    I always preferred the single question format as opposed to one person getting to ask question after question.

      Absolutely: Lolita, Alfie, Next Stop Greenwich Village, The Scalphunters, The Diary of Anne Frank, Wild in the Streets, to name but a few, attest to that.

    Of course I remember seeing her sultry look in old movies but it is still an eye opener to compare her to how she looked playing Roseanne's grandmother on the tv show. give her credit for being comfortable within herself.

    She was great in A Patch of Blue with Sidney Poitier. She looked every sexy in that movie and pretty with quite an attractive figure.

      Shelley deserved that Oscar for A Patch of Blue. The audience loved to hate her.

    Even when she was still gorgeous she gravitated to 'blowsy' but meaty roles. Didn't give a damn, just wanted to ACT.

  • @pal035s
    @pal035s 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The "bows to the audience" comment was meant for the Bette Davis appearance in 1963 that preceded this one. Gotta fix that.
    But hey... Shelly's Winters' brief detour to Stopette before saying goodnight to the panel is as good as any bow to the audience. Terrific and unintentional and check out her flying pattern.
    What a pilot !

    And later on she did a famous water scene too. :D She always reminds me of Angela Lansbury...the same sort of characters early on that were transformed in middle age.

    I had just read her book back in the 70's which she mentioned that Melvin Douglas was her fave director. So when I saw mr Douglas I told him what she said and he was smilling . That was whn I was at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Mr Douglas was with the guy that played Mr Maytag in the ad and he was in Harvey too. I do not remember his name .

    The quibble over A PLACE IN THE SUN has got to be one of the most stupid and devious moments on this show. Anyone would know what Cerf was referring to, and he justifiably seemed irritated ("That should be an easy enough question to answer"). As for Shelley, one forgets that she was once considered a sexpot instead of the strident plump suburban housewife type she was later cast as.

    @hankaaron1961 Didn't she fall out (as in accident)? I seem to remember that in the trial against Montys character, the question of his guilt was based on whether he tried to save her life or not after she fell out. Fantastic film by the way, but it's a long time since I've seen it, so my memory might fail me on this point.
