    since you are already in by the bearings if they have rubber seals like this if you very carefully pick the seals out with a small pick or very tiny screw driver you can repack the bearings with grease. Don't attempt if you are unsure as if you bend the seal at all it will be worse then doing nothing. the bearings are pretty cheap so it may just be worth ordering new ones if you plan to do this job tbh

      And I would absolutely not spray them with WD-40 which is a solvent not a lubricant just in case it leaked past the seals destroying the the grease

    Good video on assembling and disassembling. I would not clean bearings with WD40 and am not sure why to grease the axle, let alone the inner face of the bearings.

      Using WD-40 on the bearings will remove the grease around the ball bearings and make the bearings worse than before

    Great video, thanks. Just to echo other comments. Keep WD40 away from bearings, and grease bearings themselves, not axle. Top quality video on how to open up v5

    Thank you for this video. Although I feel that my bearings are worn I have followed your excellent video and for now my Kickr has ceased to make a dreadful noise!

    Thanks for the vid. Had a weird squeaking sound from mine when it was close to stopping. Opened it up and it looked like the belt had partially derailed itself. Had gone one notch to the right and was slightly overlapping the main roller causing belt-line isssues and wear on one side of the belt. The tensioning roller wasn't perfectly level. Stripped the rollers down, reversed the belt and carefully attached the tensioning plate & roller - not the best design tbh on v4 . Retensioned the belt - added an extra 360o on the allen key to account for stretch & reposition. Sorted. Recalibrated after 15min WU.

      I think the squeaking noise at start of the video is from the belt, not the bearings. I just fixed my KICKR by spraying sone silicone lubricant on the belt. Squeak is gone. No need to remove the belt or retention it.

      Yeah I don't get the point of cleaning the outside of bearings and with WD40 at that. It's a sealed bearing! The wear is INSIDE behind the seal. You have to take the seal off and clean all the grease out inside and then repack grease into them! It is likely that all he has achieved by spraying WD40 on them is thinning out whatever grease that was left inside the bearing and has added grease on the outside, which in the case of an indoor unit that will never see the likes of water on a rainy day, is pointless at best and going to attract dust at worst.

      if you look at the side of the cylinder there is a set screw. It's at the cut out. On some models you look for the counter sunk screw 2-3 mm to take the cylinder off.

  • @kentalstrup9699
    @kentalstrup9699 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    And he is not cleaning the bearings with wd40. He’s removing rust from the parts. As a lot of you write. Sealed bearings. You would probably have problems cleaning the inside with wd40, due to the sealing.
    I’m more concerned by the fact that that a device that is used indoors rust! I don’t care about the wd40. It used to clean af the rust that not supposed to be on an expensive piece of equipment, it is all filled with grease again. So no problem
    The grease on all contact part makes them easier to take apart, and avoid them from rusting together.

      Maybe indoors the sweat creates a salty environment? I sweat a lot, I don't dare to look how mine must be :)

      Just because it’s indoors doesn’t mean it’s not exposed to moisture.

    • @mattkavanaugh5623
      @mattkavanaugh5623 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      WD-40 sprayed on outside of sealed bearings can get into the bearings and dissolve the grease around the ball bearings. For the same reason, you should not use a powerwasher to clean a bike as it can wash the grease out of the sealed bearings.

    The maintenance of this unit is wrong in so many ways. Many bearings should always be renewed.
    Pulley bolt should never be over tightened as shown.

      How often should all this work be carried out?

    • @rossfripp4503
      @rossfripp4503 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@solefreak2 I'd be keen to know this, but I guess "it depends" on many factors such as use, what gear you use for ERG mode (higher gear, more flywheel rotations etc), temperature of use and so on. I had 3 Kickr '18s fail in 7 months, my 4th one has just started making noise 4 weeks out of warranty! Wahoo are replacing it free of charge but this is good to know for my 5th, because I am not sure if they'd replace another one. If I ever do this I will just replace the bearings instead of cleaning them. I will also order a spare pulley bolt and woodruff key, as that is a very common fault.
      I suspect it would do it the world of good to have this done every year, but I would be afraid of bricking it haha.
