15:48 you were finally honest about early access, and I agree with that whole-heartedly. This game ISN'T even ALPHA, but it IS early access. It's a SNAPSHOT at **best** and a framework with assets inserted at worst. 110% steam should add clarification via categories. I think instead of just calling everything "Early Access" (which is a very vague term) they should have 3 categories. Snapshot, Alpha, and Beta. They should mean EXACTLY what they mean.
This game is a snapshot, basically you're only buying the game if you trust the developers and truly want to support them as the begin to truly develop the game. An ALPHA, would be something like 7 Days to Die, they started in alpha and were constantly adding new content to the game and only fixing critical, game-breaking bugs so that it could be tested smoothly. A Beta, would be a game that already has it's content added and is now in the stage of bug correction, balancing, and optimization.
These people are right for giving you shit for judging "Early Access" so hard, but that's ONLY due to semantics because Early Access is such a vague term and could mean anything from a Snapshot, to a game that's in Beta, which is a Ludicrous way to classify games!
Essentially, I would stick to reviewing games based on their price vs what they offer. When you start talking about "Early Access" (which could be something as early as a snapshot, like this) you're just opening the door for all those people to, accurately due to semantics, call you a dummy.

Many games use marketplace assets. Conan Exiles, Ark, Secret World Legends, etc, all use assets found on the marketplace. The key is in what they build with them. This appears to be little more than a few bits thrown together and rushed out the door.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression, after all. They could deliver a fantastic game in the end. But this impression will haunt them.

I've been playing ARK, The Forest and even in Rust, which was the survival game I liked the least due to its lack of purpose, the goal is never just "to survive". There's things to do, be it exploration, building a cool base, find lore...
@@NWolfsson Even The Isle, a game which really can be played just to survive, has a bunch of ways to make your own fun. Explore the island (that has a bunch of features) establish a territory around an area you like, build a nest, a herd, etc? Sure. The Isle needs a lot more work, but considering Day of Dragons clearly took heavy inspiration from The Isle it really shouldn't have been released yet.
Apparently icycaress and igp is hard coded in the game where everytime they try to play the game just closes.
If you watched icys vid (I'm assuming you did) he also shows that's against the steam ToS. The dev is so ignorant

Fecking hell, this game is just a bag of lies. Ya know, there's a guy making a fan httyd game. It's in early access, created by 1 dude who's made his own map, weather effects, systems, everything (from what I know) and there's actually something to do that isn't just "walk a while" simulator Ya know the cherry on top? It's FREE! And the dude is WAY underrated for what he's doing.

I think that is the opportunity to drop the name of the game and/or of the creator so interested people would go check that game ;)

I cannot fathom the insanity it takes to be in a game chat and defend a game where you spend a half hour or more doing nothing until you can fly and maybe fight one thing.
You have to find food and stay hidden/run away from big guys while you're growing. Sneaking your way into a food source and avoiding getting seen is even more fun than fighting people and world bosses later, in my opinion. If you think that's nothing, survival games are probably not for you.

Ehh, not surprising. With early access games like this you'll always have a horde of brainless consumers desperately trying to defend their shitty purchase. The fact that their Kickstarter ended in October and they're already putting it up for purchase just goes to show that these devs are most likely just after the money, just like the RAW devs and countless others.

Future isn't looking good for this game. People say its early access and thats why its like this. But really? I've seen tons of survival games in early access that had more to do than this game does.
Eating, drinking, fighting, chopping wood, building some sort of shelter, actual enemies, so many other things in an early access game that this game DOESN'T have. And this game is twenty dollars? Waste of money. This game is NOT worth twenty dollars.
I am a frugal person on a good day. I am not willing to spend 45.00 on just ONE item, that doesn't even look like its worth that much. But twenty bucks for a game thats just placeholders and shit? Where you can't even do anything, when other survival games are far ahead of such game in that they have many more things to do even in Early Access. Even with just ONE person making the game. I've seen games that a *single* person made, by themselves, that are ten times better than this during early access. This isn't even subpar, its below that at this point.

i haven't played the dragon game yet and the idea seems amazing, when i was a kid i always dreamed of having a dragon survival online game...this just looks so bad, i'm sorry if anyone supports this but it does look really bad, the maker of the game has basically done nothing himself to the game, he just bought maps and dragon models and put them together. i agree with you, this is not worth 20, i get that they want to make some money to make the game but they did get money from fans and i think they should sell it for probably like 10 or less.

