@@a.g.demada5263 yeah, the memories of life and the muscle memories are keep in different parts of the brain, and some people can remember how to play piano, dance or sing,cause all of that is muscle memory and apparently it helps them a lot as therapy
Another part of this film I love is Hector has no shoes for the whole film. But at the end when he’s walking across the bridge he has shoes on. His family made him shoes to officially welcome him back to the family and that’s so wholesome lol

You have to respect a breed of dog that's existed since the Aztecs...

@@barefootanimist Not only they have existed since the aztecs, when the spanish conquistadores arrived to Mexico they were hunted down and they survived! The breed was thought to have gone extinct but then people discovered they had been hiding in the jungles of Oaxaca and Guerrero. They are beautiful dogs and there are with hair and hairless like Dante.
Fun fact: The mexica emperor Moctezuma used to have a dog kennel of this specific breed but not for pet purposes but because he thought they were an excellent dish

Girl I feel you. As a Mexican I felt this movie really captured our culture very well and it made me so nostalgic because I haven’t seen my family in a while yet cuz I live in New York while they live in Mexico. When mama coco sang along and at the end when everyone is happy I cried too lmao. Every single time I watch it I cry. It’s such a good film. I went to Disney world after it came out and went to Epcot where they had a coco themed place and my heart was literally so full and happy 😭

I remember doing a psychology project on Alzheimer’s, and how music affects them, in helping memory/sparking memory. I ended up getting extra points for using remember me as an example :)

I don't think it was Alzheimers, but the voice actress for the original CInderella forgot she was Cinderella, however whenever she heard a Dream is a wish your heart makes it comforted her, she loved the song so much but she didn't know why.

When Hector is remembering his last memory with Coco before leaving, the voice actor for Hector had his daughter in the booth with him to sing along.

My biggest fear every year when my family and I put up the offrenda is that I, a very clumsy person, is going fall or drop a candle and set the house on fire. I also have to keep my cat locked in the my room during the night so she doesn't start a fire.

I dunno if you're allowed to but my mom has this battery operated candle on her alter that kinda looks alot like a real candle. I mean I know it isn't the same as a real flame but my mom uses it because it's safer around my kids... So I'm sure it would be okay around cats....

I really love coco because it showed the world how beautiful mexican culture is. The world likes to focus on all the ugly parts of Mexico (the cartel and their drugs and violence) but never the people and the culture
Yeah, one time I was on a cruise and went to Mexico and I actually got to see how beautiful the colors were, the food, and I think there was some music playing. Even though I didn't speak there language I think Mexico is a beautiful historic place.
According to the Blu-Ray extras, they spent six years researching and designing the film, and they had even cast a voice for Miguel, but because he aged past the role, they let him be the stage-hand who tells Ernesto he has thirty seconds...
i’ve always had a big appreciation and fixation on día de los muertos since i first learnt about it in school. the whole cultural tradition has always fascinated me and i just love the tradition which has made coco one of my favourite films. i think it’s such a beautiful way to remember and honour ancestors and family and to celebrate them. i one day hope to visit mexico around the time of day of the dead just to get a little taste of the beautiful tradition (respectfully of course)

Even if this cartoon has a happy ending, i still feel bad for Hector. When he died, Coco was like 3-4 years old. When Coco died, she was already a grandma(I think 80-90 years). Hector had to wait for years just to see his daughter, and he didn't have family on his side (all of them definitely hated him, esp Imelda), + his best friend murdered him. I watched this masterpiece like 20 or more times, and Hector's story is just heartbreaking😭. Sometimes, I think what if Miguel hasn't tried to steal the guitar and all of these things didn't happen, and eventually, Hector just faded😭. But thank god we have a happy ending. Imho, this is the Pixar/Disney's best cartoon ever)

The walk away musician, was really the devoted father who died trying to come home. The clown who died on a sausage, was really the victim of a murder and slander. The loser trying to use a child to get what he wants, is in reality the grandfather and mentor the child needed and still (after 97 years) trying desperately to go home.
So yeah, Hector’s story is sad, and I respect the mess out of this beautiful skeleton dad.

This movie truly did write a good plot twist, one that you didn’t see coming to the very end, but it didn’t leave behind any plot holes
Such a wonderful twist. When you watch it back after you know the end, they seed all the hints right there from the get go. But we don't notice them because the setup is so good.

