      For me, there's very few scenes in gaming that are as impactful. This hit me hard. Not just as a work of fiction, but as a life lesson. There's a reason why I'm planning on getting a tattoo of the Azem stone.

      Honestly I'd argue this is one of the most powerful scenes in all of gaming, assuming the person experiencing it has the full context of the entire game before it.
      I thought nothing would get me as hard the "A smile better suits a hero" scene in HW...then this scene came along.

    The moment they made the visual parallel with the WoL's walk towards Emet at the end of Shadowbringers, I let out a sort of "Oh..." and was pretty much unable to do anything for several minutes. My wife had to get up and take a walk. It hits so, so hard.

      In my playthrough of the game that was the moment in this scene when I finally popped and my face turned into Niagara Falls. I was holding it together up till then, barely, but when it flashed to WoL approaching Emet I went into some full-on ugly crying.

      i know this is over a year old comment. but i was watching this and thinking. you know what would have made it hurt even more, is if you saw Hythlodaeus among the group of ancients in the following scene, mask on and arms raised as they try to sacrifice themselves. i dont know if that would take away from him just walking away from Emet, but i feel like it woulda made it hurt even more.

    It's amazing how Venat chose against surrendering. Had they given in to Zodiark, it would have been a dwindling demise. Cutting and cutting people until there were none left to sacrifice. But Venat chose for the future. By sundering the world, she started a cascading effect that culminated when we again were given the option of salvation: Fighting or Fleeing. And then It was the People, not Venat, who chose to Fight. It wasn't even the Scions or the WoL but the congregation, in a call back to the previous question, and this time they didn't falter. They chose to fight for their world and their place in the universe and for those who couldn´t fight back. Venat was proven right. She believed all along in mankind. She chose to have faith in the people, and when it mattered, many thousand years later, people stood before the Calamity, not as victims but as agents of their own fate.

    I don't like her, she is a good character and all, but she is just as much a villain to me as Hermes was. Hermes at least had his memory of events deleted, Venat outright CHOSE to keep silent about the actual cause of the end of days and murdered her entire race for not figuring out something she could have told them. Screw Venat.

    • @kayser3636
      @kayser3636 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Remember that the events in the Elpis had to remain a closed loop. Had Venat openly spread word of the final days and the vast majority believed her, its possible that Zodiark would never had been summoned and the world would have been consumed by ever greater dangers caused by the dynamis effected, out of control creation magic. Meaning we would never had existed to go back in time in the first place to help set in motion the events that lead to them discovering Meteion and her conclusion.
      She also didnt stay silent, she chose her allies to confide in (The Watcher being one of them that we know of) and as she saw her people give in to despair, wanting to go back to their easy life, becoming tempered by Zodiark, only stalling for more time instead of moving forward and fighting, so she SUNDERED the star and Zodiark, dividing the world and people's souls into 13 shard (7 of which being forcably rejoined now). She believed that in making man face hardship without a grand power to easily hide behind they would find their own path forward, a way to defeat despair (The Endsinger) because a race that had only known peace and bliss wasn't equipped to fight against it.
      They weren't murdered, their souls we divided. Its why the WOL souls is noted to be the same colour as Azem's. When people die their Soul is returned to the Aetherial Sea until new life is born for that soul to inhabit. So after the sundering the Azem of the source lived and died over and over, being rejoined with other shards of Azem as Calamities occur until we come along, the same with all other life in the source and its shards.
      Also as a last note one advantage of the sundering is that since we're no longer such Aether dense beings, we have the slight ability to manipulate dynamis in times of high stress and emotion to help us transcend and BREAK our LIMITS :P

    • @imaran1303
      @imaran1303 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kayser3636 1. The time paradox argument... a decent argument to make... if we didn't have a situation in game that proves that time paradoxes do not exist in FF14. G'raha Tia existed in the first because he was trapped in the tower and was freed in a timeline where we died, and yet, we survive and we removed G'raha from the tower, meaning he never jumped into the first in the 'FIRST' place! (Eh?!) Anyway, cheap joke aside, this proves that Venat could have interfered because as said, time paradoxes do not exist.
      2. I call it murder because people call Emet a murderer, even though he simply was putting together shards and those that 'died', don't actually truly die, they join the lifestream and are reincarnated with the same soul. So, by your logic, if what Venat did wasn't genocide, then what Hades did wasn't genocide either.
      3. No one, not Emet, not Hythlodaeus, NO ONE, but her own creations knew of the actual cause of the Final Days, naturally the people who summoned Zodiark thought they were in the right, as they had no idea of the actual cause of the Final Days, much like Hermes, she came to a flawed conclusion with a flawed premise.
      4. We have seen full-fledged Ascians manipulate Dynamis before, what with Elidibus being able to cast limit breaks and Hades and Hythlodaeus being able to shape Thule to help us in beating the Endsinger.
      Which leads me to my last point:
      5. We haven't proven shit, because let us be quite honest, it was the Ascians who saved our bacon more then once. Had they any pettiness in their bones, Elidibus would have told us to go fuck ourselves when we asked about Elpis, meaning we would have never learned of the Endsinger, much the same as the Ancients. And Hades could have also told us to go to hell and leave us stranded there without a paddle. We didn't achieve shit.

    • @imaran1303
      @imaran1303 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Minerva Hekate (The Drowsy Librarian) I, to an extent, agree. The ancients aren't black and white, but I will always side with Hades over Venat, as Hades only ever wanted peace for us. Which would require the rejoinings. Which wouldn't have been necessary in the first place, had Venat instead talked with her people instead of going behind their backs, sundering them and dooming their souls to a eternity of pain, misery and death.
      Also, Hermes was being melodramatic, considering the beasts in question weren't just killed as a first resort, they tried to adjust its behavior to be less volatile and less dangerous to the rest of the planet. The guy got upset over the equivalency of paper with drawings on them. As their creations don't usually possess a soul anyway, while they remain concepts.
      And what they say and what we see happen are two different matters. We see the ancients be unaffected by Dynamis, but we saw both Elidibus, Emet and Hythlodaeus manipulate Dynamis with the help of aether.
