True. But he's also supporting abusive actors like Armie Hammer . He's paying for his rehab and thinks a guy like him, who has said he wants to cannibalize women is a great guy who deserves a 2nd chance. Pay more attention to who these actors really are and what they stand for. Peel away enough layers and you'll start to see who a person really is.

A lot of clean and sober people I have heard reacting to it don't think it's much of a big deal, because no one reminds them of the pain of it more than their own selves.
This doesn't mean Jimmy Kimmel can make actual human beings laugh. I know funnier people in my daily life.
Maybe they just need to drop having comedians do jokes at major award events? I don't mind jokes when you are going to see a comedy show/stand up act or even say making jokes at a what is it called, raspberry/failed movie and preformance thing? I mean, it would be expected then because it goes along with the joke type award. Otherwise, maybe just being polite and respectful to the people who make and star in the movies and tv we enjoy could just be done without the comedy acts.
I think we could be fine and hold ourselves to that level of respect standard.

I do see Mr. Kimmel did RDJ unnecessarily . Kimmel does seem to go after him a lot . And I am not sure why .RDJ has been knocking it out of the park for so long and has earned respect . Saying this to RDJ is like standing up at your best friends wedding and talking about the grooms past girlfriends. Totally classless and vindictive . I believe an apology is in order!!
I know it's not the most important thing but why do they usually get the same guy to host? jimmy kimmel is one of those hosts that isn’t funny. i don't watch award shows anymore but If i did it would be more tolerable with a likeable host. Maybe drew barrymore or paul rudd for example. Playful banter is fine but someone that tries to be funny by pushing the limit and making people uncomfortable, shouldn't be hosting in the first place.

Agreed. along with having solid jokes, timing, delivery, and reading a room are key, and Kimmel did not nail any of that. If he had left it at the first joke and pivoted successfully, it would have been fine.
Kimmel clearly isn't worthy of respect, this was a groan-inducing low-hanging fruit kinda joke. Shoulda read the room, it landed like a wet towel, but he doubled down on an insult.
It's not like RDJ has a history of falling off the wagon, the guy's been sober for ages. When I think RDJ, I think Iron Man first, his drug history doesn't even come to mind, and he's been that way for a whole new generation of fans. Give the guy the credit he's due, the Oscar is well-deserved.

I really like Jimmy Kimmel, but this is another one of the times where he messed up. To put it bluntly, he can be a real asshole. This was one of the many times that he embraced it. Robert Downey Jr. definitely deserved more respect than that.

Downey's career high happened unironically on the same night as Kimmel's career low.
I perceived something different. Downey took it in stride, the jokes were weak, and the show continued. It's not a big deal ... must be a slow day over at Screen Rant if you have to start making up problems.
The Oscar's have been an unpleasant "Roast" for too long. Ditch Jimmy. Hire Sally Fields.
Along with having a solid joke premise, you need timing, delivery, and the ability to read a room, and Kimmel did not nail any of that. The first joke itself is pithy, but arguably funny, and if he had both delivered it better and immediately pivoted from it successfully, it would have probably been fine, but, alas...

Kimmel has always been a jerk. I never understood how he got so far. I remember when he was on a Sunday football show called The NFL Today trying to inject some comedy into the show and failed miserably. Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long picked on him every chance they got. I felt sorry for him at the time. Didn't know who he was. But good for RDJ. I'm shocked. I thought he had a few more Oscar's. I guess Oscar was to busy picking other people over the years that didn't deserve it. They've made a lot of weird choices so we stopped watching years ago.

It’s all a matter of opinion. If you can get a laugh out of it, then it was humorous. The entire Dolby Theater lit up when he clapped back at Trump. I honestly plan on voting for the guy come November but even I found that “past your jail time” quip to be one of the highlights of the night.
