    I’ve had mine for 8 months. I have a lot of trouble trying to peel myself away from to take care of life’s responsibilities like eating, showering, going to work, etc. It is so easy (and fast) to get great tones out of. I spend a lot more time playing and much less time tweaking. It was definitely worth my money. I setup presets according to guitars - Les Paul, Tele, Strat all have their own presets. Humbucker Tele has different presets than single coil Tele, etc. TMP is a bad ass piece of gear.

    I've been using Fender gear for a long time, and I've been able to get what I want out of it, but I've also been into ADA rack gear too. So, here is the question I have for you; can you do "captures" with the Tone Master Pro?

    • @damionandy
      @damionandy  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No, you cannot capture with the Tone Master Pro. The only modeler that allows that is a NeuralDSP QuadCortex. However, I think that’s kinda a one trick pony. If you understand amps and signal chain, you can really do anything with the TMP. If by captures, you mean impulse responses (capture of a specific mic & cab combo) - you can use your own IRs. Hope this helps! If you decide to get the unit and want to do a deep dive on sound design while maximizing the device, you should checkout my latest course!

      @@damionandy I sort of guessed that the TMP can't do captures, and I was thinking more along the lines of capturing amp tones like the Axefx or Kemperer.
      I understand amps and their signal chains all too well, and what I was aiming for was to try to capture some of my ADA preamp tones, i.e. MP-1, MP-1 Classic, MP-2, etc.
      More than likely, if I do get one of these, I'll probably just create amp tones from scratch as I did with my ADA gear and my Cyber-Amps, and then just add whatever effects I might need afterwards. I find factory presets to usually have too much of everything and need serious editing to get them to a more realistic level. (Fender has always been reverb-heavy with all of their modeling amps).
      Thanks for the reply though, and if I do decide to get one, I'll check out some of your info. It does look a lot less cumbersome to get into than some of the other machines on the market, and if Fender keeps updating the amp tones in it, it might be worth the price tag.

      What genre do you play? QC is more metal and TMP is for sure great for clean - but also does metal, but the TMP for me is more amp-like - more tube-amp like. QC was brittle sounding to my ears - I play clean to edge of breakup. TMP does this perfectly..

      Just my opinion, but I'd still say the Tone Master Pro instead of the QC. The QC is great, but the TMP will feel familiar. You know what a pedal is because you get to see a digital replication of the real thing. The QC, and other modelers, expect you to know a ton about a ton of gear and not have the same visual design to use it. Just my $.02.

    Glad someone was an early adopter of the TMP - given the financial risk of its initial, then-unproven worthiness. Only recently have I become convinced it to be a piece of gear worth pursuing. Many years after hauling stuff around and doing the band stuff, so many small, appropriate venues going away, I'm nowadays only interested in recording and coming up with new compositions, whether they be songs or instrumentals. I have enough amps, guitars, synth, and effects to produce most of the sounds I want - but I can't get to them nearly so quickly, with easy-to-access presets - nor with near the range the TMP is capable of. Nor can I experiment so easily. The updates seem truly useful. I like that the TMP appears intuitive to navigate. And I don't have to physically rearrange so much gear, mic setups, etc., in my studio, just to get certain sounds. So, it's definitely high on my list, with only a handful of very unique and expensive, boutique pedals standing in the way. Today, I won't buy a piece of gear unless I'm convinced I'll use it for a VERY long time!

I’m as much of a student as I am a teacher haha.
      To answer your question, yes. I mostly use the Klon replica on a Deluxe for edge of breakup. I’ll do the classic tube screamer trick on high gain amps. I always play with reverb, and this unit has some really cool ones. For me, I choose an amp and build a pedalboard around that. I’m not too keen on building one sound rigs, but I know this is a popular approach. I keep it simple haha.

