Thank you for the interesting video! Now I hope my problem with spinning from the fold is solved. When I let the folded fiber rest on the finger, the twisted yarn is beginning to walk in the wrong direction, not perpendicular as needed but 180°. If the very fine yarn gets stuck on the bobbin, unvisible, adhesive tape will help to catch it.
This is a great video! I'm learning on a Kromski Sonata and have just finished my trial batches - ultra chunky, gross California Red that plied badly, a CVM that went pretty well, and a dyed CVM that I decided to use an actual method for (short draw, I believe). I'm currently using your from the fold video on my first attempt at alpaca, and so far I think it's been having the results I was hoping for - consistent, bouncy yarn with a light halo :) Thank you so much for posting!! Your voice and explanations were wonderful.
Liz Kimber oh yes that is my Lendrum Saxony wheel that I got just this past summer. And I don't know why but I have always spun with my right hand as my drafting/pinching hand and my left hand as my fiber supply hand. I am right-handed...
Im also right handed and spin this way, to me my right hand has a very important quality control, the lefts too stupid for that.. so I dont really see why we are considered left handed, to me my right hand is doing the work! Even in long draw most of the control and so on is controlled by my right hand.
Exactly! I feel the same way! The fingers on my right-hand do so much to control how much fiber to draft and how smooth it will be. Very interesting. And I am beyond thrilled that I found this wheel with the flyer on the right. Helps me spin in a more ergonomic way, for sure. Love it.
Oh thanks so much! I never realized I was a left-handed spinner until after I started. I'm actually right-handed... but I also snowboard and surf "backwards" (goofy) too. Interesting. Here's another view of the spinning wheel: facebook.com/SweetGeorgiaYarns/videos/10154677464762074/
Is your wheel set up for off-side sinning or is this some mirror image thing in the video? First decide if you want worsted, semi-worsted or true woolen spun yarn. I have winter socks that have no significant wear after ten years. Doing this for forty years I believe that proper prep means a lot less problems.
Oh thanks! I have my flyer on the right hand side of my saxony wheel. My right hand is my forward hand and I hold my fibre in my left hand, so this arrangement works for me. I know wheel makers can make flyers on either side, depending on how you spin. That’s awesome that you have such great, hard wearing handspun for winter socks! That’s what I like to spin for as well ☺️
Most gorgeous fiber I have EVER seen!
Thank you! Very clear and helpful. Also so excited to see that I have the same wheel as Felicia Lo.

Great demonstration

I only have castle wheels or right handed saxony wheels people tell me the left handed wheel will help but they seem rare and Id rather try one first
Awesome tutorial! Thank you.
Carrie Mtn thanks so much for watching!
Nice seeing a lefty can you show your spinning wheel
