    It's a pity Thundarr isn't more widely known; it was one of the most sophisticated of the "saturday morning" cartoons; the dark-themed apocalyptic world and the creepy "wizards" were quite ingenious. Though many that followed in the 80's such as Thundercats, He-Man, etc, had better animation, none quite matched the special feel of Thundarr. I've often thought of writing a story to flesh out its backstory of Thundarr and Ariel's origins; how he meets her as her father's prisoner; how he obtains the Sunsword...

      @melissasites1044 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Please do, I would totally read it. Thundarr was a product of Steve Gerber, one of the brilliant comics writers of the 1970s, so the dialogue and action of Thundarr ring perfectly true to great 70s pulp! It's so good, even though the animation is pretty sketchy. :P

      I think Thundarr had better animation than He-man who's show was half stock footage.

      Thundarr was awesome and reminds me of the later Pirates of Dark Water. Neither series got the credit or number of episodes they deserved. Both shows had memorable, unique settings and animation. Plus, Ariel and Tula look very similar.

      Thundarr had this unique mix of sci-fi and fantasy that I have yet to see duplicated quite as well.
      Please do write some background stories! This show deserves a lot more attention than what it ultimately received.

      I liked that Kirby got to rip off Darkseid, his own character, who he did not own the rights to, since he created Darkseid for DC, which belonged to Warners by then. Way to get around copyright and get paid, dude!

      Oddly I feel Thundarr also had better "animated" in some ways. The people in He-man looked more like statues and the action stale. In He--man the fighting was more of a throwing contest between the 2 sides where people got killed in Thundarr in a laser or sword fight where they really do go for the kill here.

      No. He actually comes back in a later episode, the only villain to ever do so (on this show).

      No, he's not. Look at the show's opening scenes. Thundarr was a prisoner and a slave. Maybe he was forced to fight in the gladiator pits for the spectator's amusement. If you watch the show in it's entirety, Thundarr openly hated for any human to ever be enslaved. He-man was a prince and never a slave.

      Back in 1981, some one would of said who is He-man? Sorry if some one rip off some one, it would be He-man ripping off Thundarr.

      @@jonyfish8852 honeslty Thundarr uses tropes that used to be more common ins ci-fi than today.. Lightsabers? not one of the tiny handful of original ideas in Star Wars.

      A run away comet came between the earth and the moon and pretty much destroyed man's civilization. This show is set 2 thousand years into the future, but you'll see devastated landmarks to let you know where Thundarr and his friends are at: like the Statue of Liberty, Las Vegas, the ruins of Manhat (Manhattan, New York), etc.
