Great video. Sixty years ago there were not so many trees obscuring the view. It must be worse in summer with all the leaves. Never the less a most enjoyable trip! Many thanks Rmb
Took this trip both ways in June 1990 after arriving Ft William on Sleeper train from Euston. Had a 2 week BritRail Pass 1st class. I went all the way to Thurso by train also. I've been to all 3 Perths in the world (there is one in Ontario Canada )
Having just added this comment I then went and found that ScotRail have issued a speeded up version using this very film to show the route in two and a half minutes, complete with a soundtrack!
I recently went on that line its very beautiful indeed , i watched about a Geoff Marshall Video about the 2 request stops ones , Lochheilside and Lochailort
Don Coffey and Ben Elias have set a prodigiously high standard for this type of video. Whilst this one and others show how much they fall down by not offering sound and information about the journey and it's waypoints. Much improvement needed !
Yes, this is probably the most beautiful train trip in the world, but this video does it very little justice. To have to sit in silence through the hour and twenty minutes run is not particularly enjoyable. There are other video makers about who have learned that the journeys from the driver's view point have been inordinately enhanced by having an audio soundtrack of some sort, usually a description of the route and some of the fascinating history that goes with it. Some also have the enhancement of film cut in at appropriate points, of the train as it passes by, from trackside viewpoints, even at a distance. ScotRail could considerably improve these productions by including some audio descriptions, such as; what are the names of the tunnels along the route, which loch we are passing etc. I would also suggest that the view we see has been impaired by the sighting of the camera so that the left hand side is considerably reduced. Sorry to be so negative, but there are so many ways in which this could be enhanced and improve the number viewers and subscribers.
The Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver B.C. to Banff and Jasper AB is OK too. If you like massive mountains, huge glaciers, spectacular waterfalls, raging rivers, alpine forests, wildlife, etc, etc:that sort of thing.
Is it possible to get a sound version would love to here the RETB radio apart from that great video love this route still haven't had the chance to ride this route
@@ScotRail it would be anazing to have the sound on hear the jointed tracks 😍 can you not take sound out when driver talks to the signaler crew? I got this lovely line on train sim its amazing. Thanks for making the time to post those vids up during this hard upsetting times.
Lovely route thanks for the video. Some feedback if I may. A little bit of sound would be preferable, and the camera so that we can see the whole majestic panorama. The use of 4k a bonus. Thanks
I just have to add that back in 1985 BR's Scotrail division did a much better version of this route. it shown it in all its glory and is complete with a very informative soundtrack which includes the history of the line and has a much clearer view in much better weather, despite as we are told, 1985 being a very wet year!
You could have chosen a better day and a better time of the year to film this, I barely recognise it as the route I took, no audio is rediculous, and under the circumstances, describing it as " Most Beautiful on Earth" is click bait in the extreme. Very poor.
There’s no sound of the train with the window open. A lot of train enthusiasts like to hear the sound of the train itself; and also the rail track noise and sound of the train horn. There’s no point otherwise. Scotland 🏴 is a lovely place to travel; as well as Ireland 🇮🇪 Sunday afternoon at 15:17H. 10th October 2021. U.K. Southampton.
Nice video, totally ruined for me due to there not being any sound and a cab pillar blocking a quarter of the screen. In summary: good, but could do better.
Yes it is a beautiful trip BUT it's far from being the MOST beautiful trip. The Glacier Express, The Bernina Express and the Rocky Mountaineer would in my opinion far exceed for amazing scenery
Videos really need sound, even if only the train warning buzzers and the track. Seems a little, out of this world, watching in silence. The sound on my TV, sound box turns itself off, because there's no sound. Otherwise, love to watch.
Hyperbole about 'the most beautiful on earth'! but I love these videos for pretending I'm the driver! Gets more interesting later on, the viaducts and tunnels needed, and the landscape opening up...
Yes it's hype all right. It's a very attractive line from Loch Eil Outward Bound onwards and we miss the view from the Glenfinnan Viaduct, the highlight of the journey, but it is definitely not the most beautiful journey in the world, unless you're a Scottish Nationalist. The Oslo to Bergen line is more beautiful as are several in the Alps or those going through the Rhine gorge. And other videos in the drivers cab on here have sound so it's ridiculous not to have any here.
