Hey there, fresh subscriber brought here by the Phoenix Point video. Any chance you've heard of the "Terror From the Void" mod? It's basically an enhanced edition, with tons and tons of improvements over the game. It would be very interesting to know your thoughts on it
One of my funniest moments was when I used a wrench to knock out a guard with a melee attack, threw it to knock out a second, used a second wrench to knock out a guard with a melee attack, threw that second wrench at a fourth guard to knock him out, and then repeated this pattern with a third wrench to knock out a total of 6 guards in one room. The hilarious part was just imagining someone triple-wielding wrenches like some sort of juggler or like Roronoa Zorro wields his swords. Another funny moment was when I went into a mission to capture a particular target alive, but forgot to bring a concussive weapon with me, and the only solution I could think of involved me shooting myself and my target out a window.
I still remember that one capture ghost clause (must not kill nor knock out anyone, must not be seen) mission with a timer of, like, 10 seconds of in-game time. I somehow managed to get to the room with the target, using even those gadgets I usually disregarded as basically useless. And here I am, standing in front of him, a mere second or so before he reacts to my presence, around 3 seconds till the mission ends. I strike at him with my concussive hammer. He's got armor. I have no guns at all, not even talking AP concussive ones which I need here. I throw my hammer into the window, spacing the room. We both fly out and I pick him and myself up with the pod. Mission success! I loved this game ever since.
Give Tom Francis' first game on Steam, Gunpoint a go as well. It's this game's linear, but quite entertaining projectile-jumping trap-wiring PI predecessor. And its dynamic soundtrack is absolutely FABULOUS.
LOVE Gunpoint! It was the first of his I played, acquainted me with Francis' style of gameplay and humor. Very much looking forward to Tactical Breach Wizards.
I have a very fond memory of Previously Recorded playing Gunpoint and Jack punching a downed guard literally 1,000 times and saying, "It's like a point and click adventure game, where my fist is the game and their face is the adventure."
Love Gunpoint. Still play Heat Signature almost daily. And the beta testing for Tactical Breach Wizards has fantastically funny dialog and great game play. Really looking forward to the full release.
This game is the reason I really respect Tom Francis. He noticed a lot of players didn't like the perma-death of characters, so he added an option to turn it off. Lesser devs would not do that.
Legit top tier game. I always go for the warzone missions. The panic when you see a missile is about to blow up the part of the ship you're standing in is amazing
I'm really glad you included Asli Sixty in the video, she's a *great* representative for not only the inherent humor of the game but also the world-building, and she might honestly be my favorite NPC in the game!
Jammers do have counterplay, a long range crash beam can destroy one from outside the radius. i haven't tried the subverter yet but they might work too
A fun thing in this game is the hidden mechanics. My favorite is the variety of ways you can destroy ships-or be destroyed by them. You can also pilot them. Can you shoot? Yes, you can! You can pick up a quest, hijack a random ship, and use its guns to destroy your objective or just weaken its defenses. Split up the ship and board only the part you're interested in. It’s an impressively extensive hidden mechanic.
I have no idea how you have managed to leave out the single most important fact about this game. Slipstreams stack. Multiplicatively. Chugging four of them allows you to run into a room full of guards, grab the keycard, off one of their backs and disappear, and they wouldn't even be able to percieve you.
@@NafenX Eh, that one's pretty simple. If you Visitor, then Visitor to a different spot, the first Visitor yanks you first, back to your starting location, then the second one yanks you to the "midpoint" location when it triggers. It takes a bit of time to go off, but it's a great way to get stuck in places you can't get into normally - Intentionally or otherwise. If I had a pair of self-charging Visitors...
aw man i know this game, a real joy this one. one crazy mission i remember was explosive started to get slung around and part of the ship go blown up, the part leading to my objective of an item. i tried to access it with my pod but it wouldn't fit but then i figured if the ship went a certain direction and i voided myself i could slip into the cut off section and get what i needed and it fuckin worked and to think i did it all while the ship was barreling towards an enemy station because i tripped the alarm.
The gameplay of heat signature is amazing - but there are certainly some structural issues. I wish the whole game was structured more like the daily challenges are, or even some sort of FTL- or StS-like map - something to give you a reason to care more about the outcome of individual missions
Heat Signature is a fantastic game. I have a ridiculous number of hours in it and still play it almost daily after having had it since about when it first came out. So looking forward to Tactical Breach Wizards...
Hey, thank you for sharing. I hadn't heard of this game, and now I'm looking into it, just because of you. Sharing something you like did make a tiny difference.
Since playing State of Decay 2, I've completely come to believe that gameplay (when it's really good) is the story. This game looks like a gem for a small circle of people, which has not yet gained fame in mainstream circles, and this makes it feel even more valuable and personal. I see what you did with Miami Hotline music in the background ;) You got new subsciber (after XCOM videos really) but I glad to be here now
Ah Heat Signature, one of the few games I've 100% the achievements on and beat 3+ times. On the topic of the writing, i enjoy the Sovereign character. His explanation for a corporation turning into a living creature was a great read. For combat my favorite strategy was dual wrenchs, the throw command gets you a ton of value. You probably already know the throw glitch with traps. You throw a trap, teleport it to yourself, then activate it and it uses the momentum and direction from the throw while being active. Since you progress through ships, I find using traps on purpose really difficult cause it's uncommon to retreat. But yeah, Heat Signature is crazy good. Plus I love the mechanics that push the player to make new characters. The lore explanation being that their exploits are boring to the unliberated populace is just so good.
Adios spotted, based af. Also Heat Signature is my favorite game maybe ever and I refuse to accept that I will one day not play it again, you've only tempted me into another run.
@wisecrack3461 I talk about Adios in my Zen games video! And Tactical Breach Wizards from the same dev as Heat Sig is dropping soon I think, for more of that defenestration goodness
Alright, so, why the hell did Steam not recommend this to me? I mean I'm all about scifi and rogue-likes and all that. This is right up my alley. Steam hath failed me T_T
Heat Sig is great, it's a good pick up and play where you can get bored of the cycle after playing for a bit, but then come back to it once something sparks your interest again. Which I would be doing, but honestly I'm juggling XPiratez and CK3 as my current fixation games.
"Oh my god, Rycluse isn't dead" He actually was, he just rolled a new character with even worse stats than before, somehow
my man getting ahead of the necromancy allegations early i see
Isn't that getting older?
Who's funeral did I go to?

