I find it easier to draft this way than the "Short Forward Draw" .
Now I'm wondering if its because I've only spun Rolags on my eWheels. I have both the Nano 1.1 and the Nano 6.

Thank you! I have polymer clay at home and will try to a supported spindle! My first weekend after I learned to spinn I made a bottom spindle in the clay I had!
It is heavy, but I like it somehow!

I love watching your old videos about spinning! Question for you: are all yarns that are spun from rolags considered a woolen yarn? Also, do you prefer spinning with a double treadle or single treadle wheel?

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! I just started long draw spinning after creating some "fauxlags" from some recycled yarn scrap roving. I definitely don't think I'm adding enough twist since my yarn is falling apart as I'm spinning! (That and I stopped for the night after having it fray apart and suck onto my bobbin...now today I can't find the end! What I thought was the end was actually a break I made while searching...ARGH) So more experimenting is needed, I guess. I mean practice. Yeah. Practice, not experimenting lol

Yes, I will have more long draw coming up in the next couple months. My best suggestion if your yarn is falling apart is to add more twist so I think you will get it! Just keep spinning! ❤

Can I spin woolen yarn from roving?
I am a total beginner but wanted to know if "woolen" is similar to a lettlopi type yarn?
thanks for the explanation. I'm still struggling with the twist I'm afraid. (I'm to scared at the moment for plying... because I got so many parts with very thin yarn and/or to much twist or not enough twist, I'm afraid.)
But I have one question: Sometimes my yarn feels like gum when I draft back. Is that to much twist, not enough twist or what is it?
It might be the feeling of superwash maybe?
What is the longest fibre that can be successfully carded into a rolag? I have some Corriedale top that I would like to make into a woollen prep.
I would say 2 and a half inch as I've struggled with longer but I suppose it depends on your skills I'm new to it all so you could maybe do longer staple length x
Sadie is right that the 2 1/2 to 3 inch staple length is supposed to be the carding sweet spot. There are some other things that can make a difference too. If you roll your rolags up very tight, the longer stapled fibers will mess them up as they draft out, but if you leave the rolag lofty and with a wider diameter, you can use longer stapled fibers. It can also depend on the tpi of your hand cards. I think 4 inches (10 cm) was about the longest staple I have managed to card well. Practice and experience can also make a difference so maybe I just need more practice! :)
Does the fibers have to be longer to use long draw?
I may be wrong but my impression is No. See, for example, Evie's answer to @sharonwaddell2548's question.
Again, as I understand it, cotton is generally spun with a long draw technique and cotton generally has a very short staple.
