ESPECIALLY by the 8 hour runtime, I figured I'd probably end up listening to it while I'm drawing later... Thaaat didn't happen.
Safe to say, this is one of the best videos I've seen on ToH in my life. And while I, unfortunately didn't have time to watch every segment and ended up skipping to certain ones after the first few (although I'll probably end up watching them later at some point), this was amazing. You talked about and elaborated on each and every point so perfectly. You show such a deep, legitimate understanding of the show's themes and ideas. You countered so many critisisms that people have had with it all so logically and well. I'm genuinely bewildered. The idea of someone having put all this time, effort, and thought into something like this is beyond me. Let alone managing to put it all into word so well... I could go more into it but I'd just end up repeating myself.
The only thing I'll say is that I really appreciate how you talked about the Collector. As someone who's been incredibly attached to and obsessed with their character since Hollow Mind (and as a die-hard defender of them since O Titan Where Art Thou, lol), it means a lot to me. The fact that you were able to explain his character so simply yet so thoroughly is wonderful. It still honestly kinda shocks me how long it took so many people the LITERAL ENTIRETY OF SEASON 3 TO AIR in order to understand the point of his character and addition to the series. Hearing someone explain how and why they work so well as the story's final antigonist despite being included in such a hurry after the cancellation, is so satisfying.
As silly as it sounds given how the video goes through EVERYTHING about the show, it's really comforting seeing the Collector be given as much attention and spotlight in analytical content as other characters. Despite certain issues I myself have with the ending that they gave them in W&D (as in, only getting a split moment to send off their character, him leaving on his own without anybody really caring that much about it, and the fact that we never see them again, and how kinda unfair and contradictory to his entire character that feels to me...), I absolutely loved hearing about him again. Over the past year I've gradually kinda faded out of my avid passion for ToH, so getting this in my recommended a year after the series finale felt nice! Thank you so much for making this ^^
Oh! And one last question... Did you get any sleep while you were working on this?

In the first 30 minutes of this BEAST of a video you managed to set up expectations that it maybe one of these rare occasions that a bigger scope analysis of one of my interest were I can actually not only see someone else's perspective on it but believe that all of their opinions and interpretations will be based on clues from the source material, and not on misinterpretations and lack of knowledge. It happens so often that an 'analysis' video misses some obvious things or presents common knowledge as a fun fact. I'm glad to see someone who matches my level of passion. It's very clear that you care about this show and put attention into even smallest of details, which reaches outside of just the series. I notice your lore accurate usage of wizard and Oh Geeez references. No, seriously, were you checking out how many songs you referenced on a list? (can I see it? I certainly didn't catch all of them but there were like 20 at least)
This was a wonderful insight into the series, a lot of aspects were things I didn't even noticed or wouldn't think about being that meaningful

Took me three days to finish, but I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I don't normally comment on videos, but I have not seen this level of passion for a video in a long time. You did what Disney couldn't do, and did The Owl House justice with your analysis and I hope that others can discover The Owl House through this video. I know it made me want to binge the show for the 5th time since the series final. This truly was a love letter to such an amazing and impactful show. Thank you for creating this

I watched it all in one night. You somehow managed to keeo my engagement the whole time. I was pacing around my living room in excitement as you constantly found a way to articulate my exact thoughts in to words. The owl house is an amazing show if not one of my favorites but you managed to make me appreciate it even more. You managed to get me head over heels for countless characters and a ship that when I first watched the owl house I honestly didn't care much for. You explained so perfectly what made the owl house amazing. You unpacked how what happened to the characters throughout the show deeply impacted them in a way I never thought about before. Still as im about to go to sleep you left me thinking about every thing you said and it makes me want more. Every word you said mattered and managed to keep me engaged in a way I have never been when it comes to long videos. Usually I would put videos like this on in the background as I played Minecraft or something but you managed to completely capture me in to your mind and kept me focusing on your every word throughout the video. I tried to go to sleep but all I could think about was how completely mind blowing this video was on me it made me think about this on the surface fairly simplistic show in a whole new way. I could listen to you rant about the owl house for days. Thank you so much for this completely ground breaking video. ❤

Somehow I don’t think 8 hours was long enough to show the love and appreciation I have for this show. I think Luz said it best in the finale “it had helped me find my place when I had no other way. In my heart I’ll never forget it”

This has got to be my favorite video you’ve made thus far! While I do really enjoy your videos tearing down media such as Toy Story 4 and Incredibles 2, as you said it’s refreshing to hear you praise something. The Owl House is one of the best shows I’ve ever seen and holds a special place in my heart. Not only because of the brilliant writing, score, animation, and all of the other points you went into, but also because of it encouraging me to finally come out about my homosexuality to my family, to which (almost) all of them were very supportive of me coming out. Overall, thank you The Owl House for being an amazing show. And screw you Disney for canceling it!

I watched this video in one go. As a video essay enthusiast, this video hit the sweet spot for my preferred video essay length, and didn't overstay its welcome even by a single second.
I cannot praise this video, and you yourself, enough for putting in the actually monumental effort it takes to make insanely long videos like this, and actually follow through.
The Owl House is my personal favourite piece of media in general, and I cannot overstate how much I love it, and despite its flaws few and far between as they realistically are, consider it a masterpiece of writing, animation, and storytelling. I had this video up on my other monitor as I chipped away at an extremely time-consuming and long-running passion project of my own, and I actually got it completely finished at around the 6-hour mark. Thank you for making this video, GM13. And thank you FG for mentioning TOH so that GM13 would make this video in the first place.
I'll definitely be sticking around and watching more of your stuff, as I absolutely adore how well-written and narrated this video is. I only recently watched TOH, so you're not alone as someone who had basically dodged all of the hype about it each time a new episode aired !!
Maybe it's time that I actually try making my own video essays. I've been pretty inspired lately by the likes of not only you, but also the extremely thorough reviews by ExoParadigmGamer.
Once again, thank you for making this video, it was an absolute treat to listen to and watch.

Banger video, in depth breakdowns like this just make me adore the sheer creativity and skill the team behind this show had to do due to Disney's cancelling of the show, easily one of my favorite videos you've done and one of my favorite videos in the context of explaining how to do good writing (or just a really good example of such) I've seen in a while, good job, dude!

Stumbled across this video awhile ago, I pretty much somehow had a blink and missed this show throughout its whole runtime, I'd vaguely heard of it but never sought it out until recently; the show pretty much had me at the first "Now eat this, sucka!" and I stayed for the rest, and I'm genuinely surprised it took me so long to watch this TV show because I love it. Taking the cancelation into account, I'm surprised with how well it turned out.
As far as my favorite character in the show, King is an easy pick for me, for runner up I'd say either Luz or Amity but I do like the other Hexsquad members too. My favorite minor character would definitely be Darius and I wish he had a little more time on-screen. I don't really care at all for Boscha or Shikiflora, I mean Kikitiki, I mean Kikimiki, I mean Shikitora, eh actually who cares?
I thank GamingMagic13 for making this video as it's what brought my attention to the show.
1:02:51 - One of the funnier moments when you know Darius is putting on a show, it's so over the top it's hilarious.
1:20:41 - Yeah, I fail to see how The Owl House doesn't fit the Disney brand.
2:48:39 - I don't know why, whether it's the delivery or what, but this made me laugh.