I remember when Starbound was in Early Access many years ago, sure had one hell of a bizarre gameplay loop and sense of difficulty curve but it had leagues more to do than what Day of Dragons has.

I absolutely love survival games. I absolutely love walking simulators.
I've never seen a game in either one of those genres so devoid of content as this. In survival games you have to gather supplies, build a base, etc. Not just hang out for half an hour.
In walking simulators, you(hopefully) have a really good story. You interact with the environment. The most you look around and pay attention to datails, the more the world is built.
I really couldn't be bothered to spend time on this. An open desert has no real purpose to it.

When you add code to your game prevent specific Steam ID’s from being able to open the game it IS against Steam’s ToS (aka illegal). The head dev for this game has done this.

Don't worry I'm not here to bash this video but more so support it!
Alpha state does not equal early Access, let me make that clear.
All you can do is talk and fly. You spend most of your time afk asleep to grow. That isn't playability. That's just a social sim. Drinking and eating? That's not the tip of the iceberg with a survival game.
I paid for the Kickstarter and I didn't realize that this is being sold as it's current state right now. I'm not going to defend something simply because I paid for it. You can't try to sell a product for 20 bucks that is not yours.
That is unacceptable, the only original content in the game is the main menu sound track.
To have a project qualify as a game you need fully functional sound and the planned mechanics implement in their finished state. Nor do you use unoriginal assets either. I've seen the models that are planned to be put in yet they are not in yet. You do NOT put an early Access blue print project on sale as a game when it's not. That's not early Access, again it's a blue print project in it's super early stages for alpha. This is basics for the gaming industry and to try and sell this and hide behind the early Access tag is shameful. There is no ai, map is empty and no other places to explore, nothing to find. If I want to look at a desert, that's what Google is for. No making a game isn't easy but this ain't it either chief.
That's just a small fraction I have to say. I see the game going places, I do play the isle on occasion as well and while it may not be the best game out there for creature survival. It should be a decent inspiration for this game which I say lightly because this is absolutely not a game right now. They asked for 12 grand but when that was reached, they kept putting in more milestones and rewards to build incentive. The money was flowing in, they knew what they were doing there too.
I chose to support it in the Kickstarter and I don't have any regrets about it. If it's a scam truly then money lost, that'll get replaced no problem. But I'm not going to be a flock of the sheep about how unprofessional this whole entire thing has been.

Also, it's something to note that, although hopefully put together by the creator, the Alpha environment is underwhelming compared to the forest shown in the demo... And I would guess that the kickstarter probably doesn't have the current environment to show off...
@@cosmicspoon665 Many backed for the sole sake of dragons. The isle didn't come up till actual gameplay footage did and when the word spread in the Isle community.
The redwoods were in at one point last month. But it was no different than the bleak desert with more fatal glitches. It's also market used as well last I checked Jao's interviews.
I wouldn't be so harsh on this if they didn't try to sell this to people for $20. It's one thing for us Kickstarters backing a project. But another to try and sell a rough blueprint on steam for early Access when this is far from being qualified for being a game unfortunately.
But at least it rises interesting discussions when fanbases aren't at eachothers throats

why does almost every early access game say that they'll finish the game in a year?
Blame the AAA industry with the trend of releasing unfinished games then patching them with content later
because they know that people are gonna buy it then when they get the money they will either put it into the game making it good over time or just straight up not update the game or just get rid of the whole thing
Because they think it’ll make people buy it in early access, without the developer having to follow through or it being wish listed.
A year is close enough that some might consider an early access buy, and distant enough that people may forget that game once they’ve played about on it a bit. A more honest estimate will probably mean people wish list the game and possibly forget to actually buy it when it comes out. If they plan on releasing.
Alot of these people just simply do not plan that far ahead. They plan all these different features and systems they want to implement, but do not take the time to actually figure out how long it will take. The other points above are also true
Because they hope the people that buy it will forget about it over that amount of time.
During skepticism period, many got banned - I as well. I'm studying Game Dev full-time and offered Jao my help, he neither accepted nor declined, there was no response, and I was banned! Very friendly dev team. :))))

in Australia if a steam pages advertisers something and it isnt in the game it goes against the consumer rights concision laws so technically steam can be sued for false advertising

Happened to come across your video. They certainly have a lot of nothing in the game right now and have a lot of drama surrounding them as well. I am the mod that had been thrown out and banned from DoD that Jao mentions in the reviews, his discord and IGP slightly mentioned. Unfortunate that there is a lot drama and a lot of so far empty promises towards the community. A lot of what Jao says about it is made up but I know a lot of people are concerned about where the game is gonna go. As of right now, there isn't much of a game at all. I personally don't care so much about the game, but rather how he treats his community regarding his dev status and his game.

the game it self is a good foundation but I do worry about the community as we have seen before that they will just flat out ban and kick you and I can see some kid getting this game with no knowledge of all this drama and say the wrong thing then they can no longer play the game. I don't mean the whole community just the few that give the community a bad name which is sad this game really has potential.