The MOST BEAUTIFUL train trip on earth! Fort William to Mallaig from the driver's seat in full Is the above statement true? Absolutely not!! Sadly, I gave this the thumbs down, which I have never done before in all my years of watching TH-cam articles of various types. I feel it only right to explain my honest feelings for that action. I was born in Aberdeen and spent a wonderful childhood exploring the countryside of Aberdeenshire and some of the south/west and in between. Twice made the steam train ride Fort William/Mallaig with school age daughters and then also later with grandchild. At approx. 20min’s into the journey I stopped the video (this was after speeding the viewing speed up through boredom) I emailed family members with my honest feelings about this video. Quote. “I'm on a virtual train journey from Fort William to Malaig, listed as... The MOST BEAUTIFUL train trip on earth! Fort William to Mallaig from the driver's seat.” And I have to say for the first 20 min's so far it has been "AFFA DOUR", currently at Glenfinnan station having navigated the "GLENFINNAN VIADUCT". I had to lift the speed up very early into the journey to 1.75 x normal speed as I was getting a wee bit sleepy. Unfortunately a badly positioned camera gets what should have been panoramic views but are not because they are blocked by the cab window frame to the left of the viewing area and hardly any colours in the landscape other than "DRAB" Hang on, were leaving the station! I continued to watch the remainder with as much disappointment as the previous part of the journey Firstly pick a brighter day, possibly when trees etc. are breaking bud to add a bit of colour. Second, reposition the camera with no obstacles to the viewing lense parameters. Thirdly as others have commented, add a little commentary. IE, when was the line opened/passenger journeys per day/week/year. History of the engines/ how long to construct the line/build the viaduct/amount of bricks/stone/cement etc. Any deaths during construction? I am sure there are many interesting questions/information that could be answered/included through some accompanying dialogue. If the budget allows, shadow the train by helicopter and camera and justify the title statement. My honest opinion.
Hello, thanks for your constructive feedback. As I shot and edited this film, I think I'm best placed to reply to this. First of all, with very few exceptions, we don't include sound in videos taken from the cab as it's a working environment and to do so could pose a distraction to staff. It's for the same reason that the footage has been shot from the right hand side of the cab - anything obstructing the driver's view is simply unacceptable from a safety point of view. The object that you see to the left of the window is not the window frame but the corridor connection that protrudes from the front of the train - there's not much we can do about that, I'm afraid. Secondly, the weather was rubbish that day - you're right. Sadly, the filming was all arranged in advance and we really can't justify a further journey during a pandemic to remedy this. As for helicopter views and commentary, unfortunately our budget wouldn't cover these. It sounds like you might prefer the time lapse version of the journey that we made, which covers the full distance in under three minutes, rather than this one which shows the trip in real time: th-cam.com/video/ZhHso1r07kg/w-d-xo.html Hopefully you'll still enjoy our future videos, ^Angus
@@ScotRail When you say that audio recording can be a distraction, this can only be if the driver feels some pressure to behave differently from normal, such as being careful not to swear, or mentioning confidential operational information on the radio. You could record the soundtrack from somewhere in the front carriage behind the driver to avoid that danger?
The MOST BEAUTIFUL train trip on earth... not as filmed. Wrong time in the year. And no sound... even crappy music is better than a silent movie! This gives a rating for this film of about 3 on a scale of 1 to 10.
Thumbs DOWN, Scotrail!! I agree with Oris1949. Surely, in this, the 21st century, you could dub in the sound of the train on the rails (hey - Mouldy Raspberry can do it for a model railway), music, a commentary at times, a bit of history, and edit out the long stops at stations.
@@ScotRail Sorry to hear that, Angus. I'll leave that problem in your capable hands. Having embarked on the project of advertising your product (ScotRail, via TH-cam videos of your network) it no doubt behooves your organisation to look after your prospective customers in a similar manner to how you care for your day-to-day customers. All the best, and cheers from Australia.

Wonderful video. Scotland is such a amazing country to visit and explore. And the railways in Scotland that has history. Beautiful. 💙🏴
Did this trip many times in the early 80s. Got off at Lochailort then Tom the bus would take me home to Glenuig.

Can we have a route on either the argyle line or north Clyde line?
Soon! ^CT
@@ScotRail thanks! Also can you try film it on a 318 since those are my favourite trains?
Beautiful video, but if you can you should do it again in spring or summer, when the leaves and meadows are green, or fall wirh coloured leaves.
It would be stunning if weather condition much better.
Inverness to Kyle is my favourite, the Malliag line for me is a little too short
Would prefer audio as it adds to the ambience of the video. And the wiper would not go amiss either.