Tactical Breach Wizards come to me
Wish granted

"Rogue-like-ish". I dont care somehow, Rogue is paying child support.

Also worth noting that his game Morphblade is amazing

Legit top tier game. I always go for the warzone missions. The panic when you see a missile is about to blow up the part of the ship you're standing in is amazing
Versus the relief of a missile hitting an enemy that was about to kill you
I'm really glad you included Asli Sixty in the video, she's a *great* representative for not only the inherent humor of the game but also the world-building, and she might honestly be my favorite NPC in the game!
@RowanAlexander310 Honestly some of my favorite writing Francis has done
I concur with this review. heat signature is a fantastic game if you love stealth and roguelikes.
stumbled across this channel today with your xcom: ufo defense video. Stayed for the fuckin' Rycluse.
Jammers do have counterplay, a long range crash beam can destroy one from outside the radius. i haven't tried the subverter yet but they might work too
Try the subverter... trust me
Heat Sig is a pretty fun game. Been playing it on and off for a year now. Pretty fun to just do a run or to when bored

You just completely changed how I play this game. I knew about the permanent Visitor trick, but this is just a whole other level of awesome.
WHAT
@@WoodledudePermanent visitor? Do tell

Rycluse continuing to validate my own taste in amazing video games!

One of the best intro trailers too.
Never seen a game explain its mechanics so well
The soundtrack for the game is also freaking good, "Quantum Immortality" in particular
1:59 Didn’t expect to hear Prime trailer music in a video about a 7yo game.
It came out while I was in the middle of editing and it was just too perfect
Just got this after a year or so on the wishlist. Good summary/review, and some banger tunes for BGM. You earned a sub.

YOOOO HEAT SIG!!!! I love this game so much, never heard anyone talking about it. Hell yeah
I remember playing this game ages ago and thinking it was great, glad to see that it is getting at least a tiny bit of coverage.
I got this game recently and must say, I love the breach grenade launchers
awesome, i see like zero people ever talk about this game
Heat Signature is a fantastic game. I have a ridiculous number of hours in it and still play it almost daily after having had it since about when it first came out. So looking forward to Tactical Breach Wizards...
you sir, have peaked my interest. i am amazed how the dev made so much out of so little
Absolutely love this game, got like 60 hours in it. Ghost characters are so damn satisfying in this game.
oh man its been years since i played this game, it is so fun.
Hey, thank you for sharing. I hadn't heard of this game, and now I'm looking into it, just because of you. Sharing something you like did make a tiny difference.

Such a great game, I should get back to doing the dailies.

7:18 - Screw those Bombing Chiron.
Phoenix Point for life! Terror from the Void is so damn good.
The algorithm did that thing where it deletes some of my channels I follow. So glad I found yours again.
I LOVE THE ALGORITHM 😃🔫
I remember watching ol' Nerd Cube play this game once. Looked fun then, looks fun here, and is good fun when I get into it :V
I remember really liking this game once I got a concussion hammer
never even knew gauss had a theme that goes so hard
It came out while I was making this video and yeah, it fucks

yes! This is one of my fav games of all time, you should check out the demo for Tactical Breach Wizards, also by Tom Francis and Co.
Good review. May I suggest 'Synthetik 1' and 'Ultrakill' (they don't have stealth, but the gunplay is peak)
hell yeah! Heat Sig rep in the year of our lord 2024

I love this channel
What a well done vid!
not a roguelike player but it does sound well done.
excellent video !
One of mime personal favorites games to me it kind reminds me of warframe in wired way how mission go.
Gunpoint is also a Funny game, the developer has a peculiar style 😂
Does heat signature work well with a controller? Ie. Would it be playable on a steam deck?
Controller, yes. Steam deck, probably not (at least Steam doesn't think so)
It works with a Steam controller, so the trackpads should be fine. No idea if it's proton compatible though
i play it on steamdeck and it works good :)
Also play Gunpoint!!! Made by the same dude, game is like an hour or two to beat but incredibly fun.
@@charleston_ I actually played Gunpoint first! It has a lot of the same qualities of humorous gameplay as Heat Signature
Fellow Hunter x Hunter enjoyer W
What game is this?
Heat Signature! The Steam link has been added to the description.
god i hate armour in this game.
sometimes it feels like a mission is impossible due to armour
huh, none of my comments seems to appears, wut ?
TH-cam hate us