I always had a connection with this film based on the fact that I moved out of my country to work here in the US. I haven’t seen my family back home for a while and it made me miss them a lot. At the time this movie was release, I was in a very dark place and it brought comfort to know that my family still remembers me, despite how far away I am from them. I’ve visited them maybe twice since I left in 2012, and I would have visited a third time if COVID didn’t happen. I hope to one day spend time with them again.
His great grandmother "coco" looks exactly like my great grandmother. And when my mom saw this movie, she teared up at the ending cuz they coco death reminded her of her grandmother. I did too
Let's admit it, all of us cried during that scene where Coco and Miguel sang Remember Me.
"Criminally underrated." Yes! It's so strange to me that this movie is either an afterthought for many, or people don't even mention it. It's like it's not in the Pixar "canon" for a lot of people. But it is just so beautiful and universal and human.
The final death, Aztec culture!! This is all about our Aztec roots in a present world
This is easily one of my top favorite movies EVER! Not just Pixar. It gets me every time! I’m glad you think it’s Pixar’s greatest because when I ask what people’s fav is, I always hear vastly different answers.
We watched this movie is Spanish class, in Spanish with English subtitles (loved Spanish 4 we just watched movies lol) and most of the class was trying not to cry. I was tearing up, too. It was so good I went home and watched it again in English
I recently watched this with my MIL and she originally was so sad when Miguel lost Hector’s photo. I think she cried when Coco revealed that she kept the ripped part of the photo with her father’s face.
Girl I saw this movie in the theaters & I was probably one of the oldest people there, as I was 19 at the time, and during the last portion of the movie I was BAWLING. I thought I was going to see a cute little kids movie but I was a WRECK. Love this movie though! ❤️😩

I laughed when you said "that's the darkest Disney has gone", that's debatable at best, like the death of Bambi's (spoiler), Clayton's end in Tarzan when you can still see his shadow and Gaston having skull in his eyes when he fell in Beauty and the Beast.

When I saw “Coco” in theaters I was crying because my young sister died months prior of colon cancer.
Even now seeing your reaction video made my throat tight, my eyes cry, and my brain even felt pressure. -My family promises to keep her memory alive for generations to come.
PS. On a lighter note, one of my friends turned his pick up truck into the spitting image of the Toy Story pizza delivery truck.

I love it when anyone from any demographic wants to “play” Viking. I’m more protective of my Native Alaskan heritage. It starts with knowledge and respect. But we all still need to listen to one another.

I always cry when Miguel sings to Mama Coco. It reminds me of how my little brother was with our Grandma. Mama Coco even looked a lot like my belated grandma. The part about her memory fading was also a similarity.

Disney really did their homework with this movie, they spent a loto of time in Oaxaca doing their homework... just for you to know Mama Imelda's animal guide is not a dragon, is an Alebrije (a magical combination or animals and spirit of nature) and Dante turns into one because the aztecs believe that xoloescluintles were your guide after you die, the land of the dead aesthetics is inspired by mexican towns and the aztec underworld (Mictlán) combined...
When I saw this movie I immediately thought of how we don't set an altar in my family and I was terrified by the idea of my mom's mom to be forgotten...

Also the theory around the fandom as to why the family didn't see Miguel on stage: The song that Miguel and Hector were singing was - according to the director - actually one that Hector wrote FOR Imelda. No doubt that she (if no one else in the family) recognized the song AND the voice. Which had to have been a gut punch with all the assumptions she had about Hector at that time. 😫 Any and all music and even the utterance of this guy's name has been banned, so it doesn't surprise me that they wouldn't have even glanced in that direction when they had bigger issues to worry about. And they sure wouldn't have recognized Miguel's singing either.

