"Why *are* we watching this show? Sometimes it's just company, loneliness." I would pay a subscription fee to watch Richard Ayoade host a show like this for an entire season.
tjdinvt "try was it something I said?" It only ran for a season and Richard was a team captain not host but it had some cracking moments. David Mitchell hosted it mean between him and Richard dead pan humour was everywher
tjdinvt I think I would as well. He never fails to make me laugh when I see him on TV or on TH-cam videos. If I could get a TV that broadcast programmes about him all day, every day, I think I would take that chance because if I’m having a bad day, I will always be able to watch something about him to make me laugh.
"Does this CD actually exist?"
"Well... this is one of the many metaphysical questions we're adressing tonight, Ed."
Hahahaha
@@suprmuse like yo momma
Richard did such a great job as host, Hope they have him again.
Liam Crowley I agree. I thought he was a good host as well. I want to see him hosting a lot of TV programmes.
Richard Ayoade kind of breaks comedy. He can make a comedian look really scared.
this is a lovely episode. richard hosting, ed sheeran before he was mega famous, and caroline flack looking so happy
It certainly looks different now.
I can't believe this was 4 years ago.
7 now.
Cryptidian, 8 soon

Richard Ayoade
"One of the metaphysical questions we are attempting to answer"... i mean WOW ! Love him!
oh im gonna have so much fun watching this episode.. Richards humor is brilliant!!!!!!!!!
Julia Cerone I agree. He never fails to make me laugh when I watch videos of him on TH-cam or I see him on TV.
I've been so excited for a buzzcocks episode, Love Richard.
awww I love richard can't wait
The algorithm does its thing all these years later
Why aren't we watching the full episode of this? Richard was fantastic in this, and I believe it was his first appearance on the program. 😂
Ayoade for permanent NMTB host!!!
Wasn't quite sure how that was Who Do You Think You Are, but still, Richard's great.
Whoa...this place is a time capsule.
please bring this show back
Best host ever.
Phil is hilarious, but I'm pretty sure they didn't 'get rid' of Simon Amstell...he chose to leave, and he himself said that he was getting bored of the same formula (the guests just waiting for him to insult them). I mean, I don't have inside information or anything - but I think Simon's always been pretty upfront about not wanting to stay too long on anything. And when he was a host the ratings did go up a huge amount, so I doubt they were in any rush to get rid of him...
I think Preston will disagree with the 'guests just waiting for him to insult them' lololol, classic episode :)
Hallelujah, agreed 100%.
I can see that. Good point
Sad seeing Caroline laughing and joking
What?
@@rikzz0r she dead
Why didn't she throw that photograph straight in the bin? I'd be in a bad place too if I had to look at that
No, you're right. It wasn't on last night. It might be next Monday that they'll show this episode.
I'm actually a fan of Phil, but I think I can shed some light. Unlike most comics, who enjoy performing and are good at comedy, Phil's a massive comedy fan who really wanted to be involved. He doesn't have a natural comedic ability, he taught himself instead. Being a massive fan also means he makes special effort to have a lot of comedian friends, which is part of the reason he got on in comedy at all. Amstell cared a lot less about making friends, so Phil would have had backing in that area.
Does anyone know where the full episode of this is?
Series 26, Episode 7 :)
that's if you haven't already found it
Joshua Kent Thank you, do you know of anywhere I could watch it online? I don't mind if it costs money.
as annoying as it is, there's practically nowhere to find it. i've checked the entirety of the internet, and i just can't find it.
however, i suggest paying close attention to the Dave channel. they're a great channel that often shows reruns of NMTB, and they have a nifty little webpage (dave.uktv.co.uk/shows/never-mind-buzzcocks/#) that tells you what episode they're playing next, and when. of course that's only if you're in the UK i think (or have some cord-cutters subscription that has access to this channel)
This is one of the many metaphysical questions we're addressing tonight, Alyssa.
it's a chinese website but a pretty good quality stream. looks dodgy but it is actually pretty damn good ; www.bilibili.com/video/av2171548/
because he's the only one that didn't leave
Matthew Crosby looks like Joshua Topolsky from The Verge.
Holy shit, it was weird to hear Phil (or anyone on TV) say my name at the beginning of the video.
I don't know if this is obvious or I'm missing something, but that's Christina Agulera's picture on the dart board
Simon has spoken in his standup etc. about not liking how he was becoming mean-spirited.
Do u know how to get full episode?
Is there a full version? :(
We have nothing like this in the US.
If we did, it would be written on a 3rd grade level and then dumbed down further so as not to offend religious conservatives, who find unfamiliar words and ideas offensive.
Damn.
Kyle Morton there was celebrity squares in the uk which I think was basically the same thing
Lol Family Feud is the closest we'll get to this (Family Feud is trash btw)
HerrSpuzzmacher It's not religious conservatives that get offended. It's usually the "You can't call a child fat!" kind of people. But even still, are you saying it's impossible to make wholesome yet funny material? Richard seems to be doing fine in this clip. I grew up on Russian movies that were made for kids and adults. They were hilarious then and still hilarious today. Maybe your country and America need to take some lessons.
It's also the product of having a smaller nation. These guests are famous enough to be household names here but not necessarily everywhere else. In America, they may feel like they have too much to lose by going on a show like this.
