most annoying thing about 3d modeling has to be watching a tutorial where they are using a different version so small things are different when making it
Your rythm fits the needs of someone who finds 3D extremely difficult. It's slow and relaxing, no rush, easy to follow along well. And i didn't even know there were layers! I'l definitely sub to you :) .

This is a fantastic tutorial. Spent easily 10 minutes alternating between pause and 50% speed during only the first 1:30 seconds of your video and I've already saved hours learning basic skills far more quickly than if I had simply tried to jump in and figure it out on my own.
You clearly know how to get a beginner going and I thank you for your gift of teaching.
It may take me several hours to get through this whole video over the next day or two but after that I know I will have far more competency with this incredibly complicated interface and the basic skills to both (a) benefit from other tutorials at an accelerating pace and (b) profitably experiment on my own.

Hello, at 4:55 When you use the move tool, my keeps on snapping to the grids or points. It doesn't align with the drawing. Can you please help me ? how am i suppose to stop this snapping.

how did you select two vertices only and made that v shape along his lower body? when im doing it the entire polygon is being selected and im unable to shape.

I'm stuck on minute 4 LOL been doing it for a good 30 minutes. When I try to use scale tool it chooses the whole cube instead of just the vertex.. dont know what to do.
you probably already have the answer to that, what I did was hold Shift down and select the vertices that I wanted to scale
you click so fast on things (46:40) i can't even see them, i had to pixel perfect pause the video to see where you clicked because it was lightning fast. What the fuck were you thinking?

44:40 Duplicate special deasnt work after i combine head with ear, it makes my duplicate spawn on right side and i tryed reseting duplicate special but its not that. Help? Allso you said delete the history but i dont know what you mean by that?

For anyone having trouble with the torso at 4:50 and not being able to select individual vertices without moving the entire object, make sure you have Soft select turned OFF. It is on by default it seems with some of the newer versions, just press 'B' and a message will tell you if it is on or off.

Crtl+Shift and Right click and select component. Nope, doesn't exist. Using Maya 2018. Anybody know where Autodesk has moved that too?
Ah, it is there. Have to make sure your widget is set to move and not just select.

After duplicate special, when i merge the verticles in the middle, it does not merge at all! it's been aligned to the line and it's no gaps at all. i had no choice but to combine both mirrored objects and had to used symmetry to just edit the mesh.

Hey thanks for the video it helped me out a-lot i'm new to modeling characters but Im taking this course for Maya and not to be smart or whatever but at 11:10/50:04 instead of doing all that going into settings deleting faces and making a copy, you could have just turned on symmetry for x, that just makes it a-lot easier for me but very helpful video.
insert edge loop tool works differently in the 2017 version, when I try to move the vertices the others around kind follow the motion instead of staying in place.
Edit: Sorry, my mistake. It seems I had "soft-selection" active. Pressed "B" on accident, it seems.

Hello, i need your help.....i am currently using maya 2015 on my macbook air, and i cant use my left click to move or use insert edge tool anymore, i can move the objects using middle mouse button, but then when i try to use it with left click and drag to select edges, it uses the marque instead, Please help

19:50 I wouldn't recommend target welding, it gives you two 6-point stars, it's better to rotate the upper and lower edge loops, so they would be closer to the middle one in the back

It was a good tutorial but you didn't explain what a marquee selection was which might be obvious to you but I didn't know being new to modelling

The only problem is that, when I do the duplicate special to mirror half of the model over, I get a seam in the middle
why you dont need a hole between the ear and the head but you need one between the head and the neck?
When i duplicate the other half of the body it is not attached. Anyone know how to attach the halves together? pls n thanks.
1. When i m moving vertices to allign with image in side view then the only vertices front or back vertex are moving(one at a time) i have even selected marque.
2. Also when i m extruding arms it is showing error only polygons can extrude but that is a polygon please help i m stucked here.
this is a full compact tutorial about modelling with a simple (but not too simple) object. i feel lilke, after this i can build everything (probably not, but it feels like this).

I had a bit of a problem with the vertex when you extrude it. When ever i did it it always affect the surrounding too aka the cube. even though i selected it it stretch like a toothpick. I'm stuck at it all i can extrude correctly are the faces but for some reason cant get it to work the same with my model in vertex mode
okay, i am VERY new to maya, as in i just downloaded the program today. i was following along with this tutorial and everything was working great until i got to the part about 4 minutes in where you have to shift right click to bring up a menu. i tried about 50000 times, yet shift + right click did absolutely nothing. i googled "maya shift right click not working" to find some solutions, and i only found two. the first said to type "CUI" into the command prompt and it'll bring up a dialogue where you can toggle a setting or something. well the CUI command did not work, and i can't seem to find another way to access that dialogue. the second was to close the program, delete the "prefs" folder, and open it again. that didn't work either. does anyone have any idea what i could do? at the moment i'm stuck and can't go further in learning how to use the program without being able to access this menu.

My multi cut tool is weird. It was fine until 45:00. When I cut the edges it keeps snaps to circles. Like it should slice as a rectangle but then I right click after its done it just turns in to a smooth square and the whole model of the head's size increased a bit. I don't even know whats going on. PLEASE HELP ME :C

At 4:18 how did you make the image plane not accessible? I was having trouble trying to get the "ref" layer (the same way yours looks) under layer 1, without accidentally creating a new layer 2
