    How cute she looked when Bennet Serf said " That voice can only belong to only one Lady in the world and that is Judy Garland" She derived so much pleasure entertaining and pleasing her audience and her Audience never left her side which is why she always was kind to her fans.. God Rest your soul Judy!

    The thunderous applause when she walks in, and when asked if her voice was so well known that it would be immediately recognizable, and if she sings and dances - well, it was 100% deserved. She was the greatest entertainer of the 20th Century, and even a perfunctory glance at her vinyl and celluloid legacy will confirm that bold statement. She was revered by people, and rightly so. Judy Forever...

    Drunk or not, she was, in my opinion, the greatest female performer of the 20th century. No one will ever approach her talent. Today's singers may have the vocal gymnastics but they do not have the 'clear as a bell' vocals that one hears from her in "Wizard of Oz" and the innumerable other movies that most young people are not even aware of. Watch her in "Meet Me in St. Louis" sometime. She was brilliant. May she rest in peace.

    *For those who don't know, Senator Dirksen was quite famous at the time and had a well known nickname: "The Wizard of Ooze". It was Tony Randall's witty way of saying he knew it was Judy.*

      @VesnaVK 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for explaining what that was all about!

    • @akrenwinkle
      @akrenwinkle ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@VesnaVK "The wizard of ooze" was a very inside political joke and hardly known to the general public. Tony was referring to Judy's low-pitched nicotine-infused voice. She had just spoken before Tony made that remark. Later she explained that she had the flu and so sounded like "Senator Somebody." Judy, who really had no interests outside of show business, had never heard of Dirksen.

    • @VesnaVK
      @VesnaVK ปีที่แล้ว

      @@akrenwinkle the way she responded when he say Senator Dirkson, she had heard of him.

    • @akrenwinkle
      @akrenwinkle ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VesnaVK Nope. She laughed because the audience laughed heartily at Tony pretending to mistake her for a man. Judy at least did know that Senators were men. (Of 100 senators, only 1 was female then.) Instead of getting Dirksen's name wrong- it's the first time she ever heard it- she called the Senate Minority Leader, a towering power broker who had been around forever, "Senator Somebody." Judy's furthest foray into politics was trying to get JFK in the sack. After all, she may have reasoned, Marlene Dietrich did.

    Judy Garland will always be THE WORLD'S GREATEST ENTERTAINER. Her talent was GOD given. Just listen to her Carnegie Hall CD. The mere mention of her name still screams TALENT.Judy had the ability to touch the soul of every person who listens to her voice. Judy's unique gift was that she lived each song she sang. Millions of people on youtube alone, type in her name to hear this LEGEND's voice. Show Biz today, lacks real talent and new fans emerge every day when they hear Judy for the first time.

    I am one of the few who felt her singing was the least of her talents. She was above all a tremendous actress. Few give her the credit she deserved as an actress, but she was totally competent playing any part. I refer everyone to her performance in "Judgement at Nuremberg". It was strictly a dramatic role late in her life, and she nailed it.

    March 1967 live and in color. I wish somebody at the time had the presence of mind to save a color videotape of this episode. Considering the number of Judy's admirers on the west coast, I am surprised that somebody did not in fact save the delay broadcast videotape of this episode.
    I suspect there are clips of Sunday night WML in color recorded in commercials and news reports, but it will take a TV archeologist to locate them now after all these years.

    Judy's voice was extremely recognizable & even when i close my eyes and listen to her first response when the clicker didnt work. Judy was a good sport & very funny. Her face glowed hearing the audience go wild each time they applauded. On many occasions when she wasnt in great voice, she respected her audiences & she came alive as a show went on. Her 1st Hollywood Palace TV ahowin 1965 is proof that her voice got stronger. Watch her during the "palace medley" @ the end of the show, on TH-cam.

Its is so great that you posted these Fratellio because of getting to see a glimpse of the people who had long careers in entertainment because of actually having skills and talent. Now the movies try to either be shocking, or eye candy with special effects; or even both. There was more people doing entertainment back then who really had skills and talent then now.

    God, it kills me that they cancelled the Judy Garland Show. You can tell how proud she was of it. When Tony Randall asks if she's equally known as a television performer, she hesitantly rings the bell because her show was only on for one season, but when the audience applauds, it looks like she wants to say thank you to the audience then she rests her head on John Dalys' shoulder to give him a hug. She was so great.

However, in my mind it pales slightly to the reception given to Jimmy Durante on the January 31, 1965 episode, both when he entered the stage and when he left. It was a total love fest. Also, the audience greeting for Liberace, on the June 3, 1956 show is almost as grand. Both spots are posted here on YT.

    Garland was just such a one-of-a-kind person. See her early MGM films for simply incredible dancing! Her dance moves were without flaw in The Pirate and several other films. Considering the popular music of her day, her voice was kind of edgy in an interesting way. There were times that her voice, too, was without flaw. She got in trouble early on as a teenager while making The Wizard of Oz, cause of the ridiculous demands of long hours of film work-too much for a kid. Pills, & later, drink.

    I was re-watching the final episode of WML when John Daly was the Special Guest. He explains how he never appeared before as he was the shows "last minute guest" 'just in case'. He nearly was, as they were down to one minute with one guest before they were going to appear on-air. It's widely said to be this episode with Judy Garland Daly was talking about.
