    Good to see the inside of the flywheel. I point a small fan at the vents full blast during workouts. That flywheel gets really hot.

    I had the same problem. The fix took me more like an hour since I'm not as experienced in repairs as you, clearly. However this is much less time lost than taking it to a shop or shipping to Wahoo! I shared your link with my bike mechanic - he had not seen this particular problem even with having sold many Kickr's!

    I have a failed speed sensor and hoping Wahoo will provide new with circuit board for customer DIY repair. This video provides head start with disassembly. Looks like Wahoo is now using Loctite on their pulley and shaft key as a bandaid for another engineering mistake. Disassembly of the pulley will be difficult without applying heat as you suggested if they indeed use Loctite.

    Great video, really helpful. Managed to get pulley off after worrying I was going to damage it but quick questions about reinstalling bearings: 1) what grease would you use to repack these kickr bearings (might as well do that before they go back); 2) what oil or grease would you use on shaft and around outer edge of gearing where sits in housing. Assume you don't want metal to metal contact but equally assume you don't want whole unit rotating. Advice pls and even trade names of products.; and 3) outer surfaces of reistance magnets slightly discoloured brown ish- doesn't just wipe off, wet finger does nothing and wonder what surface cleaner I could try while flywheel off. Thx!

      Hi Tony,
      As far as the shafts and such go, any grease will work fine, but if you get a good quality wheel bearing grease, then just use that after. The bearings are sealed, but you can pop the seals out, and if you nick or damage them, it's ok, as your trainer won't actually be subjected to water and such. There's too many brands to recommend one... Belray, Superlube, Maxima, Motorex are some great ones.

    You can use a crank puller to remove the pulley. Someone else mentioned it as the inside of the pulley is threaded

    • @handleless85
      @handleless85 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on the version of the kickr. On a v5 it is not threaded

    Great vid! As always! Funny to see that your flywheel has two noticeable marks. I imagine to balance it. Mine didn't have that as it easily came out of true. The first batches I guess didn't have that.

      Wow... big job... That's a problem for Wahoo. They should send replacement parts. I don't think you can "fix" it. It has to be PERFECTLY CONCENTRIC... I mean PERFECT. Any tiny amount not PERFECT will make it wobble and vibrate so bad you won't use it ever again.

    Great video! As others have said, it gives a better understanding of Kickr anatomy (I have a Core), even for those of us who don't know one end of a screwdriver from the other.
    Clearly, you know how to remediate the situation, but did you consider contacting Wahoo? They have a reputation of replacing defective units, even outside of the warranty period (they replaced mine recently). They pay all shipping, etc.

    • @Traxxion
      @Traxxion  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They are a great company no doubt. I was able to avoid the aggravation of breaking everything down, and going without my trainer by just DIYing it. There's a lot of people who will watch this video that aren't in the USA and can't just get one swapped out easily.

    How's your Kickr holding up? How long did you have it before you made this video? The drive shaft seems to be in decent condition compared to many that I've seen. I'm wondering if the condition of those shafts are related to "vibration" of the flywheel at higher speeds (caused by being out of balance). Is your Kickr pretty smooth or do you have vibrations at higher speeds?

    • @Traxxion
      @Traxxion  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mine had maybe 2000 miles on it when it failed. It has no vibration at all, they are very nicely balanced. New bearings only cost a few dollars if you want to change them. Bearing Number: 6003 2RS

    • @riffmeisterkl
      @riffmeisterkl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mattbannantine9651 yes. Found a block of aluminium and used that instead of wood. Wood is a bit too soft as it absorbs the impact. At the same time, Aluminium is softer than steel, so it won’t damage the flywheel axle.
      When I got it off there were some rust spots on the axle.

  • @joyridaz

    What kind of grease do you recommend for the bearings and shaft? Moly?

    • @Traxxion
      @Traxxion  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anything will work on the shaft. The bearings don't spin on the shaft.... the inner race of the bearing sits on the shaft and the outer race and balls spin around it.
      Repacking a sealed bearing is a bit tricky, you have to pry one of the seals off one side with a razor blade at the inner race. It is possible to nick the seal surface. If you do, it doesn't matter as the bearing will never be exposed to water.
      Then any high quality bearing grease will work. Moly isn't the right application.

    • @Traxxion
      @Traxxion  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Moly is intended for sliding surfaces, not for roller ball bearings.
