I’m from Germany. I’ve been locked up in the USA and had family locked up over here in Germany. And over here it is all rehabilitation. Our sentences are way fairer and integration is a big deal. As you get to the end of your sentence you get weekend field trips where you get to leave jail by yourself to see family and try to integrate back into society. You even can get extended vacations from prison if you behave in prison. Our guards are actually trained 2-3 years before they have a chance of being in contact with prisoners. Same for cops. None of this 8-12 week police academy and here’s your gun. Plain and simple you do not get locked up as easily as you do in the US. And we definitely don’t throw away the key except in very rare circumstances.

He seems like he has a lot of positive ideas. I won't even lie, he has really broadened my perspective. I've had a relative thrown in prison wrongfully for 10 years, so I was always sympathetic. However, I think after watching the Mac interviews I learned a lot more.

20:20 im glad he said that when i was locked up the jail i was in had people sleeping on the floor in the gyms mixing different gangs on purpose all kinds of crazy shit.. i get that people are in jail for a reason but i think it was an old interview where they said people are in there for a act that happened in a split second and it ruined their lives.. doesnt mean they should be treated like less than human or animals

@14:06 I witnessed that. A Captain at Rikers Island had a son who was arrested on the streets for something petty. As a lesson this Captain didn’t bail out his son and he wound up on Rikers. I was a jevenile back than, about 20 years old. This was around 1988 where juveniles were from 16-20. Adults were 21 and up. I served 2 years in the military right after high school so I was swole and didn’t have much problems. C-74 was overcrowded so they made space in C-73 (The Woman’s House), for the overcrowded juveniles. I was in the same block this captains kid was in and he told me his story. Long story short, he got sucker punched by another juvenile for a chair in the dayroom and lost a tooth. What a lesson his good ole dad, the captain taught him. After he got his tooth knocked out his family bailed him out a day later. What a f**ked up lesson his dad taught him. Real story. It can happen to anyone. My parents knew I could hold my own so they never asked me if I wanted to get bailed out but when the holidays would come and I sat on the Island for a good few months, I would call the crib and tell mom dukes I want to be home for the holidays. Mom dukes would say, “ok, I’ll tell your father. When you want to get out.” I did have the luxury of having 2 hardworking blue collar parents who saved money but I had too much pride to ask them for bail many times. They ALWAYS made sure my commissary was good and visit now and than but “if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime. OG BASE from The Bronx🤘🏽

I’m really proud of China Mac tbh. It takes a real man to apologize face to face with someone he did wrong too and his continued growth is equally impressive. He needs to link up with Shyheim imo they both seem to have went through similar trials and tribulations and turned their lives around, and maybe together they can put a spotlight on Prison reform as well as work together musically.

No in this country Prisons are a big business on par with Slavery. While we’re at it we need to reform the entire justice system starting at the local level with police, to the court system as well as prisons. If a prisoner is working in jail that money shouldn’t go to the prison but used to fund programs to educate as well as for money so when people get out they don’t have to resort to crime to eat but have money for housing, food etc.

In Spain they aim for rehabilitation. Because of cuts, those types of programs have been reduced unfortunately. There were times where there were factories in prisons, and before you say "slavery" like in the USA, they had to be paid at least the minimum wage, the same than everybody else. The system is not perfect, but the concept is rehabilitation.