I have seen school projects that have more feature complete than this game, the game is only at it's conceptual stage, I haven't played it but I have seen enough of it to know it's years away from being something that can be enjoyed.
If this game was an Alpha, the gameplay features would be there, the game could be broken and have many crashes for sure, a good example of this is Fallout 76 right now, that's what I would compare to an alpha, it's broken, the gameplay features are there and the game is incomplete but there is enough there to call it a game even if it's an awful game, however Day of Dragons is not a game, it's just a concept
I have seen 24h game jams results that were better tied together, had a more defined aesthetic, and actual features and purpose... This here looks like a glorified IMVU, without the customisation potential...

He has previous experience with game deving, but only MILD, that's been addressed. He also is a very experienced coder- just for other things that wasn't gaming. He's actually adapting & adjusting really fast, a lot of the stuff in this video has been addressed- this is mostly just youtube drama that people are milking now.
He can take criticism- but a lot of the people claiming to have "critiqued" were spreading false info unintetnionally (to start with), and harrassing him down right. It caused him to become a bit of an asshat for a time- but he's chilling down now.

And yes- he was working on it for years, it started as a hobby, development is far more than just the coding- concepts, design, he didn't really get stuck into it until his father died. I believe people are more akin to soaking up the drama than looking for actual facts & understanding the situation. Has he made poor decisions? Yes. But he didn't ask for the game to blow up as big as what it did- but he is still taking the steps to make the game. Hiring the right people- the one thing he is adamant about though is hiring another coder. WHICH may change in the future, YandereDev was very much adamant about being the only coder- but in due time he hired someone else.
I think the game would have been better off as a free tech-demo as oppossed to an EA release on steam. But alas- I still believe a lot of people have unjustified hate or misunderstandings with a lot of the info in regards to the game & the dev itself. People just seem to want to be angry.

People calling Star Citizen a glorified tech demo clearly don't know how little money goes into the _Demo_ and how much goes into the _Tech_ in a Tech Demo...putting the same amount of money into _both_ makes it a _GAME._ Star Citizen's is at least moving to being a game, not running a KS with flipped assets to poof off the face of the planet when it completes.

Early access is a system meant for titles close to market or that have most of the premise in place. Not things that are glorified tech demos where “everything is a placeholder”
The most disappointing game for me that turned out that way is Vox. The developer behind the game, though, he had some genuine passion. He made the game engine from scratch and wanted to make a RPG full of random worlds, NPCs and sidequests. Sadly I think he reached too far with regards to content, and most people got stuck with what amounts to a mini sandbox with a few enemies to fight. He made the game's code open source, but he should also try to pull the game from the Steam store

Careful man, the community of this game aren't... The nicest.. To put it simply. They tried to witchunt IGP, and attack anyone who critiques the game and the devs.
Hell Anthomnia got an email from one of the discord members talking about his dog, saying how and I quote "It'd be a shame if someone broke into his house and gutted him."
You can glitch into rocks and stuff around the spawn and clip into the world, and also get stuck lol.

You know isle started the same right? You could clip because the map is a place holder. In usles early days you could fall through the mountains and random dips. Only recently did they add terrain allignmet that stops world clipping

Right now DoD is a game with no original content, just because the isle was similar doesnt mean its okay for DoD to do it. They have been in development for twoish months and their animator doesn't start until his contract finishes next month with something else he is animating. DoD has multiple uigu quality custom models waiting for animation They aren't even early Access yet and people act like it's the final game, it's in Alpha which they even have on the main menu.
Placeholders aren't and Isle things they are an all game thing, transactions aren't only EA and many games do it. Circle jerk combat is on EVERY 3D game that involves player v player combat. They plan on having combat involve grabbles, dives, dodges. It won't just be ass eating simulator like every other game.
All games have clipping. Most games don't start with terrain alignment. Some finished games don't even have it. Getting stuck in placeholder maps that aren't intended for final release is normal and will get fixed with their own map

Nobody's treating the game like a full game, and nobodys expecting it to be. but right now this "game" is not even a real game, since theres nothing to do. you literally just sit around and wait. a $20 game where you just sit and wait. You know what else you can get for UNDER $20? Katana Zero, Minecraft, Terraria, Castle Crashers, Subnautica, The binding of Isaac, stardew valley, undertale. All of these games were made by small studios or just 1 person. Stardew valley was made in 1 year by 1 person, And its $15 and its a great game.