I didn't have high expectations for this movie, but I immediately fell in love with it when my wife and I watched it. Such an amazing movie.
I got a little to stressed because my hole life i’ve seen it in spanish because i’m from mexico so like yeah, and it makes me kinda anxious the fact that they speak spanglish but at the same time I was in pain because I can’t see that movie because it reminds me of my great-grandmother and I horribly cried 🥺

I remember I watched this in 7th grade and I was being dramatic while crying and I was trying to hug my friend, but she yelled at me and pushed me away. i remember when this movie came out in theaters and there was a 15 fucking minute frozen "short" before it. disney shot themselves in the foot with that one, it was the first thing that actually made people pissed off at frozen en masse. a couple weeks in, the stopped playing the short. it seriously infuriating, even the kids in the audience were annoyed by it

The one scene that ultimately made me cry was the realization that hector was the true great grandfather
Miguel was fingering the chords on the guitar that he was actually playing, and the famous guitar had a gold tooth, foreshadowing Hector's being Miguel's ancestor.
If you look at the Land of the Dead, from the bottom, up, you're going to see architecture from the Aztec/Mayan era, to the "under construction" portion at the top.
The detail in this film is such that, Hector's bones, as he's so close to fading, are chipped and worn, aged and dirty, while Miguel's are bright-white and intact.

I remember watching this in school and it was the worst I've ever cried and movies don't even make me cry. I had snot running down my nose and everything. 😂
Music is able to activate memories, the same as smells can. Nothing but "Remember Me" could have pulled Mama Coco out. And she didn't remember just her Papa, and how Mama Imelda used to sing, but she also recognized her daughter, knew what was in her bedside table, everything. Robin Williams and Robert DeNiro were in a film called "Awakenings" that shows some of the same connections between music and memory.

Definitely one of my favourite Pixar movies. My girlfriend and I recently watched it in 3D together, which made it extra magical. Naturally we cried too. Great reaction video! Subscribed, fellow Brit :)

I don’t know that Coco is underrated and got no respect. It got great word of mouth mention after it released. It won an Oscar for Best Animated Film in 2018. I agree it’s a great film. I always encourage people to see it and watch it with family for its great family theme storyline 🙂

Definitely a 10 out of 10. One of my favorite Disney/Pixar movies. I've seen it multiple times and I cry at the end every time. 😭
Important cultural note: in Mexican culture, 'stupid' is actually pretty high up there as far as vulgar goes. Miguel more or less dropped an F-BOMB in front of his grandmother. Worse, he SPECIFICALLY directed it at the OFRENDA, that is, he basically insulted, EXTREMELY VULGARLY, their dead ancestors, the family's efforts to remember and honor them, and by extension his entire family... effectively disowning his family in a swearing rage by telling them he doesn't care if they bother to try and remember him or not. That outburst was no small potatoes, it was like a kid having a screaming swearing rant about how much he hates his family and how much they suck, right to their faces.
It kinda puts his grandmother's sudden flight into a rage and destruction of his guitar into a better context. I mean, parents and grandparents have gone into rage mode over much less than something that huge.

I always love learning new things about other cultures and I hope Disney and Pixar continue to do this accurate representation of more cultures for their future movies so we can see more parts of the beautiful world
As a Mexican, with knowledge of history and traditions, I could say the movie got a few points modified (eg. the altars are a pre-Hispanic tradition before photography was invented and the really important thing was placing the treats that the deceased family member might return for) but they mastered the imagery.
From the colonial "papel picado" ornaments, to the multiple colors of the alebrijes (they are not dragons) to the orange of the "flor de zempazúchitl", to the representations of the underworld, it really reminded me of the Mexican towns, to the colorful celebrations, to the pre-Hispanic art, visually they represented it wonderfully.
I love this movie so much I can never not cry at the remember me scene near the end makes me think of my mom I was always a mommas boy and I wish I was so much more respectful to her before her passing but I know she loves me and knows I love her very much miss her but know she'd want me to live life as full as it can be and now I clean the house since she passed been a few years since then but still remember how great she was I could always talk to her about anything she was one of the very few people I felt the most at ease with my bro is a close second for making me feel comfortable
I've seen a lot of people react to this film, but honestly I think yours is the most wholesome one I have witnessed thus far. 😊
As an aside: my personal headcanon is that they named Miguel's baby sister after Coco.
As a Mexican this is my favorite movie of all time! It capture mexican culture perfectly! Even the little things, i felt so connected, I cried like a baby in the last 20 min!❤️

This film is honestly amazing! The animation, the story, the plot, the origin, the family EVERYTHING! The characters are so likeable also and Dante is SO cute! Idc what ppl say this film is a masterpiece 😌

A little hint that Miguel and Hector are related is in the photo that Hector shows him after using the makeup to disguise Miguel. In it, you can see that Hector has a single dimple just like Miguel, and it's even on the exact same side.
