    Came back to this video a second time bc it was time to clean “my husbands ice maker” again (he can’t go without ice 😁) and I couldn’t quite remember the process!
    I wish these ice maker companies made the water/ice bucket in the back easier to clean or possible even remove. I ended up bending a straw cleaner to be able to slide back there to get the gunk behind the metal prongs, then I also shoot it with my homemade vinegar spray during the clean cycle.

    You can’t do a thorough job of cleaning the mildew inside the rotating (trough-like) water well without removing the back outer skin of the ice maker by removing screws on the bottom, popping off the skin, then unscrewing the top assembly. Then after you drain the unit of all water, plug the unit in and turn it on and let the trough rotate into an accessible position then pull the plug from the wall to stop it from reverting back to its inaccessible resting position. Now you have plenty of room to squeeze a microfiber rag in between the freeze rods and the trough. Vinegar or bleach run through the machine will not clean these parts fully. This is one of the reasons why this icemaker is inexpensive. It is not a great design.

    I like the video. I did not notice the clean feature on my Ice Maker, but my question is will it get rid of the squeaking noise when it fills that part that makes this ice; that's those rods?

    • @marshmallowcuriosity
      @marshmallowcuriosity  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching! As for the squeaky noise, it could be caused by hard water. I know of a person who used a descaling agent to clean the machine which helped remove a squeaky noise. I’d say give that a try and see if you have any success. I’ve also heard of people using distilled water because their water is hard and causes mineral deposit buildup that can result in the ice machine not working properly and making abnormal sounds. If you give the descaling agent a try., let me know how that works out for you! I haven’t ran into that issue, but it’s probably because I don’t use my ice maker constantly.

    • @agd29ifi
      @agd29ifi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marshmallowcuriosity Thank you for your response to my comment. I thought white vinegar (or cleaning vinegar) would be the solution. If it’s descaling, I looked at those online so are you referring to those that are used for coffee makers? Also that water I use is from one of those pitchers with a filter; specifically Brita. I would never use plain tap water especially with all that calcium. Once again thank’s for the reply.

    • @marshmallowcuriosity
      @marshmallowcuriosity  ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Thank you Lily for your question! I run it through two cycles. So I will fill the water up to the fill line and make ice until that water is gone. I will dump the ice and then fill it up again to the fill line and run it through a second time until all the water is gone. I will dump that ice also. After those two full cycles, I will then make ice that I will use. I have never had any ice that smelled or tasted like vinegar or lemon juice after two cycles. You are very welcome John! I recommend cleaning it once a month if you are using it regularly. If you store it away for a while, I recommend cleaning it before using it again. When you don’t have it running, it will be important that you dry the inside of it very well. Any leftover water will promote bacteria to grow. Thank you for your question and for watching my video!

      Hi Timothy! I recommend you trying a reset on your machine. First, unplug the unit for at least 30 seconds. Check the water tube screen (filter like component) inside the water reservoir. You can snap it out and make sure there isn’t anything blocking it. Rinse it and snap it back in place. Then fill with water up to the max line. Plug the unit back in and press the power button for 10 seconds to reset. Then turn on the unit to see if this has corrected your issue. Hope this helps! If not, then there may be a bigger issue with the machine.

      There is a white and black small sensors on the area where ice collects to shut off the cycle. I found that simply cleaning the gunk off of those sensors is all that is needed.

      Hi Gina! I am 100% sure! You can Google it and you will find plenty of sites where it speaks to cleaning an icemaker with lemon juice as an option. Just put into your Google search, “cleaning a portable icemaker with lemon juice.” Thank you for watching!

      Hello! You will use a quarter cup lemon juice to 8 cups of water. Thank you for your question!

    You're supposed to clean it at least once a month. And those metal bars that form the ice should be handled very carefully, if touched at all.

    On the clean cycle does it clean under/behind the little bucket inside that hold the water while it makes ice????? Had this bright idea to stick a Mr clean eraser under that lil water bucket and wa disgusted with how black it was.

    My ice maker which looks identical and is made by Frigidaire (it's the brushed aluminum one) has no "Clean" notation on the power button.
    I sprayed the trough with 91% IPA and have not used the ice directly in a beverage for a long time. (just for cooling cans and keeping things cold)
    It's probably a good idea to learn how to disassemble and clean this thing regardless of any cleaning function.
    If I have to get a new one bc I screw up the disassembly/reassembly process, I'm getting the red one. 🤔

      Just hold the power button for a few seconds until both small and large buttons alternate in flashing and it will do a clean cycle, i have the same brushed aluminum one

    How to clean the water basket when it’s making ice in the back of the coils

    • @marshmallowcuriosity
      @marshmallowcuriosity  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your question! To be clear, are you trying to clean the water reservoir while ice is being made? To clean the water reservoir, unplug your machine, empty ice and drain water completely. Wipe down the water reservoir with mild soap and rinse throughly with plug unplugged so the soapy water empties into the sink.