@@sususketches the old models weren't custom at all. They were bought from the scam game The Stomping Lands. Rex, carno, galli, shant were all bought from that game after the dev ran away with the money. The current puerta model is still the Stomping Lands model.
With all the people they are highering, contracts for work and the models being rigged next month it's not unlikely at all. It just won't happen as fast as people want it to. Nothing shows that it won't happen other than a new dev, but he is hiring very skilled talented people that could destroy him if he ruined their reputation by running away.
Day of Dragons hasn't even been OUT six months. It's only been in development since october (the end of their kickstarter) THREE months ago and only came out to public bought alpha last month

A few other things to consider, there has been no mention of a storyline, so single player sounds pointless unless you just wanna run around and get eaten by the "promised" AI monsters at some point. No quests or pve friendly servers from how it sounds. I get it's survival but sounds so bland. No special quests to branch off to another dragon tree like Monster Hunter does with weapons. Have specialized attacks depending on your tree. I would have that kind of stuff in the Early Access to figure out what needed to be tweaked and improved for more enjoyable access. Even if it was just a few trees, would make it worth while like The Forest, you at least got to upgrade certain items so increase damage etc as you progressed. I may not have been in the gaming industry but I enough friends whom are concept artists, coders and video game artists who have said 500k should have gotten him along far enough to make a small but fleshed out game that he can expand and there's no pressure folding off on putting it to EA until you have actual time consuming assets like that. Jao's just giving himself more pressure and if he falls under the pressure, he cheated people of that money and lost total trust where another chance to kickstart/fund a game of any sort will not happen. I know people will say he's only had 2 months to work on the game but he should have held off making it early access and should have held off with even starting funding till he had a base of the game set up on his own. I've funded enough products where they had actual prototypes or all the artwork was done and ready to be printed etc and the people just put their time towards ensuring it was worth it. I was one of the first Alpha players for The Forest and they had a decent bit of stuff to keep us preoccupied already but they also kept us properly updated beforehand when it was closed beta then open, yes bugs and loads of things were added over the years but it was to have us pass the time more before completing the game, the enemies were basic looking but are now more detailed, same with animals and the character randomizing. Sorry I'm just going on but there are so many things he didn't think about and should have gone to someone with experience first.
The Isle isn't like what it was in 2015 anymore. It's come a long way now and still developing more features with better maps and more dinos to play. They sometimes hold special events on certain servers for their players. They have a better stat screen, a body decay/gore system, you can use scent, day & night cycle with night vision, you can nest in players and so on. Just make sure you read the rules first when joining any server so you don't get in trouble for rule breaking.

Also it only takes an hour to read flight/attack stage. That's the time it takes to grow a utah in the isle. Jao made it very clear he hated long growth times that the isle has so he made it easier for people to get their dragons on his game.

I feel like the concept of a dragon survival game is pretty boring in the first place. Unless the devs went with a single player spore-like route, or maybe somehow had a dragon crafting/base/resource system in place (but let’s be real that’s never going to happen) then maybe there would be some sort of gameplay loop.
Instead its wait half an hour to grow big and fly, enjoy shitty pvp, and then die. Might as well just be a slow, janky, dragon BR.

Isle started with placeholders from TSL and still do. All the foliage and rocks are from the market as well.
@@splitdragon3004 I suppose I was also disappointed when I expected a lush winter wonderland redwood biome to explore, but only got 3 puddles and a few rocks to enjoy. Even Google images are riddled with screen shots of them woods. I also enjoyed watching videos of them flying through it.
To top it off last night two full grown dragons spawn killed me the moment I hatched. The wait in the bushes and stare at a pile of dirt where eggs spawn. Moment players pop out they kill them, then return back to hiding. They did that for over 2 hours. (server controlling) they called it.
So yeah some of us are feeling cheated. Only reason the game is loading quickly or hardly lags it lack of anything. They should of waited to launch the alpha game much later. What was the rush? Did they need more funds for the 500k?
And people harp on the isle, yet at least all that stuff is theirs and theirs alone! And it has lore! Unique mechanics! Stuff to do!

