My family has a commercial plowing business in PA. We are going into our 60th year and we had 3 half ton trucks over that time. Two Dodges and a Chevy. They all lasted over 20 years, the Dodges closer to 25 years. Always used low range when the snow started to get heavy. Also put some weight in them. We used them, but did not abuse them. the frames rusted before anything. we also used them for construction in the summer as well. That truck you have will do just fine.
How do the dodge 1500 how do they handle snowplowing and what's the common issue to look for I know maintaining it is number one thing I'm looking at getting into it and just want to know what the best truck would be
Up in thunder bay we get a lot of snow. The pics up here is $75 a driveway . I have the Contracts If I won't come for next year I know it can be good money Just wanna gather as much information as I can
I plowed with a ranger for 2 years and it was awesome. I beefed up the suspension and kept weight in the bed and it was perfect. I just upgraded to a 2016 f350 so I’m excited
With the price of trucks now a days, the difference isnt much. I own a Ram1500 and bought it used for 50k (big horn trim). I did a tradesman 2500 and built for snowplow is only 56k. Crazy.
You absolutely can plow with a 1500... as long as you plow smart... Don't get rushed & switch gears until you're stopped, and watch coolant temperatures on highway due to restricted airflow. Abuse & not paying attention is what breaks stuff. I've used half tons of several brands since the 90's & never had any plowing related issues. currently using a 2015 Ram Laramie crew cab with a Western midweight... Handles it beautifully. I did hafta upsize tires a few sizes to give proper frame to ground measurement so the undercarriage had the correct angle.. My ram doesn't even need Timbrens... Even with the heavier Midweight (vs a lightweight half ton plow which aren't' heavy enough to scrape as well) my front only drops about 3/4 inch lifting that Midweight blade.
Just read your comment on how your dodge ram handles plowing. Keeping an eye on all your Is temperatures is one to do things. Just wanna ask you a few questions. Is it really worth the money getting into plowing. Only reason why I'm asking if because I'd be new to get into plowing . I have used company trucks for plowing so I do have plowing experience just wanna know if it's worth getting into using your own plow truck. Worth all the repairs That you have to do on a truck Is it really worth the money. For snowplow I have talk to some people same say it is and some say don't do it
It can be if you have a lot of residential that are priced really good then it could be… but commercial is extremely profitable if you bid them right and salt. Get no tolerance accounts and half of the events are just salting so minimal wear and tear on the truck. Also when plowing just don’t smash into curbs and such and keep up on the maintenance of your truck and it’s actually very little money you are putting into a truck throughout the winter if any
To a certain extent, it's all relative. Using a little 7.5' straight blade with a properly counterweighted and proper tire equipped 1500 is potentially much better than some 2500 diesel douche with no counterweight, 285 wide all-terrain tires, trying to push a 1,000 + pound V or XLS type plow.

What tires do you recommend?

Did you ever have trouble moving snow with the ranger?
@@Griff319 not really. 4x4 and having ballast weight helped a lot. Some things if they were iced over but not too often

nice video man
Thanks for watching!
The answer is yes positively just plow smart
How's the transmission holding up in your Dodge And have you had any real major issues with it
It’s solid, no issues related to plowing damage, maintenance it and prep it for snow is all you can do
Where do you get those mounts from I’m interested in putting a plow setup on my ram 1500
Your local truck and trailer accessories store
@@Griff319 thank u

Snow Ex
How much did it cost you
Around 7k
Do you have any issues with ground clearance? I have the same plow on a sliverado . The bracket seem low to the ground
I did put 2” spacers in the front because I was super low to the ground without them
@@Griff319 any problems related to added the spacers
Not so far… ran them all last season and never had an issue
What's your ground clearance now with the 2" lift, and do you ever have it hit the ground
I plow with a lawn mower lmao 🤣
What year is that can I use the 2014
14
Can I use a 2008 ram 1500? If so what plow should I be using
I would not plow with a 1500...
Why is that
because ford focus
