    Incredible video and information from someone with firsthand experience! I’ve read countless blogs and comments on plowing with a half ton truck and it’s amazing; many of the people saying, “yes you can with no problem” actually talk about first hand experience doing it with a half ton, while the comments from people saying, no you’ll destroy your truck and it doesn’t have the power” never mention first hand experience, they are just offering opinions.

    One of my favorite trucks to plow with was an early 00s Chevy 1500 - regular cab, short bed. It was super maneuverable in tight places like parking lots and condo complexes.

    Thank you for your channel!I very m uch appreciate your honesty.I also admire the interaction with your son and how your instilling your work etic on him,something very much missing in the youth of today.I've plowed for 16 years,mostly large parking lots and a few driveways.I've used mostly 1 ton and one 3/4 ton trucks,mostly with a V-blade.I decided to downsize(I'm getting older and I don't want to deal with the problems associated with it)and just do driveways.This year I traded in my Ram 3500 with a V-plow for a Ram 1500 regular cab,short bed with a Fished SD 7 1/2" plow.I was very concerned that I made the right choice.We had about one foot of wet snow the other day,the 1/2 ton did great.Where I live,it's plow,shovel and salt.Thank you again for reinforcing my decision.

    i've been plowing for 4 winters with an 87 chevy 1/2 ton, w studded tires. i enjoy it. plow is only 6'6" meyer. takes me a little longer to move snow sometimes, but it was a $2,000 truck/plow. affordable to fix for sure.
    i always thought i needed a heavier duty truck. then i plowed with a nice 2016 f250 w/ 6.7. and definately more weight to push snow around, but also seemed to get stuck more often (cheap tires maybe).
    i'm back to plowing with my 1/2 ton 87 chevy. does great.
    hope to put a plow on my 02 f150 this season or next, so i have backup, but really i just like to spend money.

    I’ve plowed both residential and commercial properties with a 1/2 ton pickup truck and years ago with a Chevy Blazer. My current 1/2 ton plow truck is an 05’ Chevy that I now use for only my driveway and a couple of neighbors. I have an 8’-6” Hinicker on it and all I did to the truck was crank up the torsion bars a bit. (About 1-1/2 turns) Yes the front end does drop a bit but not as bad. With the exception of the rear spring shackles rusting out(and the body is pretty much crap) I haven’t had any major problems caused by snow plowing. But like the guy said in the video. “Don’t beat the hell out of the truck.” If you’re easy on it it’ll plow just as good as any other truck.

    I mainly mow and landscape but I’m responsible for over 40 commercial properties such as Walgreens, Public Storage, Academy Sports, etc. I mainly pretreat with salt before “storms” are supposed to hit. Usually only snow flurries, and these clients still always want it. Things are tough here (Chattanooga, TN). Impossible to find ice melt aside from Lowes/Home Depot. I cannot find anything cheaper unless you buy a truckload of 18 pallets.
    I’m really looking for a plow because I feel one year we will get a true snow and if it’s happened in the past, I would have been absolutely screwed as I’ve never had a plow before.

    Seen some incredible plowing with TACOMAS. People don’t understand that don’t do it… maneuverability is huge. People use jeeps. Growing up in buffalo, saw tons of k5 blazers. 1500 trucks for plenty of power and a little maneuverability. Best of both worlds. Nice video! My plow vehicle has been a 1999 Jeep XJ Cherokee for a decade, recently I picked up a used 7.5' plow for my F150. The 7.5 pushes a whole lot more, but is less maneuverable than the Jeep. In addition I find my rear sliding sideways thanks to the limited slip diff. Overall the half-ton is great for larger driveways. As you said, don't abuse it... I get some momentum before dropping the plow, and gain momentum to the end rather than slowing down and hitting the gas again at the end... Rarely do I use my brakes to stop, the snow does it for me.

    @LoneWolfSnowplowing 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Of course a 1/2 ton works fine assuming you keep everything relative. Lighter truck, lighter plow. A 1/2 ton truck with proper snow tires, counterweight and a 7.5' straight blade can plow better than a 3/4 ton with a 9.5' V. Surely it's less efficient, but I've done well with a 1/2 ton in the past. It's about the setup and what you're trying to do with it.

    • @CountrysideStrong
      @CountrysideStrong  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree until you wrote less efficient. The fact it costs less to buy, less to repair, better on fuel, and usually easier to get into tighter spots.... It's way more efficient. I've had roughly the same plow routes for years through multiple trucks. I get it done no faster with my 3/4 than I did with the 2 half tons I had prior.

    • @LoneWolfSnowplowing
      @LoneWolfSnowplowing ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CountrysideStrong yeah when I said efficient I was talking side by side, 1/2 ton with 7.5 blade vs 3/4 ton with a 8.5 V (or larger) or XLS or something. None of anything anyone says matters, it comes down to income minus overhead/costs and what the bottom line is with how far in the black you end up.

    I LOVE THAT old Ford! But yeah, I see plenty of guys with 1/2 ton trucks plowing. Personally I'd prefer 3/4 or 1 ton just because driveline, axles, and front end parts are usually tougher on bigger trucks. But plenty of work can be done with a 1/2 ton. I also prefer diesel, so that means above a 1/2 ton.