All the assets are placeholder - ALL of them...models, terrain, animations, etc. That leaves what for any non-programmer to really base any info on? That video from IGP that this dude references has zero DoD gameplay in it, which he failed to mention - that game IGP is playing was made by IcyCaress in a relatively short time using a lot of the same downloaded assets. He even has a link to download Icy's game in the description.

@@Dashierez The KS was for three custom dragon models. They only wanted 12k to get those custom models. The person they hired isn't contracted to start work officially until next month.
The game just happened to blow the absolute fuck up more than intended. But they have shown how they used the money- they've got a soundtrack, and custom sounds made by the guy who works on subnautica's creature sounds. That's in game.
Due to the game also blowing up majorly, the person contracted to do models ended up wanting more money as well.
When i play an early access game, I expect to have a tleast 80% of the game completed not 5%
I don't trust DOD, never have its always given me a weird feeling when every its spoken about. Its horrid. it may just be me for when i studied at university for concept art and got a good insight of the Games and Film industry from it, though so far this does not sound like a game developer to me. The game SHOULD NOT HAVE PLACE HOLDERS THIS EARLY! let alone placeholders that are not their own.

The game is literally the same as it was two months ago at the end of the kickstarter. I thought that they would at least have their map set up with the biomes they kept talking about, but there was nothing. I actually just sat there for 45-50 minutes waiting to be able to fly. I left the game after 15-20 minutes of fly and finding nothing interesting (Pookie was fun to mess around with for two minutes). There is no gameplay unless you're messing around with friends but that also isn't gameplay; that is you just having fun because of friends. Anthomnia stated something like that too: the game was only fun because of his friends. I was able to get my money back because I purchased it through steam which was great because I can start seeking an actual game to play.
I really wanted this game to succeed, and I chose to believe in it's development crew and Jao even after the IGP drama, but, like most of the community, I am disappointed.
It's because of Anthomina and his legion of fanboys. He's the one pushing the game so hard hoping it'll be a dragons version of The Isle

I'd like to see the significant changes of 0.1, 0.2,etc... this shall be interesting...)

Development doesn't just equate to code- concept design, world design, character design etc all counts as working on the game. He was working on the game as a side hobby, very rarely up until his father passed away. Then when the KS blew up he's dedicated 12+ hours a day almost to working on the game.

Mizu Sky it had drinking and eating, plus a more interesting map, don’t get me wrong the isle came a long way. But it was in a far better state than this game.
Valve doesn't just get a fee from the listing. They get money from each purchase of games as well. This is why they are perfectly fine letting people peddle garbage on their store.

When you are mentioning placeholder assets it doesn't necessarily mean that they are MARKETPLACE assets, those could be assets made by a studio in it's rough shape as a placeholder, in order to not waste time and focus on the core, to be switched for a higher quality later in the pipeline. Just little things that caught my eye since you mentioned that multiple times
Most of those assets were unfortunately marketplace though. They did not make much, if anything.

I saw this on kickstarter 10h or so before the deathline and was seriously thinking about backing it but 10h were not enough for me to do my usual Background checks and giving me the time to carefully think about really making that purchase and I'm genuinly happy I missed out on that.
I haven’t watched the vid yet, but these assets are just placeholders. They’ve already released images of the custom models they’ve been working on, and even have custom sounds for them that were from what I’ve heard created by someone who created the sounds for subnautica.

I mean, the dragons themselves look cool, as well as the animations. It's _intresting_ that those are cool, but the rest of the game is bland. Either they stole these models and animations from someone, or they all focused their attention to models and animations. A shame, cause I cannot actually recall any good dragon games.
They're all place holder models/animation. Their model maker is contracted to start in january.

I think the concept of being a dragon in a survival game would be dope. I imagined a game where I could choose to play online, or solo play where I could play a survival mode against AI. I imagined there would be dinosaurs, giant bugs, mountains, various landscape, and all kinds of shit that can kill you. However, this right here is a dramatic let down.
That's what this game is going to be in time. Different biomes, different elements of dragon, AI & single player. Can be PvP or PvE but currently- it's just the bare, bare bones because people were pushing for something when the KS blew up.
so apparently there's another game on the Steam Store called "Draconia" and it's sporting itself as a Dragon Survival RPG game as well...I immediately thought of "Day of Dragons" as the trailers seem to use a lot of the same "placeholder assets" as Day of Dragons...