"Oh ice cream eyes"
I blame Eugene Secret Note Passed Under the Door.
Yeah, there was. If I remember right, Phil's threat to leave got leaked to the public, as well as Simon's antics being the reason for it, so the BBC basically kicked him off the show to keep Phil on. That's why there's a new host pretty much every episode now- they're looking for a replacement, and this in the meantime means the hosts can't pick on people.
Its on next Monday
When Simon left I heard the reason was Phil complained that he was too abusive to guests, not that he was inviting them on in order to abuse them. This is the first I've heard that and I can't find anything that confirms it.
Panel shows aren't like Letterman and I doubt the hosts have much say so in who gets on.
I also suspect that Phil wanted Simon off the show for the standard acterly reason that he was so much more popular and had become the main reason people tuned in.
Caroline had her eye on every bloke there
I got it no one eles did
Why is it on next Monday?? Why not yesterday?
Yeah! And why is it on 4 years 5 months and 28 days ago? Why not this Thursday?
we can dream. I wouldnt mind Paul Foot doing it. Maybe Nick Helm (not sure if it would work) or bring back Bill Bailey
When is this on? Wasn't last night
No I don't wanna wait D:
Wait what, did Amstell really do that? Is there a story behind this?
Phil Jupitus is responsible for Amstell leaving the show? I used to like Jupitus, now I love him.
I want his tie, anyone know where it's from?
I assume it's because of the rivalry between Britney and Christina - Britney likes to throw darts at Christina's face.
0:14 Katarina?
Yeah, he didn't leave. Amstell got kicked off for inviting guests JUST for the sole purpose of taking the piss out of them (Well, that's why Phil threatened to leave, anyway, which lead to him getting kicked off).
Noisettes singer i think.
He always seems like he's in his Moss character, i guess it's just the way it is as other actors are usually different from the characters they play but not him.
the guy that wrote the IT crowd wrote Moss specifically for Ayoade, the character is really an exaggeration of him
Haha yes you're right there.
Kakarot I would disagree, Richard is witty and self aware. Moss is neither of those things.
you'd be surprised to know that it was actually the character of moss that was written for ayoade, and not the other way around. petty technicalities aside, he IS moss.
Strat Man Yeah Moss is an exaggerated nerdified version of Richard, not really like how he acts on any other show
Looking at him next to Phill you realise how much is shouting on this show.
The show hasn't aired yet due to a cancellation last week. Should be on tonight, BBC 2 10pm
That's one of the ways why he was abusive to the guests- he was only getting them on to make fun about them. Seriously,
If you want proof, just pay close- and I mean REALLY close, until you can almost taste it kind of close- attention to some of his jokes about the guests and you can see it- how he delivers the jokes, how his mannerisms look rehearsed- it's clear as day. I mean, as funny as the jokes were, can you blame Phil for wanting to leave, knowing what Simon was doing? It's kinda cruel.
Did he really not like simon? I thought they worked pretty well off each other.
Mark Lamarr was funny.
that's why Simon left? :( aww man he was awesome tho
Simon was getting people on for the sole purpose of taking the piss out of them. Even though some of it was funny, you gotta admit it was kinda cruel on his part- can you blame Phil? Especially considering how great the show was/is without it.
Am I being a Douche or wasn't it on last night? why WHY
Phil's not funny? Then how come he's been on the show- in the same chair, might I add- for years? How come when he threatened to leave because of Simon Amstell getting people on JUST to take the piss out of them, they near-immediately got rid of Simon all together? If he's not funny, he must be doing something right.
ya I've never noticed it before but phil isn't particularly funny. He works as a counterweight to whatever more interesting guy is head of the other team. Or maybe he's supposed to be someone that older people can identify with. "Oo look at the proxy me mixing it up with young hip rock stars" - I'll never understand why they took his side over Simon Amstel, who was hysterically funny. After Amstel left I'm sure the average age of viewership jumped 20 years.
Mark Lamar was outright nasty and I don't think anyone complained about it.
... You're replying to the wrong comment, I think...
Yeah, Mark and Simon were crap. Rizzle Kicks are so much better...
/sarcasm
who is the black girl?
newman41 Shingai Shoniwa, lead singer of The Noisettes.
kinda mad how she’s dead now
HA! Good point. But it can ba a matter of taste as to who is funny and who isn't. I thought both were funny.
jjk9999
Me too.
But I think Phil stopped being funny years ago. He comes across as aggressive.
I liked simon's antics. The show can get kind of pedantic when everyone just pets each other's egos. Most people were good sports about it too, like Jermaine Jackson, who probably got the worst of simon's kind of humor.
Thank fuck for youtube then?
That's why Simon left? Phil is awful! They should have let Phil walk and kept Simon.
Full episode: www.bilibili.com/video/av2171548/ You r welcome.
H
Phil Jupitus has never been funny, sorry.
Ayoade is hot and also quick-witted.
You are conflating different statements. Try to read more carefully next time. At no point did I state or imply that PJ's wit (or lack of) is informed by his looks. Jesus.
I don't know why he stays - it has always been a mystery to me. It's probably more accurate to say that I don't find him funny.
Oh Phil... why do you always have to make things unfunny.