    Have you used the Fractal FM9 MKII Turbo? If so, do you like the tonemaster pro as much or more? I currently have the FM9 but want a second digital modeling unit for backup and would like something a bit different than what I have. My first priority is sound quality and realism. I don't care if a unit is harder to program, not as good a UI, etc. I'll learn whatever I need for the best sounding unit.
    I also don't like high gain. Edge of breakup and mid gain crunch all the way. My favorite amp types are blackface, twin, bandmaster deluxe reverb and especially Bassman. I also like plexi. If the tonemaster really mastered the blackface tones as I expect they would I would seriously consider it for a second unit. One worry, though is their product support. Fracatal is second to none and Fender has deprecated fuse software leaving customers orphaned. Kemper, Fractal, etc has great product support. I'm a little skeptical that Fender will equal.

    I have an FM3 and Helix stomp. I tried the Tone Master Pro and found the volume low through various headphones....even with low impedance of 50 ohms... and volume maxed on the TMP. No problem with volume....plenty to spare... on FM3 or Helix Stomp. Maybe I had a bad unit. Do you notice any headphone issue?

    • @damionandy
      @damionandy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Volume is a concern when just starting out with the unit. I spoke with Jason a while back and he mentioned the TMP supports high impedance headphones, so I'd just double check amp volume, preset volume, and global volume. If all 3 of those things are up and you still have this issue, reach out to fender. Something must be off.

So it's gonna be a struggle for me to stop using it, so I've concluded that I'll use both for different venues. But the TMP is just killer - I had a QC....tone was brittle and the UI was a joke. @@coppulor6500 Crazy...but yes. I have a 3rd power killer custom made Nashville amp - tube. I love it. The tone is absolutely amazing, but I like messing with new tech. So I got a QC - just didn't like it. As I said above, brittle and fizzy with a toy-like UI with goofy icons. The tone was the issue. Then I got the TMP. And yes - it has that "tube-amp feel". I can turn down the guitar volume and the OD goes to a clean sound, like a tube amp, and the tone - this is the key for me, is very much tube-like. I compare my Nashville tube amp side by side and I and get the same tone with the TMP - it's crazy. I've not gigged with the TMP yet - I have to mess with gear and get used to it before I gig with new gear. Even though the TMP is super easy to program (I'm a simple amp guy cause I PLAY GUITAR and hate messing with crap/knob/programs to get "that sound or that tone". 3 knob amp is me. But the TMP was like a 15 min setup to get a tone that I liked, unlike Line 6 stuff or the QC. So yes, the feel is like a tube amp with the TMP.

      @@chrisguitar that is very exciting (to me) lol. Been waiting to hear that fir decades. Thank you so much. My opinion is that a slight overdrive breakup bkues tone is rhe most difficult to replicate digitally without getting any artifacts and with maintaining the sustain one would get with an amp. So you and I have interacted on the fender tone Master pro forum Facebook before 😊 I've always sent folks your way for TMP info! For me the tone Master pro ultimately didn't end up being my forever rig - but it is a darn good unit! I ended up switching to a quad cortex for size reasons and I have a small power pack that makes my entire board self powered (which I like) so now when I am playing I only have to rely on one IEC style cable for my power amp, everything else is ez. For what it's worth I will say the unit is very rugged and well-built, all of your buttons and dials are top-notch, and the graphics are very cool looking. The biggest things that improved for me was when they added sic interfaces to adjust your impedance so you could properly match the cabinets you were trying to get impulse responses for (although this sometimes backfires because not all impulse response manufacturers actually list what impedance speakers they were modeling)

    • @whatmusiciwant

      @@damionandy I totally agree if the TMP is checking off all of your must have item list then there is no need to switch. But if you did sell your fractal unit and you wanted something that was a smaller form factor as a fly rig this would certainly serve as a great backup that could also act as a great capture unit. That being said the plug-in compatibility is pretty cool, the gojira plug in is 98.6% accurate to the 5150III I use! The only difference is that I have the 50w head so the voicing is slightly different and I imagine they simply modeled the 100 w instead!
